Championship games firmed up on Friday

Playing in their 11th game in a six-day span, Augsburg rallied from a 4-0, third-inning deficit to tie the game at 4-4, then won the game in extra innings, a 5-4, 11-inning victory over St. Mary's (Minn.) in a MIAC Playoff quarterfinal contest on Friday evening at Veterans Field.

Bethel also advanced with a 4-2 win over Saint John's behind a big early rally and stellar pitching from star Matt Rowley, who went the distance in the win. The Royals hung on after SJU scored two late, and got the tying run to the plate twice in the ninth inning. The milestone win was the first-ever postseason victory in the history of Bethel's program.

Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan won their CCIW postseason tournament openers and the Vikings moved to the Championship game with a 2-1 win over the Titans. Illinois Wesleyan will play North Park to see who will play Augustana. North Park eliminated Wheaton (Ill.), 3-2, earlier.

Top-seeded Washington & Jefferson secured a spot in the championship round of the 2013 PAC Baseball Tournament by downing third-seeded Thomas More 10-1 at Ross Memorial Park. As a team, the Presidents tied an NCAA Division III single-game record with five sacrifice flies, accomplished twice previously in history, most recently by Rutgers-Camden versus Lincoln on April 9, 2002.

St. Norbert scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and let the pitching do the rest as they moved on to play Ripon in the winners bracket after a 7-0 shutout victory over Knox in the second game of the 2013 MWC Baseball Championship.

St. Scholastica earned a trip to the UMAC Tournament Championship game by defeating Martin Luther 10-0 in the first game of the day and then held off Northwestern 6-4 in the semifinal contest to advance to tomorrow's Championship game at Wade Stadium.

Southern Maine pounded out 25 hits en route to a 22-9 victory over Eastern Connecticut State. The win moves the Huskies into the championship round of the tournament against an opponent to be determined.  Eastern Connecticut will play the winner of the game between UMass Dartmouth and UMass Boston. The UMD-UMB game was halted in the eighth inning due to darkness and will be resumed Saturday morning with Mass-Dartmouth leading UMass-Boston 20-5.

Mount Union junior Jeff Bennett hit a pinch hit three-run walk off home run as Mount Union shocked Otterbein, 4-2 in the semifinals of the OAC Baseball Tournament at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta, Ohio. It was Bennett's first home run of the season and it sends Mount Union into Saturday's championship game for the first time since 2002. The Purple Raiders, who won their only tournament title in 1970, are in the title game for the fourth time in school history. Rain delayed the rest of the schedule with the John Carroll and marietta game pushed to Saturday.

Montclair State used a four-run seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 victory over 11th ranked Keystone, snapping the Giants 14-game win streak.  The Red Hawks improve to 16-18-1 on the season with the upset win while Keystone will take a 33-8 overall mark into NCAA Regional play beginning next week.

The Northern Athletics Conference tournament's top two seeds, Concordia (Ill.) and Benedictine, both won their second games of the tournament and six-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran pulled a pair of upsets at Kapco Field to advance to the round of three on Saturday. In the day's opening game, Concordia Chicago jumped out to a 7-2 lead and survived a ninth-inning scare from the Regents, who scored once and loaded the bases in their final at bat, for the 7-5 final. In game two Wisconsin Lutheran bounced host Concordia (Wisc.) from the double-elimination event by scoring three runs over the final two innings for the 5-2 victory. Benedictine shut out Aurora, 5-0, to match the school record for wins in a season. In the fourth and final game of the day Wisconsin Lutheran staved off elimination for the second time as the Warriors defeated third-seeded Aurora, 5-1.

Senior Sean Conroy earned the win on the mound for the RPI Engineers, pitching a complete game, allowing eight hits and one earned run, while striking out four in nine innings of work, as RPI defeated Union, 8-1. With the win, the Engineers will face Union in the championship on Saturday Union booted Vassar College out of its first ever Liberty League tournament with a 6-1 win at Siena Field. Earlier in the day, the Brewers advanced through the loser's bracket with an 8-6 win over third-seeded St. Lawrence. Vassar finished the 2013 season with its second-highest win total in program history.

Penn State Behrend defeated Mount Aloysius 11-2 in the AMCC Tournament. With the win, the Lions will now play for the AMCC Championship on Saturday. Behrend will play the winner of La Roche and Mount Aloysius game. The Redhawks and Mounties elimination game was suspended in the top of the seventh due to inclement weather with La Roche leading, 10-1 and will be finished Saturday morning.

Merchant Marine will now face Purchase in the semifinals of the ECAC Metro Championships.

Merchant Marine defeated Old Westbury, 6-3, in the ECAC Metro Region quarterfinals at Lower Roosevelt Field. Hunter Titus paced the Mariners with two RBI, two runs scored, and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Kyle Clausen picked up the victory on the mound with six strong innings.

Freshman Kendall Helbert delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double in the seventh inning that lifted No. 3 seed MIT to a 6-4 victory over No. 6 seed Mitchell in a first round game in the 2013 ECAC Division III New England Baseball Championship. The victory was also the 25th win of the season for the Engineers as they tied the school record for victories in a season. MIT will go on to play Elms in a semifinal game tomorrow.

Kean cruised to a doubleheader sweep of Farmingdale State in the regular season finale by the finals of 2-0 and 18-3 at Jim Hynes Stadium. The #9/11 Cougars finish the regular season with a 34-10 overall record and will now await the NCAA Tournament announcement on late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.  Kean is currently ranked #1 in the recent Mid-Atlantic regional ranking.
