D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its twelfth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the seventh Team of the Week of the 2023 season.

Games of March 27-April 2, 2023

 Logan Gregorio, Fr., Benedictine

Gregorio hit .643 over his three starts, all wins, in a 3-1 weekend for Benedictine, he finished 9-for-14 with six runs, three doubles, two homers and seven RBIs. He slugged 1.286 for the week and reached base at a .667 clip.

1B  Austin Amburgey, Fr., Marietta

Amburgey had a week to remember as he started the week going 6-for-6 with 8 RBI and 1 HR in the win at Wittenberg. His six hits ties the school record for hits in a game. He then got base hits in his first two at bats at Ohio Northern before walking twice and getting hit by a pitch to reach base safely in 11 straight plate appearances. He finished the week batting .846 (11-for-13) with a home run, six runs scored and nine RBIs.

2B  Justin Swanson, Jr., North Park

Swanson went 8-for-11 (.727) for the week with five extra-base hits (two doubles, triple and two home runs) hits on the week with just one strikeout, He was pitched around - drew eight walks in 19 plate appearances. He scored 10 runs and drove in six.

SS  Grant Mitchell, Jr., Wooster

Mitchell hit .667 (8-for-12) over four games for the Fighting Scots. Mitchell logged 11 RBI, six runs, seven walks, two doubles, two triples, and a homer on the week. He hit safely in all four games.

3B  Connor Mayle, Jr., John Carroll

Mayle notched 3 homers on seven hits for the week. He totaling nine RBIs and six runs scored in 12 ABs with a batting average of .583. 

OF  Brett Carson, Sr., Marietta

Carson hit .714 (10-for-14) with eight extra-base hits (four doubles, a triple and three home runs). He had six RBI and eight runs scored.

OF  Howie Hatton, Sr., Crown (Minn.)

Hatton totaled five hits on six at bats (.833) with a home run (1.333 slugging). Hatton added five RBI's and two runs.

OF  Kevin Lehner, Jr., Penn State Harrisburg

Lehner had another massive week at the plate in leading Penn State Harrisburg to four victories. The junior hit two home runs in a mid-week win over Susquehanna and added another in the final victory of the weekend over Gallaudet on Sunday. For the week, the outfielder slashed .600/.667/1.333 with a stout OPS of 2.000 and racked up 20 total bases, three home runs, two doubles, two walks, eight runs, and seven RBI, helping extend the Lions; win streak to 11 games.

DH  Colby Martin, Jr., Shenandoah

Martin had a home run and the save on Sunday versus Virginia Wesleyan. For the week he was 8-for-14 (.571) with eight RBIs and 11 runs score. Five of hit hits were of the extra-base variety - two triples and three home runs.

SP  Michael Aceto, Fr., Trinity (Conn.)

Aceto tossed a two-hit shutout in Trinity's 6-0 win over Colby. He faced one batter over the minimum for nine innings and did not walk a batter with one strikeout.

SP  Matthew Colucci, Gr., Brockport

Colucci's no-hit bid was broken up with two outs in the top of the ninth and he finished the day with 14 strikeouts while allowing just one hit in Brockport's 5-0 win to complete the three game sweep of Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action on Saturday. His 14 strikeouts was a career-high.

SP  Brett Sanchez, Jr., Belhaven

Sanchez became Belhaven's all-time strikeout leader as he surpassed previous mark of 273. He threw a complete game in a seven inning run-rule victory for his third straight complete game win.

SP  Shane Stossel, Jr., Lebanon Valley

Stossel threw a three-hit seven inning shutout in LVC's 12-0 victory in game one of a doubleheader sweep over Albright. The junior struck out 10 Lions including four strikeouts in the third. Stossel struck out the last four hitters of the game and didn't allow a baserunner after a leadoff double in the fifth. The junior was also 2-4 at the plate with five RBI including a fifth inning grand slam.

RP  Jack Bachmore, Sr., Lynchburg

Bachmore logged two saves in two scoreless relief outings, striking out 10 and earning the save in Lynchburg's wins over Hampden-Sydney and Eastern Mennonite
