Thiel College opened its season with a 4-0 win against the Bluffton Beavers in the Gene Cusic Classic on Sunday. It was the Tomcats' first opening day shutout since 2013. Alex Lutz (pictured) earned his first career save in three shutout innings in Thiel's 4-0 victory.

Arcadia completed the three-game sweep of Penn State Harrisburg with a 6-4 victory in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon. The Knights improved to 8-1 with their eighth consecutive win. Arcadia got on the board in the top of the fifth with five runs aided by two Lion errors. Penn State closed the gap with a run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, and one in the eighth, but Arcadia's bullpen slammed the door to secure the victory. Nick Fossile earned his first victory of the season, allowing one run over six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Pierce Rucci, Nadell Booker, and Owen Margolis finished the game, with Margolis pitching two scoreless innings to earn his second save. Madera finished 3-for-4 with one run scored to lead the offense.

Baldwin Wallace faced non-conference opponent Alvernia at Terry Park Sports Complex. The Yellow Jackets claimed victory over the Golden Wolves by a 6-4 final score. BW (6-0) was led by freshman second baseman Sean Kolenich as he went 3-4 from the plate, totaling four RBIs and a run. Senior right-handed reliever Steve Spidell also led BW by earning the win on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings, tallying seven strikeouts, and allowing just one earned run on two hits.

The Kalamazoo College improved to 4-0 with a sweep
of Manchester University, 15-1 and 8-6. The Hornets
defeated the Spartans 19-6 and 13-5 on Saturday.

Marian (2-0) defeated Thomas (Maine) 3-1 and 8-5 to open the 2022 season. A pitching duel opened the day for the Sabres and Terriers with Marian able to take advantage in key situations. After a fairly quiet first three innings, Marian built a 2-0 lead that held up as both team's pitchers were on point. A quick start to game two saw the Sabres plate eight runs in the first four innings and the sweep was in the books. Thomas rallied but sophomore Connor Medvecz was able to end the comeback, though, coming in to record the final out and earn the save.

Penn State Altoona broke out the broomsticks on Sunday to record the first wins of its Florida trip, sweeping Fitchburg State in a doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park. Penn State Altoona (3-3) took game one 16-5, then defeated Fitchburg State (0-4) 11-4 in the nightcap. Penn State Altoona jumped on Fitchburg early in the game, putting 13 runs on the board over the first three innings to take a commanding lead en route to a comfortable victory. The Lions totaled 16 runs on 13 hits. Penn State Altoona's bats again led the way, producing 11 runs on 15 hits, while the pitching held Fitchburg to four runs on five hits.

Nebraska Wesleyan defeated New Jersey City University, 12-5, to open its spring break trip in Davenport, Florida. It is the first of six games the Prairie Wolves will play in Florida. After giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning, NWU answered with a run in the top of the second inning. The Prairie Wolves then widened the advantage with a pair of runs in the third inning then four more runs in the fourth inning for a 7-1 lead. Kaleb Knox and Derek Kolbush paced the offense in the victory. The duo combined for nine RBIs on four hits with three runs scored. NWU's pitching staff also shined in the win. Three Prairie Wolves took the mound and combined for 10 strikeouts. Dylan Cox led the way with seven strikeouts over five innings of work.

Fontbonne defeated WPI 5-4 at Lake Myrtle Main Stadium Sunday afternoon. Jake Jump earned the win for Fontbonne while Tyson Wilson earned his first save of the season while Ty Kueper had the game-winning run for the Griffins. In the afternoon session WPI suffered a 18-2 loss to Rhode Island College (3-3). Rhode Island College put three runs up in each of the first three innings amassing a 10-0 lead before the Engineers were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Harrison Mansfield got the start for Rhode Island College picking up his first win of the season pitching four complete innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four.

Westfield State graduate student Max Silverman and senior Nick Martin tallied a combined nine RBI over the twin-bill set as the Owls took both games (7-2 in game one and 9-5 in game two) in the season opening doubleheader on the road at Springfield College on Sunday afternoon. In game one, the Owls were fueled by the bat of Silverman along with strong starting pitching by senior Shane Bogli. In game two, Nate Langmeier recorded the win, throwing four innings and allowing two earned runs. First-year Samuel Palmer was first out of the pen, firing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

Penn State Behrend used a five-run eighth inning to take down Kenyon 6-3 and give the Lions their first win on their annual spring trip on Sunday. The Lions headed to the bottom of the eighth trailing 2-1 and in an inning highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Anthony Slate, Behrend took the lead for good. Jacob Lindow got the start on the mound, going 5.1 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out five. Colin Kelly grabbed his first win of the year pitching two innings in relief, logging three strikeouts.

