Cortland win solidifies lead in SUNYAC

Adam Mieczkowski went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and five RBI and Dylan Beers allowed one run on five hits over seven innings as Cortland defeated host Plattsburgh, 10-1, in the opening game of a three-game SUNYAC series. Cortland (24-9, 14-2 SUNYAC) remains in first place in the conference, a game and a half ahead of second-place Brockport (12-3). Plattsburgh is now 12-18 overall and 4-9 in the SUNYAC. Cortland and Plattsburgh conclude their series Friday in Plattsburgh with a noon doubleheader. Beers, now 7-1 on the year, struck out four batters and walked one. Zack Zarrilli (Farmingdale) pitched a perfect eighth inning with one strikeout. Mikey Wandell (Newark Valley) issued two walks and hit a batter in the ninth, but he induced a double play grounder after the first two batters reached and he struck out the final hitter to end the game.

No. 23 UW-Stevens Point (21-9) slugged three home runs and drew double-digit walks for the second time in three games in an 11-6 win at Lawrence (10-20) on Thursday. Logan Homolka, Payton Nelson and Trent Van Ess each hit a home run and drove in two runs. Brenden Canterbury had three hits, all singles, with a run scored. Jacob Meinholz struck out five in the start. He went 3.2 innings. Nathan Krommenakker fanned two in 2.2 innings. Tyler Beyer, Bryce Ehr and Sidney Ferry had one strikeout each in relief.

William Paterson (22-13, 9-6 NJAC) outscored Ramapo (20-15, 7-8 NJAC), 15-4, over the final four innings en route to securing a 15-6 New Jersey Athletic Conference road victory. In the bottom of the seventh, Ramapo used four hits to plate three runs and pull within six (12-6). William Paterson loaded the bases in the eighth with no outs before Dan Carter drove in a pair on a two-RBI single to center. Junior Elliot Hayward then hit a sacrifice fly to right to push across the Pioneers' third run of the inning and give William Paterson a 15-6 lead. The Pioneers drew 15 walks as a team. It's the most free passes the Pioneers earned in a game since April 3, 2021 when they walked 15 times in an 18-7 home win against Rutgers-Camden.

St. Olaf College ran its winning streak to four games by sweeping Macalester College by scores of 5-3 and 11-4 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday afternoon at Nicholson Field. St. Olaf (10-13, 5-4 MIAC) trailed 3-2 in the sixth in the opener but scored twice in the sixth and again in the seventh to rally past Macalester (15-15, 7-9 MIAC). The Scots opened up a 3-0 lead early in game two, but the Oles broke a 4-4 fourth-inning tie by scoring the game's final seven runs to finish off their second sweep of the season. St. Olaf's four-game winning streak is the longest active winning streak in the MIAC.

Springfield led from wire-to-wire this afternoon in a 14-11 non-conference final at Dean College. The Pride are now 12-18-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs fell to 8-28 this season. Max Giacco went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate today for Springfield, while Joe Traversa went 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Additionally, Andrew Sweet had a 3-for-5 day with an RBI and three runs, Michael Barrett went 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI and a walk and Luke DiMauro went 2-for-4 with a trio of RBI in the victory. In a bullpen game for Springfield, Michael White earned his first win of the season as he went three innings, allowed four hits and surrendered four runs.

Allegheny split a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Saint Vincent on Senior Day Thursday, winning game one 7-2 before falling 8-0 in game two. A pair of hits and a walk gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but the Gators would take control in the bottom half of the inning. With Dougherty and Schueltz on-base with two outs, Tyson Bryant-Dawson blasted a home run over the right field fence, putting the Gators back in front 4-2. The home run was his eighth of the season. Allegheny produced another three run inning in the eighth to ice the game. After three scoreless innings, the Bearcats assumed control in the fourth inning. They put up seven runs in the frame on six hits, including a grand slam. They added one more run in the fifth to increase the lead to 8-0. The Gators were limited to just three hits in the game. They put runners in scoring positions multiple times but were unable to push any runs across the plate.

No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace clinched a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title and registered its fourth consecutive sweep in OAC play on Thursday, picking up two wins over Capital University at Huntington Park. The Yellow Jackets posted their highest offensive output of the season in an 18-4 victory in game one before completing the sweep with a 9-2 win in game two, extending their winning streak in OAC action to nine games. BW can clinch the OAC regular season title outright and earn the right to host the conference tournament for the first time since 2019 with a win in next week's doubleheader against crosstown rival John Carroll University.

