Haverford stays undefeated

Mike Tentilucci's single gave the Fords their seventh win without a loss, three shy of the program's 10-game unbeaten string at the beginning of the 2011.

Haverford's George Hatamiya led the top of the 10th inning off with single and came around to score the game-winning run on Mike Tentilucci's two-out single to keep Haverford undefeated in a 10 inning, 4-3 win over St. Joseph's (L.I.).

Wartburg and St. Olaf split a Wednesday night doubleheader in the Metrodome. The Oles took the first game 5-4 in 10 innings and the Knights won the later nightcap, 6-4. St. Olaf got an RBI single from Jake Schmiesing and a run-scoring groundout from Adam Johnson in the 10th. They needed the insurance run when Wartburg's comeback fell a run short. In the second game, St. Olaf took the early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Orange and Black stormed back with five runs in the third and a lead they would keep. Ryan Doty picked up his second win on the mound this season and also was the team's leading hitter as he went 3-4 with two runs scored.

Zack Graczyk went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored as top-ranked Cortland held off Franklin & Marshall, 9-8, in a non-league game. The Red Dragons improve to 9-2 overall and are 7-0 this season versus "in-region" opponents. Max Rosing finished 2-for-3 with a double, walk and four RBI and Brian Barry was 2-for-4 with a homer, walk and two RBI for the Red Dragons.

No. 3 Wheaton (Mass.) lost to Denison, 12-4, in a non-conference matchup. Big Red right-handed pitcher Ian Walsh earned his first-career collegiate win in his first-ever start. He allowed four runs on six hits in 6.1 innings.  Junior Connor Murphy shut out the Lyons for the rest of the contest allowing two hits. He walked three and struckout five.

Senior Sean Conroy threw a complete game and received 10 hits in support, as RPI won its third straight, 6-1 over Curry. Over nine innings of work, Conroy allowed an earned run on just three hits. He struck out nine and walked one.

Mike Grindstaff tallied 16 strikeouts and Ryan Mosby drove in two runs as the Spalding Golden Eagles beat Rhodes 2-1. Mike Grindstaff got the win, allowing one run, one earned, on four hits and striking out 16 in a complete game effort. Ryan Mosby was 1 for 3 with a single, and two RBI’s.

Lakeland used a late-inning rally to down Defiance 3-2. The Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the top of the seventh. Lakeland battled back to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning and plated another run in the eighth to grab the lead. The Muskie pitching staff shut down the Defiance bats in the top of the ninth to steal a one-run victory.

Keystone closed out their Spring Break trip with an exciting, 4-3 victory over Messiah. Mike Meszoros turned in a fine start for Keystone, going eight innings total, including seven scoreless, to put the Giants in a position to win the game. With the score tied in the top of the ninth inning, Rick McLaughlin reached on a base hit and was pinch run for by Kevin Catherina. Catherina then stole second before Lymbel Guerrero drove him home with the go ahead run with an RBI single and Keystone’s pitching staff made the lead stand.

Colby-Sawyer split a doubleheader with SUNYIT at the Lake Myrtle baseball complex. Colby-Sawyer won the first game 14-0, while SUNYIT took the second 9-4. Kevin Keith earned his second win of the season after tossing six shutout innings. He had seven strikeouts, no walks and surrendered just five hits. Steve Schack pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Daniel Wiesek earned the win for the Wildcats in game two. He went the full seven innings and gave up four runs on six hits.

Junior pitcher Joe Lovizio earned the 2013 season's first shutout for Vassar as the Brewers scored five runs in the first and five runs in the ninth for a 10-0 win over Cairn. Lovizio went six innings today, retiring eight batters and only giving up four hits. Senior Max Frankel pitched one inning with one strikeout while Lawrence Flicker finished the last two innings, sitting three.

Mount Union had a 10-run third inning and ended up pounding out 23 hits in a 25-8 rout of Washington (Md.). The 25 runs in a single game are the most since MOunt Union's 28-6 win over Bradford (Mass.) on March 9, 1999. Every starter had a hit and eight of the nine starters drove in at least one run. Sophomore Anthony Morino led the charge as he had three hits, two doubles, and drove in six runs.

Baldwin Wallace defeated Wheaton (Ill.), 13-9 on the fifth day of its annual Spring Break trip at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. This was the Yellow Jackets' second win in a row. At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by Zach Ferster as he had three hits, including one double, three runs scored, two runs batted in, and one walk. In addition, Kyle Chontos had two doubles, three RBI, two runs scored and three walks.

Senior Jake Coleman had three hits in the first game and one in hit in the night cap leading Brockport to a pair of thrilling extra-inning victories over Clarkson. The Golden Eagles came from behind to post a 7-5 win in the opener in 11 innings of the scheduled seven-inning game and then posted a 4-3 win in eight innings in game two.

Ithaca slugged 20 hits and scored 15 runs in a 15-2 win over 18th-ranked Bridgewater (Va.) in a neutral-site game in California. The Bomber victory snapped a four-game skid and lifted Ithaca to 5-4 on the season. Bridgewater is 10-4.
