St. Louis- Fontbonne University right-handed senior Jacob Becker (Steelville, Mo./Steelville) threw a no-hitter to open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Principia College today. Becker is only the third Griffin to achieve a no-hitter in Fontbonne baseball history, all of which have occurred since April 2010. The 6-0 win was the first shutout of the 2014 season for Fontbonne.
Becker threw six strikeouts while facing 24 hitters with zero walks in his seven innings of work, which included one hit-by-pitch. Becker has a 4-0 record this season, while starting five games.
Defensively the Griffins committed three errors, but managed to get out of the inning each time. Fontbonne's offense included eight hits, three doubles, three steals and two sacrifice flies.