On day two of the season, Rochester split a doubleheader with Catholic at the Ripken Complex in Myrtle Beach. The Cardinals (4-5) got a walk-off grand slam from Jesse Lacefield in game one for a 5-4 victory in the bottom of the seventh, with Rochester (3-1) responding in game two of the twinbill, earning a 7-4 win. The fireworks in game one came in the seventh. Catholic went to the bullpen and reliever Jack Zaffiro gave up a walk, single and another walk to load the bases with one out. Another pitching change preceded a two-run single by Whitley to give Rochester the 3-1 lead. Rende added a third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly and Rochester was up three heading to Catholic's final at-bat. Rochester turned to Jake Larson for the save, but Catholic fought back against the grad student. A single and walk brought the tying run to the plate. Larson got back-to-back outs to get the Cardinals down to their final out. Another walk loaded the bases ahead of Lacefield who entered the game in the top of the inning. The Catholic defensive sub stepped up and launched a home run over the right field fence for the win. In game two, Rochester scored in five of the first six innings of the game to power to the victory.

Illinois Wesleyan took the three-game series against Washington University in St. Louis by winning the rubber game, March 6, in St. Louis. The Titans scored three in the eighth to stun the Bears, 6-5. With the win, the Green and White's record improved to 2-5, while WashU's record slipped to 1-5. The Titans scored three runs in the eighth thanks to a Thomas Bleker single, a Evan Ranneklev fielder's choice, and a senior Jared Mutter single to retake the lead, 6-4. WashU attempted a comeback, but the IWU bullpen shut the door to complete the win and the series win, 6-5.

Sam Mills and Carson Weir both hit three-run homers and Oglethorpe thwarted another late scare to defeat Rhodes 13-12 and win the Southern Athletic Association opening series Sunday afternoon in the three-game finale at Hermance Stadium. Oglethorpe looked to break the game wide open with a seven-run fourth, when Weir capped the inning with a three-run bomb to right field. It gave the Stormy Petrels an 11-3 lead, although Rhodes would battle back with a five-run sixth bookended by two runs in both the fifth and seventh. Harrison Hall and Weir were able to score on an error in the sixth to keep the Petrel lead, which was 13-12 midway through the seventh. Mills connected with Mason Pearcy for a great play to throw out a would-be base stealer to end the eighth, thwarting a mini scare in that inning. Then, the Petrels doubled off a man on second base in the ninth to thwart a scare in the final inning.

George Fox won its first Northwest Conference series of the 2022 season with a 10-2 statement victory against Pacific Lutheran on Sunday to close the series out. Ben Wills got the start and went through the seventh for Fox in an impressive outing that featured five strikeouts and one run allowed on seven hits. Wills kept the Lutes quiet all day and induced multiple double-play grounders for Fox. Alex Abbott would come on to close the game with two innings of work, allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out one.

SUNY Oneonta completed the weekend series sweep, winning both games in the Sunday doubleheader against SUNY Canton. The Red Dragons won game one, 9-1, and took game two, 9-2, after being down 2-1 through five innings. Oneonta improved their record to 3-2. The Roos scored first in game one off Red Dragon miscues but Oneonta put up three more runs in the third, giving them a 7-1 lead. Before game one concluded, the Red Dragons scored two more in the sixth. Junior Anthony Gonzalez hit an RBI single and Widercrantz hit a triple that scored Gonzalez. The Roos held their ground and started the nightcap with a 2-0 lead after two innings. The Red Dragons battled back and took the lead, and the game, after an eight-run sixth inning.

Southwestern ended its four-game slide, scoring with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Susquehanna River Hawks 10-9 in the wildest of endings. Southwestern built a 9-7 lead heading into the ninth. Susquehanna hit a two-out triple and double to tied the game in the top of the inning. following back-to-back strikeouts, the Pirates never got the ball out of the infield as a two-out walk and infield single were followed by two wild pitches , ending the game and breaking Southwestern's losing streak.

Penn State Abington scored four runs in the decisive sixth inning and held on at the end for a 9-7 triumph over Concordia Chicago on the team's Spring Break trip. Concordia Chicago made things interesting in the top of the ninth as it loaded the bases with one out. A walk brought in one run while a sacrifice fly made it 9-7 with two outs and two on. Reliever Montana Milward got the last batter to ground out to second and the Nittany Lions had their fourth win of the year.

Ramapo opened the 2022 season with a pair of seven inning wins over host St. Joseph's College Long Island. The Roadrunners won game one, 22-4 and game two, 14-3. Ramapo pounded out 29 hits in the doubleheader including ten doubles and two home runs. The pitching staff struck out 19 in 14 innings of action while they held the Golden Eagle offense to just 11 hits. The Roadrunners scored six runs in the top of the first inning as they cruised to a 22-4 victory in game one. Brian Baranok finished 4-4 with four RBI and three runs scored while Tyler Guadagno finished 3-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. Ramapo moved to 2-0 overall with a 15-hit attack in game two. Baranok remained perfect at the plate on the day as he finished game two, 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Justin Garthaffner went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Jackson Curtis and freshman Owen Baum each had three hits and sophomore Luke Sokolski drove in three runs as Plymouth State held off Augustana, 9-6, in non-conference action during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers jumped out to a 5-1 lead through the first two innings. Augustana cut the margin to 5-4 with a three-run fourth, but PSU answered right back with a three-spot in the top of the fifth. The Vikings brought the tying run to the plate with one down in the bottom of the ninth, but senior Noah Wachter picked up the save after retiring the final two batters.

