A solid pitching performance by LeTourneau University senior Curt Copeland as well as an 11-hit attack led the LeTourneau University baseball team to a 6-0 win over Louisiana College in the ASC opener for both programs.

The YellowJackets (4-0, 1-0 ASC) were led by the solid effort from Copeland, who surrendered just five hits and struck out four against the 29 batters he faced. He got solid support from his teammates at the plate as senior Bryce Griffin went 4-for-5 with three RBI to lead the offensive attack.

The Wildcats (1-3, 0-1 ASC) had four-different players with a hit including Kyle Feazell, who had a team-best two to lead LC. Starting pitcher Miles Holley went four innings, scattering seven hits, four runs –two earned and striking out two in a losing effort.

LeTourneau took a 2-0 advantage in the first inning on a two-RBI single by senior Jared O'Neal for an early lead. The game remained 2-0 until the fourth inning until a sacrifice fly by Sean Sellers and an infield single by Griffin pushed across two more to stretch the lead to 4-0.

The YellowJackets added its final two runs in the sixth when they took advantage of a pair of mistakes by the Wildcats to start the inning. Back-to-back errors set the table for Griffin, who went up the middle for a two-RBI single to stretch the margin to 6-0.

Offensively, LeTourneau's junior Ryan Bertram had three hits and O'Neal and senior Chuck Daugherty each added two hits in the win. Out of the bullpen, senior Jon Riley and sophomore Josh Gimre each pitched an inning of scoreless relief to preserve the shutout.

The two teams will meet up again at 1 p.m. at Conrad-Vernon Field in a twinbill to wrap up the weekend series.
