JACKSON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team came from five runs behind but could not finish the game as they lost, 8-7, to Millsaps on Tuesday night at Twenty Field.

The Majors improved to 5-0, while the Choctaws fell to 1-2.  All three games for MC this season have been decided by one run.

The Choctaws had their most potent offensive effort of the season with seven runs on 14 hits.  Every starter but one finished with at least one hit on the night, led by senior Shane Bennett, who went 3-3 on the evening.

The Majors jumped out in the third inning, scoring five runs on three hits.  The big blow was a two-RBI single by catcher Wes Perkins that scored Jules Roussel and Will Hawkins.

Junior Jeremy Simmons drove in the first run for MC in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly that scored junior MIke Kerdock.

The Choctaws cut the lead to one run in the sixth inning as they scored three runs on one hit and an error by the Majors.  Junior Spencer Brunson tallied an RBI-single, while Bennett produced a sacrifice fly that scored Simmons.

Trey Rountree hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Millsaps a 6-4 lead.

MC put another six-run inning together in the seventh inning, sparked by a solo home run from Kerdock to lead off the inning.  Kerdock finished the game 2-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in.

Senior Stuart Magee doubled in the game-tying run and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Brunson.

The Majors tied the score in the eighth inning after Hawkins doubled to open the frame and scored on an infield single by Drew Respess.

The Choctaws would load the bases in the eighth inning, but Will Elmore struck out Kerdock looking to end the inning and leave three runners on base.  On the night, MC left 18 runners on.

Senior Daniel Cowart entered the game for the Choctaws in the ninth and loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch.  Elmore came to the plate with two outs and walked on four pitches to give the Majors the win.

Junior Scott Trousdale had an impressive outing for MC, going 5.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits.  Junior Ian Underwood held Millsaps at bay with 3.0 strong innings and two strikeouts.

Cowart (0-2) picked up the loss for MC with 0.2 innings pitched and three walks.

Elmore picked up the win for the Majors, pitching the ninth inning and allowing two hits with one walk and the one strikeout.

The top four hitters in the MC lineup (Andy Smith, Magee, Brunson, and Bennett) combined to go 9-20 with four runs scored and four runs batted in.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they face Rhodes College in Memphis at 1:00 p.m.
