Top teams find success on Wednesday

Anthony LoBello and two relievers combined on a six-hit shutout to lead No. 25 Misericordia to a 9-0 win over Lebanon Valley, Wednesday in Fort Pierce, Florida. LoBello struck out two and allowed three hits over six innings to earn his first career victory. Dillon DelRosso worked two shutout innings and Shane McGraw pitched a scoreless ninth.

No. 14 Concordia-Chicago had the best of everything in the third game of the eight-game season-opening road trip to Tucson, Arizona. A 19-hit attack and solid defense backed the collegiate debut outing of lefthander Cody Caballero, and it all added up to an 11-2 victory over Indiana Wesleyan at the Kino Sports Complex.

Farmingdale State scored four unearned runs and defeated the Merchant Marine Mariners, 6-1, at Baseball Heaven. Alex Weingarten earned the win on the mound with three innings of relief, striking out three batters. He relieved Michael Dolce who allowed two base runners in his four innings of work.

St. John's cranked out 22 hits and 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Northland, 12-4 and 9-1, in Fort Myers, Fla. St. John's batted .444 (12-for-27) with runners in scoring position and .435 (10-for-23) with two outs in the doubleheader.

The St. John Fisher Cardinals used a nine-run fourth and five-run fifth inning to defeat Rose-Hulman 15-2 in Lake Myrtle at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Through the first five games of the season, Fisher's starting pitchers have now combined for 25 innings pitched, allowing just one unearned run, five hits, and 31 strikeouts.

Heidelberg met up with a familiar foe as the Student Princes squared off with the Adrian Bulldogs. The two teams have a spirited non-conference rivalry over the years which started with the Bulldogs winning the 2008 NCAA Mideast Regional in comeback fashion. Since that game however the Student Princes have certainly used that as motivation owning a 7-3 edge in the series including an 11-5 win in Florida today.

Thiel registered a season-high 14 hits, slugging their way past the Wilmington Quakers 8-4 at Terry Park. Four Tomcats finished with at least two base hit, including Dan Koller and Trent Smith. Koller went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in while Smith was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and one driven in. It is the third double-digit hit total for Thiel's offense this season.

Eric Soranno earned the second straight win by a freshman in Susquehanna's 3-2 win over La Roche.

Susquehanna defeated La Roche 3-2 for the Crusaders’ fourth-consecutive win after dropping their first three contests to begin the season. Freshman Eric Soranno got his first career start and threw a solid game against the Redhawks. The right hander lasted six innings, scattering only four hits, allowing one run while striking out five.

Dominican got its fourth quality start in as many games in 2014, as Chance Emlund scattered two hits over six innings in the Stars' 12-0 shutout win over the Emerson College Lions in Fort Myers, Fla.

Seven different Majors scored as Millsaps used a balanced attack in an 8-3 win over the Mississippi College Choctaws on the road.  The Majors also got RBIs from five different players and four pitchers combined on a six-hitter as the Majors picked up their eighth win of the season against five defeats.

Southpaw Dan Hansen tossed six innings of two hit ball to earn his first win of the season as Kean topped Eastern Connecticut State, 4-1. Hansen allowed just one unearned run with six strikeouts and no walks to help the #5 Cougars improve to 6-1 on the year. 

Averett ended its four-game skid with a 5-2 victory over Roanoke at Owen-Fulton Field. Timothy Coston earned the win on the mound for Averett, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks in six innings of work. T.J. Viracola pitched two scoreless innings and senior Cody Beaver finished off the ninth inning out of the bullpen.

Down a run late, Emory had the game-tying run at third base in each of the eighth and ninth innings, but could not plate the equalizer in a 7-6 loss at cross town opponent Oglethorpe. The loss put an end to a three-game winning streak for the Eagles.

Schreiner , led by some young arms, ended the first half of the 2014 season in style with a sweep of Cardinal Stritch , 7-4 and 2-1.  The Mountaineers have now won three in a row and are 9-11 overall entering SCAC play this weekend at Southwestern.
