No. 2 UW-Whitewater split with UW-Platteville on Sunday. The Warhawks took game one 8-3 but fell to the Pioneers 4-3 in 12 innings.
Stockton pounded out 23 hits and received solid pitching and timely defense, as the Ospreys swept a doubleheader from No. 1 Ramapo by scores of 7-2 and 4-1. Matt Poinsett topped the Ospreys with six hits on the day and scored three times. The Roadrunners finished the weekend 1-3 in NJAC contests, splitting with Rutgers Camden on Saturday.
Cortland scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 10-0 lead and the Red Dragons defeated Plattsburgh State, 14-3, to complete a three-game weekend sweep of the visiting Cardinals. Next up for the Red Dragons is a makeup game at SUNY Oneonta before Cortland and Oswego State square off next weekend.
Freshman Jeffrey Butler walked and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth as sixth-ranked Randolph-Macon edged Roanoke 4-3 on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets won in their final at-bat for the ninth time this season. R-MC tied the program record for victories in a season with 26, set in 2015. The Yellow Jackets have won six straight and moved into a first-place tie in the ODAC with seventh-ranked Shenandoah and Washington & Lee.
Jeremy Druffel singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as No. 10 Whitworth overcame an early deficit for a 3-2 victory at Willamette and earned the outright Northwest Conference regular season title. Whitworth took a series win from Willamette and finished the regular season atop the NWC standings, two games ahead of second-place Pacific Lutheran. The Pirates earned their first NWC regular season title since 2012, and first ever outright regular season title since joining the NCAA Division III. Whitworth will host the NWC Tournament at Merkel Field next weekend.
A day after Frostburg swept St. Mary's (MD) to earn the CAC regular season title, the Bobcats celebrated with their 10th non-confernce win. The latest victim of the Bobcats was Hood as they smacked three home runs on the afternoon, two of them gland slams, to rally past Hood 11-9.
Nolan Watson was solid on the mound, Jamie Cooper hit a two-run home run and the game was never in question as No 17 Occidental beat Puget Sound 6-2, completing a sweep against the Loggers. Today's win gives Oxy 26 on the year, tying the most in head coach Luke Wetmore's tenure as the Tigers eye surpassing the program's all time single season wins record of 32 set in 1967. After the results of this weekend's conference games, the Tigers officially claim a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
Freshman pitcherNick Brune allowed just two runs while throwing a complete game for Illinois Wesleyan to help the Titans to a 10-2 victory over No. 23 North Central at Jack Horenberger Field. IWU was able to avoid the season sweep at the hands of the Cardinals but lost the series two games to one.
Brandon Martins went 4-for-5 with three RBI to lead No. 18 Southern Maine's 19-hit attack as the Huskies defeated the visiting Wheaton (Mass.) Lyons 13-7 in a non-conference game at the USM Baseball Stadium. The teams combined for 37 hits in the game. Southern Maine had 18 singles among its 19 hits. Wheaton had five extra-base hits sprinkled among its 18 hits, but could not get the timely base hit as the Lyons left 15 runners on base.
The Castleton Spartans scored 11 runs in the first three innings of play and never looked back, as they upset 19th-ranked Amherst at Memorial Field, 11-6. Nick Swim delivered an outstanding performance to push his hitting streak to 16 games. The senior went 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, four RBIs and one run scored. Taylor Vile added two hits, two runs scored and one RBI, while Deagan Poland went 2-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored.
