Tornados Triumph 9-2 Over Cru; Clinch ASC Regular-Season Title

BELTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas Tornados earned a 9-2 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor Sunday afternoon and clinched the regular-season title and the overall No. 1 seed in the ASC Baseball Championship Series.

Jake Valadez struck out nine over the course of five innings of relief work for the victory. Valadez allowed three hits but did not surrender a walk or a run.

Michael Evan was 4-for-5 with three RBI, leading the CTX offense.

The Tornados (27-13, 19-5 ASC) struck first on Bret Leiferman's sacrifice fly.

The Cru took a 2-1 lead after a solo homer followed by an RBI single in the fourth, but Concordia came right back on Evan's two run double in the top of the fifth. It proved to be the game-winning hit.

CTX exploded for four more insurance runs in the top of the sixth and two more in the seventh.

The Tornados await official word on who they will face Friday night in their opening game of the ASC Baseball Championship Series. First pitch is at 7 p.m. at Tornado Field.
