Tamberino hits home run in series loss to Wilson Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Stevenson baseball (3-6) got their spring break underway with a doubleheader against the Wilson College Phoenix (6-0) on Sunday afternoon. The first game was played to six innings due to weather with a final 15-0 score for the Phoenix, and the second game played to seven with a final 8-6 score in the Phoenix's' favor.
 
Game One
In the loss, the Mustangs totaled two hits in the opening game, with senior first baseman Nick Tamberino singling to right field in the top of the first. First-year infield Connor Wilkerson also singled to left field in the top of the third.
 
The Mustangs totaled two walks with six left on base in the first game. On pitching, five Mustangs combined their efforts, with sophomore Brendan Phillips striking out three on two hits, four runs, and five errors. First-year Chris Fortunato also struck out three for 2.1 innings pitched.
 
Game Two
The Mustangs managed six runs in the second game and held a consistent lead until the fourth inning. Junior outfielder Zack Majeski and junior pitcher/outfield Dalton Reinhart managed two runs each with Tamberino and sophomore outfielder Graham Sears picking up one.
 
The first three runs arrived quickly in the top of the first thanks to four walks accumulated by the Mustangs. Tamberino homered to right center in the top of the second, securing two more runs.
 
The Phoenix took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a double, allowing three to return home. The sixth and final run for the Mustangs arrived in the top of the fifth when Jaylon Surell grounded out on a sacrifice bunt, allowing Christopher Manco to advance and Reinhart to return home.
 
The Mustangs totaled six hits, six walks, and five RBI with eight left on base. Tamberino added two RBI. Four Mustangs combined efforts on the mound with senior Kyle Pellegrino and Reinhart striking out one each. Pellegrino pitched three walks, three hits, and two errors in the loss.
 
UP NEXT
The Mustangs will travel to Juniata College on Tuesday, March 12 for a 3 p.m. game before continuing their spring break at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday.
