Shenandoah wins 11th straight win

St. Mary's College of Maryland (4-4, 2-0 C2C) traveled to Southern Virginia University to take on the Knights (0-8, 0-4 C2C) in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday. The Seahawks swept the Knights by taking game one 11-3 and game two 8-0.

Senior Keegan Woolford became Shenandoah University's new home run king as the No. 13 Hornets took an 8-2 ODAC victory from Bridgewater College Tuesday afternoon. Woolford, the Hornets first baseman, hit solo home runs in the first and fifth innings to help SU (12-1, 7-0 ODAC) to its seventh straight victory. Woolford's home run is the 31st of his career and comes in his 119th contest in an SU uniform. Colby Martin backed up Woolford with two hits and two RBI and leadoff hitter Frankie Ritter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Freshman Reilly Owen (3-0) pitched the initial 5 2/3 and got the win after giving up an unearned run on three hits and five walks. Cade Templeton got the final 10 outs to earn the save.

Scoring early and often on Tuesday in their return to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play, North Central College rolled to a 15-5 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University at Zimmerman Stadium. The Titans (9-7, 4-4 CCIW) played some sloppy ball on Tuesday, committing four errors, hitting six batters and throwing seven wild pitches, and the Cardinal offense took full advantage to plate five runs in the first and eight runs on just two hits in the fourth.

Emory & Henry College (2-6) picked up its second midweek victory in as many attempts, holding off a ninth-inning rally by Ferrum College (4-11) for an 8-7 win Tuesday. Down to its final out in the top of the ninth, Ferrum's offense came alive to score five runs, cutting the margin one. Tyson Measamer highlighted the frame with a two-run single to right field but the Panthers would get no closer as the Wasps grabbed the 8-7 victory. E&H sophomore Jack Singleton earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Junior Michael Owen earned the save as he picked up the final out of the contest.

A mid-game offensive surge helped guide Carthage to a 10-7 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field. While the home team surrendered a run in the top of both the first and second innings, Carthage (6-5) would get one back to make it 2-1 at the end of the second. After Concordia Wisconsin (7-3) extended their lead to 5-1, the Firebirds responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth as Colton Klein, Ben Levicki, and Pierson Gibis each recorded RBI singles. Carthage would take the lead in the following inning, as an RBI groundout from Bryce Prybylinski, RBI double from Levicki, and RBI single from Jake Cinelli set the score at 8-5. As the Falcons brought the game within one run, Prybylinski slapped a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Firebirds a three-run advantage. The home team would seal the win after Jacob DeLabio closed out the game with back-to-back strikeouts.

Brockport went 2-0 in today's doubleheader against Fredonia, improving to 3-1 overall and starting off 2-0 in SUNYAC West play. Brockport had the bats going all day winning game one by a score of 15-2, and taking game two 17-2. Leadoff man James Houlahan was incredible against the Blue Devils, batting 7-for-9 with six runs scored, two RBIs, and one double. Ryan Mansell rattled off multiple extra base hits, hitting 5-for-8 on the day with three doubles and two RBIs. Matt O'Dair caused problems on the base path as well, going 5-for-8 at the plate and stealing three bases. Andrew Huffman (1-0) and Tom Kretzler (1-0) combined for 13 strikeouts in the doubleheader, as both pitchers earned the winning decision. The relievers got the job done all day as well on the mound. Trevor McCarthy, Kobie Punchard, Kyle Canavally, and Matt McGowan combined for seven innings of work without allowing a single run to score.

Paul Fomby homered twice and drove in six runs to help lead Elmhurst University to a 14-4 win over Wheaton College. The Bluejays scored early and often, putting runs on the board in six innings and totaling 17 hits in the victory. Fomby finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and six driven in. Trey Romay added three hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Zachary Mietzner added three hits, including a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Noah Jordan made the start and picked up the win for Elmhurst. Jordan worked 5.2 innings, scattering five hits and just two earned runs.

