Kean's pitching staff combined on a one-hitter to give head coach Neil Ioviero his 750th career win as the Cougars picked up a 6-1 win over Old Westbury on a blustery Friday afternoon. Ioviero improves to 750-328-2 in his 26 seasons, all at Kean University. The Panthers (0-1) got their only run of the day without the aid of a hit in the top of the first but the Cougars (3-1) took the lead for good in the same inning for a 2-1 lead. After that it was all about the piptching staff. Nick Rappa (1-0) earned his first collegiate win of the year after tossing five and a third innings of scoreless relief ball. He struck out seven and walked two, giving up just one single. Starter Nick Nemes struck out three and walked four while allowing one unearned run in his two innings of work. Ryan Kulpa closed out the game with one and two thirds innings of shutout ball, fanning three.

No 16. Lynchburg scored three runs in the first inning and held the lead throughout a 7-2 victory over Wilmington. The Hornets, who finished 36-12 a season ago, jumped on Quaker starter Aaron Boster to the tune of three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning and continue to add runs to take a commanding 7-0 advantage through seven. Ryan Long and Holden Fiedler both had multi-hit games for the Hornets while Riley O'Donovan went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Avery Neaves went 0-for-1, but drew four walks and scored two runs. In the final game of the day in the tournament, An eighth inning rally by the host Piedmont Lions made them victorious on opening night with a 9-7 win over La Verne. The Lions needed three runs in the bottom of the eighth and Kyle Larson delivered with a 2-RBI double to claim the lead.

No. 3 LaGrange (1-0) turned what had been a pitcher's duel into a veritable blowout with a four-run eighth inning as they delivered a late inning 5-0 victory over No. 24 East Texas Baptist (2-2). Despite the final score, both teams would come out in mid-season form with an old school pitcher's duel as the first four innings would feature seven of the eight frames being of the 1-2-3 variety with just one hit. The latter would be by ETBU's Jacob Evangelista leading off the bottom of the first. It would be a completely different story in the top of the eighth, however, as LaGrange showed why they were a College World Series team last year and tabbed to be one of the best this year. The Panthers built an insurmountable 4-0 lead before a pair of fly outs got them out of the inning. The Huntington Hawks increased their record to 2-0 with a 7-5 win over Millsaps in the opened of the BSC tournament.

Texas-Dallas opened the 2023 campaign with a 3-1 win over Texas Lutheran at Katt-Isbel Field. The visiting Comets (1-0) opened the scoring in the top of the third when designated hitter Grayson Coltharp hit a two-out double was knocked in on another double by left fielder Kade Turnage. UTD went up 3-0 in the fourth and was pitching a shutout until the Bulldogs (2-5) got on the board in the seventh. Comet starter Ryan Vera (1-0) went 6.2 innings giving up five hits, one run and two walks while striking out a career-high eight batters to earn the victory. Ben Price allowed two hits and struck out two to finish up the seventh innings and Jake Jennings threw five pitches in a perfect ninth to pick up the save.

The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets won game one of the three game series against the Schreiner Mountaineers, 4-3. Schreiner added a run to the board giving them the lead over the Jackets, 3-2 in the seventh. Kayden Kelley started off the seventh inning with a single to left field, Sam Lampson walked, and Carson Wert was able to beat the throw at first. With bases loaded and two outs, Tanner Benson singled to right center allowing two runs to score, giving HPU the lead 4-3 with two innings left in the game. With Schreiner being unable to score, HPU takes game one of the series, also handing the Mountaineers their first loss of the season.

St. Thomas (Texas) opened up their three-game series against McMurry with a win 3-0. Celt pitching took control, logging 12 strikeouts in the game, from Chris Parsons and Jacob Mead. On the mound for St. Thomas, Chris Parsons had one impressive outing. The second-year pitcher allowed just one hit in the first inning and followed it up with 11 strikeouts to prevent McMurry from coming close to St. Thomas. After eight impressive innings, Jacob Mead came in to finish the job and washed out the Warhawks with a strikeout of his own to end the game securing the 3-0 victory.
