Cal Lutheran used a three-run eighth inning to propel themselves over Redlands in a rare nonconference matchup with their SCIAC opponents, grabbing an 8-5 win at George "Sparky" Anderson Field. The Kingsmen (14-1, 8-1 SCIAC) racked up 14 hits on the day as the offense continued to produce late runs. Austin Carrillo notched his fourth three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Tanner Wright, Zach Bullard and Harrison Dunkel each enjoyed a two-hit day as eight of the nine Kingsmen starters recorded a hit against the Bulldogs. Alexander Rivas delivered another quality start, tossing six innings while allowing three earned runs. The sophomore posted five scoreless innings before he appeared to fatigue in the later innings. Despite the uneasy departure, Rivas punched out five hitters and allowed just six hits.

Trailing by a 5-2 margin after six innings, MIT closed the game with seven unanswered runs as the Engineers rallied past No. 11 UMass Boston for a 9-5 season-opening victory. The Engineers now hold a 23-14 advantage in the all-time series as MIT snapped a four-game losing streak to the Beacons.

Senior second baseman Drew Healey went 3-3 with a home run and three RBI to help lift Saint Joseph's College (2-5) past Illinois College (1-6), 9-8, in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational action. Sophomore starter Johnathan Flynn picked up his first win of the season after allowing three runs (one earned) off two hits and two walks with one strikeout over five innings. Senior Jonathan Rolfe, freshman Colin Jackson, and sophomore Matt Soldano combined to work three innings, yielding three runs off five hits and two walks with a pair of K's, and Marchia wrapped up the win after giving up the two-run blast and two hits overall in the ninth.

Senior lefty Sean Kealey struck out 13 Presidents in seven shutout innings as Allegheny team a 10-3 win at Washington & Jefferson. The 13 strikeouts represent a career high for Kealey, who walked none and scattered just five hits against a team that has been in to the Division III World Series in two of the last three seasons. Through two starts in 2020, the senior has struck out 22 and walked none in 13.0 innings. Allegheny scored the first eight runs of the game with one in the second, four in the third and three in the fifth. After W&J scratched across three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Gators put up two in the top of the ninth to set the final tally.

Junior Alex Cull had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in two more, sophomore Justin Charron hit a three-run homer and senior pitcher Scott Grant threw six strong innings as Albion continued its early season success with a 13-3 victory over Rose-Hulman in Auburndale, Fla. The Britons have started the season 4-0, their best since they opened the 2002 season with a 9-0 mark under former coach Jim Conway. Carden was an assistant on that team and remembers. "We started that season 9-0 and I think we won two games the rest of the season," he cracked. "We don't want that." Actually, they won seven more games but his point was well taken -- a good start doesn't necessarily equal a great season.

Fueled by a eight-run seventh inning, No. 13 North Central (Ill.) ran away with its sixth-straight win to start the season, overpowering Misericordia , 16-7 at North Charlotte Regional Park. The Cardinals (6-0) scored in six of the first seven innings, racking up 19 hits and a season-high eight extra-base hits, including four doubles, two triples and two homeruns.  North Central has now scored double-digit runs in five of the six games this season, outscoring opponents 71-21 on the young season.

Drew Ryback struck out eight and Trip McCaffrey drove in two runs as #23 Rowan (2-0) shut out Immaculata, 4-0, in non-conference action. Ryback (2-0) scattered four hits for his second shutout win this year, while Zach Listro struck out four in relief, and earned the save. McCaffrey was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Mitch Walker scored one run and drove in another for the Profs.

Elizabethtown banged out 39 hits and racked up 38 runs on the day, taking two from Muskingum, 18-13 and 20-7, in non-conference action. With the wins, the Blue Jays improve to 6-2 overall, while the Fighting Muskies fall to 3-4 on the year. Freshman Ben Watson launched his first career home run, going a combined 4-8 with three RBI, four runs scored and a double. Senior Derek Manning tallied seven total RBI, while senior Riley McGinley and Mike Christy, junior JT Thompson and sophomore Tyler McGonigle all recorded triples. Junior Arley Shepherd launched Elizabethtown's other home run on the day.

Senior Max Felsenstein went 5-for-6 with four RBIs, three runs, two doubles, and two stolen bases as Drew broke open a close game with an eight-run sixth inning en route to a 15-4 seven-inning victory over Northland during its Spring Break trip to Florida. The Rangers (4-4) banged out a season-high 23 hits, a mark that is tied for fifth-most in team history and the most since they also had 23 in a 14-1 win over Elizabethtown on April 18, 2015. Felsenstein posted a career-high for both hits and RBIs and reached base in all six of his plate appearances. He batted safely in his last four at-bats and ripped his last two hits in the same inning.