McMurry University had the bats working in two high-scoring affairs on Tuesday at Walt Driggers Field, as the War Hawks earned two thrilling wins over Schreiner University in a non-conference twin bill. McMurry (4-14) totaled 21 hits on the day, while Schreiner (7-15) had 23 in two close games. McMurry won 11-8 in the opener and 12-11 in the nightcap. Both teams had to rally from large deficits, with McMurry overcoming a 7-2 deficit to score nine runs in the fourth and fifth inning. In game two, the War Hawks led 12-1 and held off 10 unanswered runs from the Mountaineers to win 12-11. Coming into the game with nine homers all season, McMurry smashed seven homers in its two games today. Josh De La Rosa and Mike Gonzales each had two homers – one per game – while Ryan Potter, Nick Hamel and Marty Carnahan all went yard once.

Capital University earned win number two of the
season as Jared Heidecker put forth his best start of
the season to guide the Crusaders to victory, 8-4.

The Bearcats split the doubleheader against Franciscan in a Presidents' Athletic Conference, dropping a 4-3 decision in the opener before riding a stellar 10 runs in three innings to claim the 16-14 victory in game two. The Bearcats would tie game one in the seventh but in the bottom of the seventh, Franciscan would tally one hit and one run, taking advantage of a hit by pitch to earn the victory 4-3. In the second half of the twin bill, the Bearcats had a dominant ninth inning converting a three run deficit to take its first lead of the game, 16-14. After a leadoff walk, Matt Evans shut down the Barons to secure the win.

Junior second baseman Ramon Garza went 5-for-5 from the plate with three RBI as he led the UT Dallas baseball team to a 12-2 road win over Hardin-Simmons Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play. Garza's five hits tied a Comet single-game record as he picked up a pair of doubles and scored twice in the run-rule victory over the Cowboys at Hunter Field. The San Antonio native and Cornell transfer became the 21st player in Comet history to record a five-hit game. Daniel Zamora was 3-for-4 with his third home run of the season, knocking in four runs, while A.J. Liu was 2-for-5 with his team-leading fourth long ball of the spring. The Comets used eight pitchers in the midweek contest, each tossing one inning.

Hilbert split today's doubleheader home opener with Hiram by taking game one 12-7, before falling in game two 18-3. Josh McTigue took a no-decision in his game one start, tossing 4+ innings. Aydan Rolph picked up his second win of the season after tossing two innings in relief, allowing just a single earned run and added four strikeouts. Hilbert began game two with some shaky play on defense and that carried into the fourth to spark an 8-run inning, putting Hiram up 12-3. From there, they would cruise to an 18-3 victory.

Webster University concluded its six-game homestand Tuesday afternoon by splitting a SLIAC doubleheader against Westminster at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. The third and sixth-ranked Gorloks fell 8-3 in the opener, before scoring five runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap to post a 6-3 win to secure the split. In Tuesday's opener, Webster's pitchers walked seven and and allowed 10 hits in suffering an 8-3 setback. In the second game, the Gorloks outhit the Blue Jays, 9-7 and used an outstanding starting pitching performance from fourth-year junior Andrew Padilla, who pitched 6.2 innings and allowed six hits and two unearned runs, while striking out a career high eight and walking none en route to improving his record to 1-1 on the season.

 Penn State Harrisburg remained undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play thanks to a pair of dominant victories over Penn State Berks on Tuesday afternoon, March 30. The Lions left no doubt in a 21-6 game-one win before putting the finishing touches on the doubleheader sweep with a 13-5 decision in the second contest of the twin bill.Penn State Harrisburg's offense got off to a slow start before erupting for 11 runs in the fourth inning and nine more in the fifth en route to a 15-run victory over Penn State Berks in the doubleheader opener. Casey Winters was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Chase Smith, Matt Parks, and Dallas Hite also registered three hits apiece. Bret Williams hit two home runs, Chase Smith went 4-for-4 at the dish, and Penn State Harrisburg got a quality start from Hunter Merritt in completing the doubleheader sweep of Penn State Berks thanks to a 13-5 victory in the nightcap.
