Waynesburg downs Vermont State Lyndon in Florida

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 3) – The Waynesburg University baseball team cruised to a 13-1 victory over Vermont State Lyndon on the second day of the Yellow Jackets' spring break trip in Florida on Monday.

Waynesburg moves to 2-3 on the season while Lyndon falls to 1-5. Lyndon was playing in its final game in its six-game Florida slate.

Waynesburg scored in each of the first six innings, including a six-run second inning. Starting pitcher Gavin Pratt set a career-high with 11 strikeouts and allowed one earned run on three hits.

Aidan Williams (Shaler, Pa. / Shaler) went 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, a walk and an RBI. Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) drove in three runs. Seth Burgdolt (Taylorstown, Pa. / McGuffey) doubled and scored three times while Danny Flynn (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) and Alek Wagor (Manhattan, N.Y. / Cairo-Durham) each scored twice.

Ryan Opfer (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) allowed just one baserunner in two innings of relief. Aiden Adamson (Carmichaels, Pa. / Carmichaels Area) struck out two in a scoreless ninth.

Waynesburg knocked 11 hits and drew 10 walks in the ballgame.

The Jackets take on Capital for a doubleheader in Vero Beach tomorrow with first pitch slated for 10 a.m.