Hope opened a vital three-game series against Calvin with an offensive explosion not seen in 72 years. The Flying Dutchmen erupted for a 19-4 road victory in a shortened seven innings on Thursday, posting their highest-scoring game against the Knights since a 25-11 victory in 1951. Wednesday's 15-run margin of victory was the largest in 190 games between the two rivals. Hope also moved 1 ½ games ahead of Calvin for fourth place in the MIAA standings. The Flying Dutchmen are now 9-7 in league play and 17-16 overall. The Knights are 7-8 in MIAA play and 16-17 overall. Hope never trailed after jumping to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Flying Dutchmen collected 18 hits as they totaled 19 runs for the second consecutive day. Hope defeated Grace Christian, 19-4, on Wednesday in non-league play. Winning pitcher Shane Hykin scattered eight hits and three runs over 5 innings of work. The senior right-hander from Ada, Michigan struck out five and walked one while improving his record to 5-1. It was a career-high fifth win for Hykin.

Second baseman Cam Gilroy delivered a two run double in the bottom of the ninth as Framingham State walked off with a 5-4 victory over Westfield State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action this afternoon at Bowditch Field. The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth trailing by two. Lucas Basile grounded out plating the first run and moved the runners to second and third. Cam Gilroy followed with a walk-off two-run double to left giving the Rams the 5-4 victory. Vincent LoGuidice went seven and a third for the Rams, allowing four runs, three earned on five hits with two strikeouts. Anthony Panza earned the victory in relief going an inning and a third without allowing a hit or a run and striking out four.

The Green Terror celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader against Ursinus. In the first game, the Bears jumped out early and relied on their starting pitcher to win 7-5. In the nightcap, McDaniel earned the split with a 5-1 win. Ryan Kelly held Ursinus hitless through the first four innings of game two, and senior Hunter Kelly hit his first career home run to split the series. In the eighth inning of the opener, Ursinus retook the lead with three runs. Freshman Ben Davis opened the next inning with a double, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Austin Goudeaux, but McDaniel could not overcome the two-run deficit and fell 7-5. Ryan Kelly stepped on the mound to begin game two, and pitched a no-hitter over the first four innings. The Green Terror got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI from Goudeaux. Hunter Darke came into the game and held Ursinus to one run in his inning of work. Leading 5-1, senior Hunter Kelly came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning and connected on a deep shot over the left field fence for his first collegiate home run. Senior Ryan Gibbons pitched the final two innings for McDaniel and locked down the Bears offense including a perfect ninth inning facing just three batters.

Starting pitcher Tommy Moore Jr. tossed a gem for Lebanon Valley on Thursday, playing an integral part in the club's 5-3 victory over Alvernia at McGill Field. The series-opening win is significant for the Dutchmen, as the team clinched home-field advantage in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals and they can clinch the top seed and regular season championship with just one win in Saturday's doubleheader. Moore Jr. set the tone for the contest, dominating the opposition by striking out five batters in eight innings of one-run ball. The right-hander kept LVC (22-15-1, 17-5 MAC Commonwealth) in the ballgame until its lineup put up a five-run fourth inning, which would prove to be enough to take game one of the series against Alvernia (25-13, 15-7 MAC Commonwealth). Center fielder Ryan Murphy was one of several Lebanon Valley batters that had a productive day at the plate, driving in two runs in the game.

Ithaca earned a pair of Liberty League victories over Hobart, 7-0 and 13-9, in what was the first two meetings between the two schools at McDonough Park on Thursday evening. Ithaca is now 22-12 overall and 11-5 in the Liberty League. Kyle Lambert improved to 4-2 on the season as he allowed just two hits and two walks over 7.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to highlight the opener, while Garrett Callaghan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, three runs scored and two home runs. Callaghan continued his onslaught on Hobart pitching in the night cap as he belted two more home runs and drove in four in a 2-for-3 outing with three runs scored. Shashaty collected another two-hit game, while Collin Feeney was 2-for-3 with four runs scored and two walks.

Muhlenberg stayed alive for a Centennial Conference playoff berth with a home sweep of Washington College. The Mules (15-22-1, 8-9) breezed in both games, winning the opener 12-2 and the second game 15-1. It was the first time since 2006 (also against Washington College) that they hit double digits in runs in both ends of a CC doubleheader, and the first time ever that they won by at least 10 runs in both games of a CC twinbill. Muhlenberg is in a cluster of five teams competing for the final three CC playoff berths behind Johns Hopkins and Franklin & Marshall. The Mules need to defeat Ursinus in their Friday matinee at Coca-Cola Park and get some help in order to secure their first playoff berth since 2019.

