NCAA III Baseball Regional at UW-Whitewater ... Game Two

Following the script set by game one, UW-Whitewater edged the University of Saint Thomas 3-2 in the second game of the Whitewater Regional of  the NCAA III Baseball Championship Tournament Wednesday at Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wisconsin.  Rob Coe's RBI single gave UW-W a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Saint Thomas tied it by combining two hits and a walk with a fielder's choice in the second.  Taylor Rahm hit his second home run of the season to give the Tommies a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but Dylan Friend's RBI single in the bottom of the frame knotted the game at 2-2.  UW-W's Jeff Donovan led off the bottom of the sixth with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored the winning run on Matt Beyer's sacrifice fly to left.  Donovan, the first of a pitching committee for UW-W, started on the mound, but moved to first base after striking out five in the first three innings.  Riley Tincher, 10-4, took over for the next four innings before UW-W used two more pitchers to close it out.  Zach Frank, 3-1, started and went six innings to take the loss for UST.  Frank and reliever Mark Ulrich combined to allow just four hits and two walks.  UW-W, 33-11, will play at 4:00 Thursday, and St. Thomas, 27-17, will face Aurora University, 30-13, at 10:00 Thursday.  Game one Wednesday was decided by the identical score, with UW-Stevens Point defeating Aurora University 3-2 in ten innings.
