UMHB falls to Concordia in season finale

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team could not hold on to an early lead as the Cru fell to Concordia Texas 9-2 in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday in Belton. UMHB closes out the year at 11-28 overall and 6-18 in American Southwest Conference play. Concordia improves to 27-13 overall and 19-5 in the ASC on the year.

The Tornados grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and it would stay that way into the bottom of the fourth. Chase Burrow led off the inning with a solo homer to right field and Will Stafford added an RBI single to give UMHB a 2-1 lead. Michael Evan's two-run double put Concordia on top 3-2 in the top of the fifth and the Tornados added four more runs in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh to account for the final margin.

Casey Frazier took the loss for the Cru to drop to 1-2 on the season. Burrow, Stafford, Seth Martin and Cody Stone all had two hits apiece for UMHB. Trey Pledger earned the win for the Tornados and Jake Valadez notched his first save of the year. Evan had four hits and three RBI to lead the Concordia offensive attack.

The game closes out the season for UMHB and also ends the careers of four Cru seniors: Mikey Bielamowicz, Burrow, Cory Farr and Stafford. Concordia clinches the ASC regular season title with the victory and will be the #1 seed when the ASC Championship Tournament begins next week.