The Thomas Terriers traveled down to NVU-Lyndon on Thursday to play their final NAC Conference games of the regular season. Thomas came out of both games with a win, first winning a strong 17-9 in game one. Followed by an 8-6 win in game two, with a late surge of runs in the seventh inning from the Hornets. A strong first inning for Terriers came with a high number of runs, seven scored off four Terrier hits including doubles from Cam Haynes, Nick Hutson, and Jason Bartlett, along with five Hornet errors. The Hornets were able to bring in three more runs in the fourth, but the Terriers were too far ahead only bringing it to an eight-run differential, 14-6 Thomas. The Terriers started game two just as they did in game one, multiple runs in the first inning. The Hornets did not let up as they found a two out rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs off three singles and a triple before getting their final out to end the game, final score 8-6 Thomas.

No. 12 Eastern Connecticut State pounded 18 hits in a 16-1 first-game victory, but followed by allowing a season-high 17 hits in the nightcap in a 7-6 loss as the Warriors and Roger Williams split a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. Junior leftfielder Josh Cofrancesco reached five times in the opener for Eastern (27-8) with four hits and a hit-by-pitch, scored three runs and drove in two, and junior leadoff hitter Zach Donahue was a home run shy of the cycle with three hits, drove in three runs and scored two in support of senior righty Nathan Furino, who threw 47 of his 67 pitches for strikes over the first five innings for his fourth win in six decisions. In the second game, Roger Williams (11-20) erased Eastern's early 3-0 lead and later scored the winning run in the top of the ninth when Aidan Hawley singled to open the inning, moved to second on Owen Hibbard's sacrifice bunt and scored on a throwing error while stealing third. It marked Eastern's second 7-6 loss in less than a week and was the second time in three weeks that the Warriors followed a blowout win in the first game of a doubleheader with a close second-game setback.

Playing in their final home games of the regular season, Swarthmore defeated Dickinson in a double header on Thursday, taking the first game 9-2, and the second 7-5. Offensively, the Garnet were powered by sophomore Max Roffwarg and junior Joe Radek. In game one, Roffwarg notched three runs for Swarthmore after drawing three consecutive walks. In game two, Radek's bat came to life, smacking two hits and two RBIs while also crossing home twice. Swarthmore saw a pair of excellent performances from the mound, as both sophomore Liam Alpern and first year Noah Potholm showed up for the Garnet. In game one, Alpern was slinging fire, tossing a career best 12 strikeouts while holding the Devils to just six hits and one earned run over eight innings pitched. In game two, Potholm put up career numbers of his own, striking out nine Dickinson batters while surrendering 11 hits and five earned runs across a complete game pitched.

Penn State Harrisburg reached the 30-win mark thanks to a doubleheader sweep of United East rival Penn State Abington at Alverthorpe Park on Thursday afternoon. The Lions secured a 10-2 win in the opener before closing out the day with an 11-5 victory in the nightcap. Penn State Harrisburg (29-8, 18-1 United East) put up runs in all but two innings of a 10-2 victory over Penn State Abington (17-18, 12-7 United East) in the first outing of Thursday's doubleheader. Matt Parks had a multi-hit game and drove in six runs, while Dallas Hite, Brendan Henn, and Lucas Floyd scored two runs apiece. Fisher Druck earned the win on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. Penn State Harrisburg (30-8, 19-1 United East) won its 30th game of the season with an 11-5 victory at Penn State Abington (17-19, 12-8 United East) in the final outing of Thursday's conference doubleheader. Matt Parks turned in his second straight strong effort, going 3-for-3 with two walks, three RBI, and a run scored. Dallas Hite homered and scored three runs, while Blaine Walitmyer had a three-hit game. Christian Lubic II earned his second win of the spring, going seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits to go along with four strikeouts.

New Jersey City University continued New Jersey Athletic Conference action Thursday as the Gothic Knights hosted Rutgers-Newark. In a game that was relatively a pitchers duel, NJCU topped the Scarlet Raiders 4-2. Jersey City (12-24, 2-13 NJAC) saw senior pitcher Jimmy Vizzoni get the start as he limited the Rutgers-Newark (20-14-1, 4-10-1 NJAC) batting opportunities early. Newark finally woke the bats up in the seventh but a run here and another in the eighth was not enough to overcome the 4-0 lead NJCU put on the board in the first four innings. Vizzoni's 7.0 innings of work was a career high, as he finds himself 2-0 on the season with a remarkable 3.18 ERA. - With his two innings in relief Josh Hernandez tallied his third save of the season, matching his career high total from last season.