In doubleheader action Sunday, Piedmont brought Milkjug Magic back to centerstage at Loudermilk capping off an improbable comeback with a walkoff victory in the 10th inning of game two. Piedmont dropped game one 19-8 before winning 10-9 in game two in 10 innings. The Monarchs were in control of the first contest from the jump as they scored five runs in the first inning. The improbable comeback for Piedmont came in the eighth inning as the Lions scored six runs on three hits to tie the contest. The Monarchs went to the bullpen for the first time in the game to start the eighth and made two additional pitching changes in the inning. In the 10th for Piedmont, Carter Ballstadt becoming the man of the hour driving one to left and bringing in the walk-off game-winning run.

Utica scored 31 runs over 14 innings in its opening day doubleheader sweep of the Yeshiva Maccabees. The Pioneers took game one 14-1 and the second game 17-1. SUNY Cortland transfer Brendan May wasted no time making noise in his first game as a Pioneer. In his first at-bat with the team, May connected for a solo home run to give Utica a 1-0 lead two batters into its season. The offense erupted for six more runs in the 5th inning and chalked up one more run in the 6th frame while Yeshiva was able to score one in the 7th as the Pioneers cruised to a 14-1 win. Offense carried over into the second game as the Pioneers handled Yeshiva once again, 17-1. At the dish, Joe Battista, Joe Crossley and Ryan Cardone carried the way. The trio combined for 11 RBI with Crossley bringing home five, Battista four and Cardone two. Battista finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run while Cardone and Crossley each went 2-for-3.

Coe split a pair of games on Sunday, wrapping up its opening weekend of action in 2022. The Kohawks dropped the opening game of the day, falling 9-1 to UW-Oshkosh while pulling out a come-from-behind 8-7 victory over Millikin. The Titans racked up nine hits and nine runs in the opening game, holding Coe to just five hits and one run to secure the victory. The Kohawks bounced back in game two, recording 14 hits and eight runs to salvage a split for the day. Coe scored four runs in the top of the eighth and two in the top of the ninth to grab its first lead of the game and held on in the bottom of the ninth to win 8-7. The results move Coe to 2-2 on the season as UW-Oshkosh and Millikin move to 2-4 and 10-3 overall.

A combined game shutout by the junior pitching tandem of Travis Brescia and Thomas Iazzetta led Manhattanville College to its first win of the season, blanking Bridgewater State 7-0 on Sunday. The win makes the Valiants 1-1 through three days of The Ripken Experience down in Myrtle Beach. The duo of Brescia and Iazzetta held the Bears to just three hits and a single walk across nine innings of work. Brescia got the start, tossing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out a pair. The junior induced 11 groundouts to keep Bridgewater State off the basepaths. Iazzetta then shut the door for the rest of the way, scattering two hits across his four innings of work and striking out four Bears, earning a save in the process.

New England College split a doubleheader against Salve Regina Sunday afternoon. The Pilgrims took game one 3-2 before falling in the nightcap 7-4, at Bill Beck Field. In the seventh inning of the opener, JD Normand singled home Brady Philibott before Harutaro Takahashi drove in Normand with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. SRU got one run in the bottom of the seventh, but Tim Krol shut the door to register the save. The Seahawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two but New England College would not go quietly. Their late ralley was cut short as the sun fell and the game was called due to darkness after the top of the eighth.

Brevard College (9-5) won the rubber match of a three-game non-conference set against Averett University (2-11), 13-10, on Sunday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. The Tornados scored 13 runs on 19 hits, as Brevard accumulated its second highest hit total of the season and its seventh double-digit hit performance. Everyone in the starting nine for BC had multiple hits in the contest. Jack Atkinson had a career day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs and RBI. Blake Burchett scored a team-high three runs, while Jason Jucker totaled three RBI. Logan Clark and Frankie Vasquez both had extra-base hits, and Burchett stole a career-high three bases. Cesar Rodriguez (1-0) earned his first career win, coming in the contest in the sixth inning and staying in until the final out. Rodriguez, a sophomore left-handed pitcher from Hialeah, Florida, went four innings allowing five runs with a strikeout. Bryce Bowers got the start, going five innings with five earned runs and three strikeouts. Averett also tallied 19 hits in the contest, scoring 10 runs while committing five costly errors.
