Thomas More Defeats No. 21 Marietta, 10-3, On The Road

(MARIETTA, Ohio) – The Thomas More College baseball team went on the road today (Sunday, March 25, 2018) and defeated 21st-ranked Marietta College, 10-3, in a non-conference game at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-7 on the season.  With the loss, the nationally-ranked Pioneers fall to 11-4.

Thomas More scored two in the first, two in the third, five in the fifth and one in the eighth and held Marietta to one run in the first, third and sixth inning for the 10-3 victory.

First-year pitcher Jordan Houze (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) kept the Pioneer batters in check has he pitched a complete game and gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out four for the win.

At the plate, Thomas More had five Saints have multiple hits in the game, including four with three hits.  Junior first baseman Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was three-for-five with a home run, a double, three runs batted-in and three runs scored.  Junior catcher Sam Hauer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-five with a RBI and two runs scored, senior third baseman Tyler Smith (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was three-for-five with two RBI and a run scored and junior right fielder Joshua Boeckmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-four with a run scored.  Junior shortstop Jacob Whitford (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) was two-for-five with two RBI and a run scored.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Tuesday (March 27) when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio for a non-conference game with traditional rival Wilmington College.  First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.