Mitchell rode a pair of strong pitching performances to a doubleheader sweep of Waynesburg at the RussMatt Invitational, winning by final scores of 3-0 and 13-0. Roland Thivierge faced only two batters over the minimum and allowed just one hit in the opener, striking out seven over 7.0 scoreless innings. Jakari Pellegrini followed suit in the second game, tossing 6.0 scoreless frames while allowing four hits and fanning six. Mitchell has now won three straight games and improved to 4-3 on the season. The Mariners wrap up their spring trip with a single game against Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Friday.

Trine continued its winning ways with a 7-5 victory against the Milwaukee School of Engineering at the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Fla.vThe Thunder accounted for 12 hits in the game and had four players who finished with a pair of hits.  Junior Joe Fiorucci was two-of-three with a run scored and two RBI.  Juniors Shayne Devine, A.J. Mitchell (Emmett, Mich./Kellogg CC) and freshman Adam Stefanelli all had two hits in four at-bats.  Devine and Mitchell also added a run scored and Stefanelli tallied a RBI.

Alvernia (7-4) scored eight runs in the first inning and ran it's win streak to seven games with a 23-2 win over Olivet (0-4) at the Player Development Complex. The Golden Wolves sent 11 batters to the plate in the home half of the first. Leadoff hitter Justin Ayala walked twice and scored twice. Nick Nutile, Billy Dougar, and Brandon Smith each had 2-run hits in the inning. Junior starter Brian Kane went seven innings and allowed two unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Cole Sinnott pitched the last two innings, struck out two, and didn't allow a baserunner.

Fitchburg State picked up its first win on the season,

Wilson earned their third and fourth straight victories today, coming against the visiting Pacers of Marywood University with scores of 7-3 in game one and 4-1 in game two. With the two wins, the Phoenix improve to 4-2 overall.  The Phoenix finished game one with 7 runs on 9 hits with Brandon Cook, KJ Curry, and Kevin Finn each finishing with two hits. Finn and Nick Quinn both contributed two RBIs. Cam Nolet picked up his first win on the mound in a Phoenix uniform, going 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Wilson had 4 runs on just 4 hits in game two with hits coming from Nick Quinn, Dean Mercer, James Husar and Drew Farrell. Kevin Ehrman earned his first win of the season, going the distance allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 3.

Saint John's (Minn.) another sweep, 8-3 and 17-5, against Rivier in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Johnnies (6-1 overall) collected 29 hits, including 10 for extra bases, in the doubleheader. Senior shortstop Michael Gruber continued his hot start by going 7-for-7 with three doubles and seven RBI in the two wins. He is now batting .708 (17-for-24) with eight runs scored, six doubles, a triple and 14 RBI from the No. 2 spot in the lineup over the season's first seven games. Senior outfielder Aaron Kloeppner was also perfect at the plate Thursday, 6-for-6, with five runs scored and three stolen bases.

Neumann defeated Grove City, 8-3. Ryan Farley started the game and went four innings. Matt Grosse picked up the win going 2.1 innings in relief. Brennan Hatala went the final 2.2 innings. Zach Ray and Alex Layton each knocked in two runs while Joe Murray knocked in one.

Widener closed out its spring trip to Florida by splitting a double-header with Chatham, falling 7-6 in the opener and taking a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.Matt Samson had three hits on the day, knocking in two RBIs and homering in game one. Kyle Brex posted three hits and a RBI, tripling in the first matchup. Stephen Posner also chipped in with three hits. Joey Norton grabbed the win in game two, allowing just one earned run through seven innings and striking out seven batters.

Sophomore Kyle Wise gave Augustana a 3-2 lead with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly and junior Josh Chamberlain closed out the game with 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief Thursday, as the Vikings defeated Bluffton 4-2 at Player Development Complex #3. Coach Greg Wallace's club improved to 2-2 on the year, while the Beavers fell to 2-5. Chamberlain allowed just two hits and walked none while fanning seven in his 4 1/3-inning stint. He earned the win in his first decision of the year. Hoban gave up four hits and struck out six in 4 2/3 innings, but issued five walks. Garrison (0-1) suffered the loss.
