CHAMPS! Ithaca Walks-Off Again to Top Rochester, 7-6, in Liberty League Title Game

TROY, N.Y. – For the third straight game in the Liberty League Tournament, the Ithaca College baseball team won on a walk-off and for the third consecutive season, the Bombers are Liberty League champions as IC defeated Rochester, 7-6, at RPI on Saturday. Ithaca is now 31-9 on the season and will take a 12-game winning streak into the NCAA Division III Championship.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Ethan Rothstein was named the Most Outstanding Player, as he went 7-for-15 in three games with three RBI, but more importantly, he delivered game-winning hits in the 3-2 win over Rochester in 13 innings on Friday and again on Saturday in the title matchup.

The Bombers went ahead, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning as Colin Shashaty led off with a walk and then moved over to third on a wild pitch and groundout. Shashaty would score on another wild pitch three batters later.

Rochester tied the game at 1-1 in the third on a wild pitch and throwing error, but the Bombers retook the lead in the bottom half, 2-1, as Camden Laney scored on a fielding error.

IC extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run home run by Laney with Shashaty and Louis Fabbo on base. Laney went just 1-for-1 in the game but reached base in all five plate appearances with three walks and a hit by pitch.

The Yellowjackets turned in on offensively over the next two innings and scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. In the fifth, UR strung together three straight hits to bring in two runs and then another IC error allowed another run to score. Rochester tied the game in the sixth as a lead off base hit moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single. After a fly out, the Yellowjackets went ahead on an RBI double.

The Bombers struggled at the plate in their next three at bats and only put one runner on but found life in the ninth inning.

After an out was recorded, Laney reached on a hit by pitch and Ethan McDonough followed with a single. The second out would be recorded on a fielder's choice, but Ethan Daddabbo earned a walk to load the bases. Rochester made a pitching change and Rothstein ripped a single to left on the first pitch to plate Colin Dunn and Luca Pipia to win the game.

Jack Colyer, who hasn't appeared in a game in more than a month, tossed three hitless innings in relief to pick up the win. Danny Drotos started on the mound for the Bombers and went 5.0 innings with two strikeouts and allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits. Dan Allard also threw an inning of relief.

The NCAA Selection Show will take place at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 13.
