Pomona-Pitzer Shuts Out Ithaca For Seventh Straight Win

Claremont, Calif. - Senior Jake Bruml threw seven shutout innings as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team won its seventh game in a row with a 7-0 win over Ithaca on Monday at Alumni Field. 

With the win, the Sagehens are now 13-3 on the year, while Bruml improves to 3-0 on the mound with his third straight quality start, including a shutout in a 3-0 win over Redlands. Ithaca falls to 0-2 with the loss. 

Pomona-Pitzer got most of its offense in the third inning, as sophomore catcher Kevin Jordan had an RBI single to start the scoring. After a bunt single from senior shortstop Sam Fox led to a throwing error that brought home another run, sophomore center fielder Tanner Nishioka added an RBI double. After an error kept the inning alive, senior third baseman E.J. Lopez added an RBI single to cap off the inning.

Junior first baseman Simon Rosenbaum added an RBI single to drive in senior right fielder Mark Okuma, who reached on a double, and Bruml had a bases loaded walk to close out the Pomona-Pitzer scoring. 

Jordan finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Sagehen offense, while Fox was 3-for-5 and senior second baseman Kenny Rabin was 2-for-4. Junior Cameron Yen threw the last two innings to combine for the shutout with Bruml. 

Pomona-Pitzer will next be in action when it faces La Verne in a three-game SCIAC series this weekend, beginning with a single game at La Verne on Friday and then culminating in a doubleheader at Alumni Field on Saturday.
