Texas Tyler junior Ryan Cheatham pitched six innings, giving up only four hits and one run as the No. 20 Patriots end their road trip in Mississippi with an 8-1 win over Maryville on Sunday at Smith Wills Stadium. Senior pitchers Blake Brunnemann and Reese Read, and sophomore pitcher Max Page each pitched an inning of relief, combining to only walk one batter, strike out two and allow zero hits in the last three innings.
With six runs in the final two innings, Christopher Newport secured its first win of 2017 with a come-from-behind effort against Methodist. The Captains finished off their appearance in the Piedmont Early Spring Classic with a 12-10 win over the Monarchs, led by an impressive performance from the sophomore class. The second-year quartet of Jordan Mason, Austin Henry, Nicholas Baham, and Joseph Cutchins combined for 11 hits, while driving in seven runs and scoring five times. Baham wrapped up a dominating weekend at the plate with a .533 average with four extra-base hits, six RBI and five runs scored.
Whitman picked up a pair of non-conference victories at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to sweep the doubleheader and take the final three games of the four-game set from the Stags. The Blues, who pounded out 18 runs in their 10-6 and 8-4 wins over their hosts at Arce Field, were spurred by Joseph Zimmer's two home runs and a pair of first-time starting pitchers getting the job done. Zimmer finished Sunday with five hits including the two home runs and a double. He knocked in four runners and scored four times himself.
LaGrange improved to 6-0 with a 9-4 victory over Oglethorpe at the Firehouse Classic at Huntingdon. Tavin Thompson led the Panthers with two hits, including his first home run at LC, and four RBIs. James Poropatic was 2-for-2, including a double, scored three runs, and drove in two. Ryan Broaderick pitched six innings to pick up the win. He allowed three runs, walked one, and struck out three. Dax Willingham surrendered a run in two innings, and Austin Perez pitched a scorless ninth inning.
Concordia-Texas, in a near five-hour game, defeated Hendrix 17-14 in extra innings to snap a four-game losing streak. A combined 17 pitchers were used between the teams, 23 walks were issued, and eight hit batters. The Tornados scored 17 runs on 20 hits, while the Warriors scored 14 runs on 15 hits. In three extra frames, Hendrix out hit Concordia 4-3 but were outscored 9-6.

No. 24 Salisbury traveled for its first road game of the season. The Sea Gulls defeated Virginia Wesleyan 4-3 in a pitchers' duel on Sunday afternoon. The Salisbury pitching staff allowed five hits, three runs, and just five walks while combining to strike out eight batters in nine innings of work.
Frostburg State used a seven-run outburst in the first inning to defeat Roanoke, 9-8, at Salem Memorial Ballpark. The teams combined for 17 runs and 22 hits in the nearly three and a half hour contest. Frostburg finished with nine runs on nine hits, while Roanoke had eight runs on 13 hits. Bobcat junior Matt Bougourd led the way with two hits and four RBI, while freshman Nick Bass and junior Matt Jeffery had two RBI each.
Led by its strong pitching, No. 4 ranked Emory completed a three-game sweep of the Sewanee, Sunday. The Eagles won the opener 3-0 before taking the nightcap, 8-4. Game one starter Billy Dimlow was outstanding for Emory. Dimlow tossed 7.0 scoreless innings while striking out 12 and allowing only two hits. Luke Emmett earned the win in the nightcap after he allowed two earned runs and struck out four in 6.0 innings.
Pacific closed their 3-1 road trip to Arizona with a 6-5 win over Redlands. The offensive star for the Boxers was Charlie Dietrich who was 2-for-4 with both hits leaving the yard. He scored twice and drove in two, extending his season-opening hitting streak to five contests. The 4-1 start for Pacific is its best since a similar start to begin the 2007 season.
Lynchburg trailed Averett 2-1 through six innings when the Hornets offense woke up, scoring seven runs including three in the top of the 9th for a 8-2 win. Junior David Goulding handed in a spectacular performance, pitching a complete game, allowing only two runs while striking out four Cougars.
Jacob Yamane went 3-5 with five runs batted in, including a grand slam, to lead Whitworth to a 15-4 win over Willamette in a non-conference game at Wilsonville High School. Yamane's grand slam, his first home run of the season, highlighted a seven-run, seventh inning for the Pirates. Yamane also singled in a run in the third inning.
No. 21 Texas Lutheran scored two runs in the second and added a key insurance run in the eighth to provide the winning margin in a 3-2 victory over Texas-Dallas. At AirHogs Stadium, Tyler Cauley tripled and Taylor Sammons singled to drive in runs in the second, and Colby Schrade singled home Racye Gatlin with the Bulldog run in the eighth. Gatlin started the one-out rally in the eighth with a single to third base and a throwing error that brought him to second. Schrade then singled to right field to score Gatlin.
