The comeback bid came up a run short in the ninth inning against Emerson College later in the day, as BVU dropped a 10-9 contest for its first loss of the year. It was a pitcher's duel with the Spartans. Aurora managed to plate one in the ninth to extend its advantage to 6-3 before the Beavers loaded the bases in their half of the ninth. The Spartans forced out a runner at home for the first out before Joel Garcia drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-4. Sophomore Caden Mathewson then lifted a ball into the gap in left centerfield that dropped and cleared the bases for a walk-off triple and a 7-6 victory. In the nightcap, Emerson used a five-run second inning as the Lions built an early 5-1 lead. The Lions then added a run in the third before Zach Beekmann blasted his first home run of the year in the bottom half to make it 6-2. Despite facing the seemingly insurmountable deficit, the Panthers’ bats were patient in the eighth using three singles, four walks, two errors and three hit batters to tie the game. Freshman Danny Quinn singled twice, scored a run and drove in two during the rally. The Beavers put two runners on with one down in the bottom of the inning, but senior Noah Wachter came in to get the final two outs to pick up the save for the second straight game. Cassady gave up a lead off home run on the first pitch of the game but quickly left it in the past by getting eight straight strikeouts. His 13 strikeouts on the day marked his third double-digit strikeout performance in four starts this season.

Otterbein currently sits 3-1 after a 6-4 win over Haverford inside the historic Terry Park. The clash between two schools with annual NCAA Tournament expectations settled into an old-fashioned pitching dual between Haverford's Josh Fuller and Otterbein's Jackson Peloquin, making his first college start. Fuller retired the first 10 Cardinals and Peloquin used three double-play groundouts to remain intact, with the only blemish coming on a wild pitch in the second where Haverford took a 1-0 lead. Otterbein kept grinding and worked pitch counts, ultimately leaping in front on a 2-RBI single (with two outs) from Carter in the seventh. The Cards then opened a 5-1 edge in the eighth on a sequence that saw four timely singles. Freshman catcher Sam Roy's 2-RBI knock proved to be the biggest, as the recent defensive sub worked a lengthy at-bat in his lone plate appearance before dropping a ball into right-center. The Cards found an insurance run in the ninth and then finished the job behind lefty transfer Ashton Spurgeon, who tossed the final four outs for a save. His effort was benefited mightily by an acrobatic, potential game-saving catch by centerfielder Ryan Mitchell with one out and the tying run at the dish.

Sophomore Alex Gwost made his first collegiate appearance and earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief. He struck out three and walked one.
