Rams Defeat Baruch in Non-Conference Game

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team earned a 6-1 non-conference win over Baruch this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 10-9 on the season, while the Bearcats fell to 5-7.

Sophomore second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the first with a single to left center and stole a pair to bases to reach third with no outs. Sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State ahead 1-0 with an RBI triple to right center scoring Rydzewski. In the Rams next at-bat, freshman designated hitter Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly which scored Alvino and gave Farmingdale State a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, senior catcher Eric Wiener (Deer Park, N.Y.) singled and later scored on a passed ball before Alvino gave the Rams a 4-0 lead with an RBI single to left field.

In the sixth, Farmingdale State took a 5-0 lead after senior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) converted a suicide squeeze which scored McCarthy. The Rams scored their final run of the game on a Justin Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) RBI single up the middle.

Baruch would score their only run in the top of the eighth inning as the Rams won the non-conference game, 6-1.

Alvino was 2-for-4 with a run scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base, while McCarthy was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Rydzewski had two hits, a run scored and stole a pair of bases in the victory.

Junior pitcher James Powers (Jamesport, N.Y.) improved to 4-2 on the year after throwing seven scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out seven.

Farmingdale State next will host Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline doubleheader on Saturday, April 6th at noon.
