Teams get back on the field after off day

Gaston Rojas went 6-7 with four RBIs while scoring seven runs on the day to lift Keystone to doubleheader sweep of Cairn in CSAC action at Christy Mathewson Field. The senior outfielder tied a school record for runs in a doubleheader while his six hits tied for second most in a twin bill in program history as the Giants pushed their winning streak to nine games with a 12-4 win in Monday's opener before the hosts rallied for a 15-9 win in the nightcap. 

Oneonta State and Fredonia State finally got a chance to play its three-game series today, as the weather forced a suspension of game one and a postponement of a two game set back on Mar. 29. The two squads squared off at Houghton and Oneonta came away with a pair of wins to win the series while staying in the playoff picture in the SUNYAC.  Oneonta won game one, 6-0, which was the completion of the suspended game, which was in the bottom of the seventh inning when the game was halted.  The Red Dragons came back and won game 2, 5-3, before falling in the series finale 1-0.

Matt Temrowski yielded two hits over seven shutout innings and Tony Cappelletty produced a career-high three runs batted in to lead Albion to an 11-1 victory over local rival Spring Arbor in non-conference action. Albion, winners of four of its last five, take on Olivet Sunday.

Freshman Alex Quant had paced a potent Highlander offense in a 10-8 extra-inning win over Millikin in Decatur. Quandt went 5-for-6 at the plate with a double and three RBI in the win.  Freshman lead-off man Raustin Zahradka added a 4-for-6 day, scoring three runs.

Jed Robinson and David O'Brien combined on a six-hitter to lead the Trinity (Conn.) Bantams to a 4-2 victory over visiting Western Connecticut State. Robinson went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and four K's, before yielding to O'Brien who allowed just a ninth-inning single over two frames to collect the save.

Tim Ingram's fifth win was also his third complete game outing of the season.

Old Westbury picked up a 3-1 Skyline Conference win at home over the visiting St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Panther starter Tim Ingram bulldogged his way to his fifth win of the season with an 11 strikeout performance.

Westfield State rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Salem State, 2-1, and earn a doubleheader split in MASCAC action. In the Vikings' 4-0 victory in the opener, Mike Richardson tossed a six-hit shutout.

On April 12 the Concordia (Wisc.) dropped its fifth straight game before it was set to open a 10-game homestand. The homestand was just what the Falcons needed as they ran their winning streak to seven games with a NACC sweep of Marian, winning by scores of 4-3 and 11-7 at Kapco Park.

La Roche extended their win-streak to double digits and with a 21-4 victory over Waynesburg. The Red Hawks also ran their 15+ run streak to a school record ten consecutive games. Matt Sabatini went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI, a run, and a pair of doubles while Colin Feikles homered, hit in 3, and scored.

Paul Phillips went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs and Covenant broke an 8-8 tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 12-8 win over Tennessee Temple.

Bates doubled up on Endicott, take the Patriots Day game 8-4 on North Field. The Bobcats got off to a hot start in the early innings, scoring one run in the top of the first and five in the second en route to their non-conference victory over the Gulls. Bates was led offensively by junior left fielder Rockwell Jackson who out of the leadoff spot went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Wartburg swept the final doubleheader of the IIAC series against Loras. The Knights claimed the opener, 2-0 and won the final game 11-1 in seven innings. Senior Michael Schinstock earned his fourth win of the season on the mound as he pitched the complete game and struck out four in game one. In the second game, the Orange and Black jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first cruising to the series sweep.

Brandon Bergstrom had three hits, including a key three-run double, to lead the Penn State Behrend Lions past Houghton 6-5 at the Behrend Diamond. Andrew Quiggle earned his first career win after coming on in relief. The junior struck out four in 2.2 innings of work.

he Springfield College baseball team picked up a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win on Thursday, beating visiting Emerson, 12-2 on Berry-Allen Field.

Springfield was led by the bats of Keith Cotnoir (Westhampton, Mass.), Jared Hopkins (Cranston, R.I.) and Shane O'Leary (Kings Park, N.Y.) in the win. Cotnoir drove in three runs while Hopkins and O'Leary drove in two each. Frank Calabrese (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Steve Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) each tallied two hits.

Tyler Kelly (Absecon, N.J.) earned the win on the mound in his first collegiate start for the Pride. Kelly went five innings, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out four.
