Lynchburg senior Garrett Jackson slugged a homer and a single in Lynchburg's 9-8 win over York (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon. Dawning their Sunday-red jerseys, the 15th-ranked Hornets rolled Brandon Pond out onto the mound as they searched for their eighth win in a row and second three-game sweep of the season. Pond allowed his first run of the season but then forced a double play and a strikeout to escape the inning. The Hornets instantly gave Pond some run support and hung four on the Spartans' starter. Lynchburg exploded for its second four-run inning of the day in the sixth to put Lynchburg up 9-3. The Spartans nearly closed the six-run deficit with five runs over the next two innings. Grayson Thurman stepped onto the mound for the ninth inning and his first three-out save opportunity of the season. Despite only needing three outs, Thurman struck out four men as one batter reached on a dropped third strike. His four-strikeout save secured his fifth save of the season, Lynchburg's eighth win in a row, and Pond's third win. Thurman is tied for the most saves in Division-III baseball, and the Hornets are the eighth team in DIII to reach 10 wins in 2022.
The eighth-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls recorded its first shutout of the year in impressive fashion, blanking the fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium. Kavi Caster capped a monster weekend in style, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. In the two games against No. 13 Southern Maine and Johns Hopkins, Caster went 4-for-10 with three homers, five runs scored and six RBIs. Stephen Rice completed an impressive weekend in his own right, going 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI. Rice finished 5-for-10 with two doubles, one homer, three runs and five RBIs against Southern Maine and Hopkins. Jackson Balzan (1-1) returned to form and spearheaded a shutout for his first win of the year. Balzan scattered six hits across 5.1 scoreless innings, walking three and striking out one on 76 pitches. Jimmy Adkins locked down his fourth career save and first this year, striking out four over three scoreless innings and giving up just one baserunner on a single.
After combining for 22 runs on 27 hits in its first two games of the season, No. 25 Denison scored five runs in each of the first two innings en route to earning a 19-9 win over No. 4 Adrian on the third and final day of the 5th Annual Berry Invitational. It was a game that featured five combined home runs between the two teams, including two grand slams by the Big Red. Then after a pair of solo home runs by the Bulldogs in the top of the second inning to make it 5-2, the Big Red put up another five-spot in the bottom half of the inning on a run-scoring hit of the game by Daniel Spencer and a two-out grand slam to left field by Charlie Glennon. Denison's second grand slam of the game came with no outs and was off the bat of Dylan Hunter in the bottom of the seventh inning.
No. 18 Shenandoah wrapped up the Mr. V Memorial Classic baseball tournament Sunday afternoon with a 10-8 loss to Oswego (N.Y.) State. Shenandoah (10-3) had the tying run on second base with one out in the ninth, but the Lakers (4-2) got a groundout and a strikeout to close out the weekend with two wins over the Hornets. Earlier Shenandoah earned a 15-3 non-conference win over Keystone College Sunday afternoon. A five-RBI day for first-year Brody Pickette helped the Hornets (10-2) earn their second victory over the Giants (1-4) in the past three days

Kean belted out 19 runs on 22 hits as they defeated Penn State Berks 19-12 on Sunday afternoon. Every starter for the #24 Cougars (11-1) had a hit, with eight of the nine with multiple hits on the afternoon. Tim Huxen led the way with a 3-for-5 day and four RBI while Michael Lapczynski, Caleb Rodriguez and Philip Mahlik also recorded three hit performances. In all, Kean had nine extra base hits, with three triples and six doubles. The Cougars trailed early in the contest then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Dylan Taliaferro (4-0) picked up the win after striking out 10 in six innings. He allowed six runs and 10 hits with no walks.
Senior right fielder Jake Studley and junior second baseman Mike Maher combined for seven hits and five runs batted in to lead No. 14 Wheaton College (Mass.) to a 14-4 victory over Brandeis at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. Every hitter in the Wheaton starting nine collected at least one hit and eight of nine drove in at least one run in the team's 19-hit, 14-run outburst. The run total is the highest in a season-opener for the Lyons since a 14-5 win over Nichols College on March 4, 2018 and the hit total is the most in a game to begin a campaign since they rapped out 19 hits vs. Babson College on March 14, 1999. Wheaton scored at least one run in every inning, a feat the Lyons accomplished last season vs. Emerson College on March 20 in their second game of the year.
LaGrange completed a series sweep of Eastern Mennonite on Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers (12-1) spotted the Royals (2-8) an early lead and roared back for a 10-3 win. Matt Eden led LC's 12-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and had three RBIs. Jared Aldridge, Cael Chatham, and Joe Ruth each had two hits. Aldridge also scored three runs and an RBI. Ethan Fry started for the Panthers on the mound. He allowed five hits, three runs but only one earned, in two innings. Michael Menhart threw 3-2/3 scoreless innings, before giving way to Jack Richards. Richards (2-0) got the win, pitching 2-1/3 shutout innings, while walking one and striking out four. Ethan Kramer retired the Royals in order in the ninth.
Four pitchers combined on a six-hitter with seven strikeouts and seniors Ryan Bagdasarian and Luke Broadhurst each had two hits and two RBI and combined to score three runs as No. 9-nationally-ranked Eastern Connecticut State University won its third game in two days with a 9-5 victory over first-time opponent St. Mary's College (Md.) Sunday at the Hawk's Nest. Eastern (3-0), which swept Hood College by a combined score of 10-2 Saturday, broke open a tight game Sunday with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth despite only one hit to make a winner of first-year righty Griffin Pontbriant, who pitched 3 2/3 scoreless middle innings in relief of senior righty Zach Player in his debut.
A four-run third inning propelled No. 2 ranked Marietta to a 5-3 victory over Lebanon Valley College Sunday afternoon at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Etta Express moves to 3-1 on the season, while the Flying Dutchmen fall to 0-3 overall. Pioneer starter Gino Sabatine (1-1) blanked the Dutchmen through the first five innings. Lebanon Valley finally got to Sabatine in the sixth. Mike Bulgia singled and moved into scoring position on a ground out. Dave Mangold plated Bulgia with a single up the middle. Shane Stossel hit a two-run home run off the left field foul pole chasing Sabatine from the game. Sam Mathews took over on the mound and slammed the door shut for his second save of the season. Mathews whiffed six of the 10 batters he faced and allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings of work. Marietta turned a triple play in the second inning, the second of the D-III season.
Birmingham-Southern came back from a 7-2 deficit to defeat Sewanee 12-10 and sweep their opening weekend of SAA play. Birmingham-Southern was held scoreless through the middle three innings but came alive late. Jack Fleming hit his fourth home run of the year to cut into the Sewanee lead. In the eighth inning the Panther bats got hot and exploded for six runs on four hits and came all the way back down to take a 12-8 lead. In the top of the ninth, two errors gave Sewanee life as they were able to score two runs. Davis Williams shut the door striking out two and getting the final batter to bounce to second base for a weekend sweep of conference opponent Sewanee.
The 12th ranked Webster Gorloks were back in action this afternoon when they played host to the Benedictine Eagles for the final game of the 2022 Webster Classic. The Gorloks defeated the Eagles by a final score of 11-1 in seven innings to improve to 5-1 on the season. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-2 on the year. A pinch-hit grand slam from Evan Evola in the bottom of the seventh solidified the win for the Gorloks. Alek Elges (1-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as he allowed just two hits while striking out five in 5.1 scoreless innings. J.T. Miller came in to relieve Elges as he allowed one earned run while striking out four in the final 1.2 innings of the game.
