More news about: UW-Whitewater

UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Stout twice on Monday in Menomonie, Wisconsin at Nelson Field to take the season series from the Blue Devils 3-1.  The 'Hawks used thirteen hits in each game to secure the victories; 11-5 in game one and 9-5 in game two.  UW-W improves to 18-5 overall and 11-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while Stout falls to 9-15 overall and 4-8 in the conference.

UW-W blew open game one right out of the gates taking a 4-0 lead after Andrew Eichstaedt belted a two-run homer, Ryan Leavitt hit an RBI single into right field, and Jared Fon doubled to plate Leavitt in the top of the first.

Stout came back with a run in the bottom of the first courtesy of the first of five Warhawk errors in the game.

Three more runs in the top of the third extended UW-W's lead to 7-1 and another two in the top of the seventh made it 9-1.

The Devils came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, two scored on errors, but the Warhawks put two more on the board in the top of the ninth to go up 11-4.  Stout scored one more in the bottom of the ninth to bring the final to 11-5.

Daniel Putnam had three hits in the game and knocked in two while three other Warhawks had two hits and Eichstaedt tallied three RBI.

Justin Lambert started game one and earned the win to improve to 3-1 this season.  Lambert gave up just one run on six hits while striking out two.

Game two featured another fast start for the 'Hawks, scoring three in the top of the first, but Stout neutralized the score with three of their own in the same frame.

The 'Hawks scored in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings and Stout was never much of a threat after the first as they scored just two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

There were five Warhawk doubles in game two; two by Putnam, two by Jeff Donovan, and one by Sam Keller.  Donovan leads the team in doubles with 11.

Kyle Lee pitched five innings and earned the win for UW-W to improve to 3-1.  Matthew Roberts and Rob Coe each pitched two innings of relief in the game and each only surrendered one hit and no runs.

Keller went 4-for-5 at the plate on Monday driving in three and scoring three.  He is batting .433 this season.  Putnam has hit safely in all but one game this season, recorded five more hits on Monday, and is leading the team with a .530 batting average.

The Warhawks are off until Wednesday when they host Edgewood College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm at Prucha Field.
