More news about: Millikin

The Millikin baseball team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University 7-6 on a walk off bases loaded single by freshman Julian Gutierrez on April 12 at Sunnyside Field in Decatur, Illinois.  The win broke the Titans 27 game winning streak against Millikin.  The last Big Blue win in the series came on April 4, 2006.

The Titans scored one run in the first inning, but the Big Blue answered with three runs in the second inning to make it a 3-1 advantage.  The Titans quickly tied the game with two runs in the third and took the lead with two runs in the fourth.  Millikin battled back all game scoring single runs in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Gutierrez homered in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 6-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, Seth Coffey started the Millikin rally with a single.  Jake Stanton then followed with a base hit up the middle.  Erik Schurtz was hit by a pitch to load the bases and bring Gutierrez up to the plate.  Gutierrez worked the count to 3-2 before drilling the game winning hit down the right field line.  The rally was pulled off by all Big Blue freshmen.

Schurtz had a run scoring single for Millikin's run in the seventh and Lucas Stefan and an RBI base hit in the sixth inning.  Millikin's three run second inning featured an RBI hit by pitch by Joey DiLeo and a two run single by freshman Kaleb Krigbaum.

Gutierrez ended the day going 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Schurtz collected three hits.  Krigbaum and Stefan each had two hits.

Ben Peters earned the win in relief.  Peters held the Titans to just one hit in two innings while striking out four.

Tim Coonan was 3-5 for Illinois Wesleyan with an RBI.  Adam Glogovsky also had three hits and an RBI.  Jarrod Justiewicz, Pat Mollo and Nick Huskisson each had two hits.

Millikin is now 12-14, 4-8 while the Titans go to 18-7, 9-3.

Millikin will host Greenville College on Tuesday, April 14 at 6 p.m.
