NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior right-hander Cam Furman (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings with three hits and four strikeouts, and the Yellow Jackets scored in each of the final five innings as the 23rd-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team blanked No. 18 Christopher Newport 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • After stranding a pair in the first, the Yellow Jackets broke through in the top of the third. Junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) had a leadoff single, stole second and scored on a base hit by senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) to give RMC a 1-0 advantage.
  • In the fifth, Bush again started the inning with a single and eventually came home on a double play to make it 2-0.
  • RMC added a run in the sixth. Sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) had a leadoff single, went to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) to give the visitors a 3-0 edge.
  • The Yellow Jackets plated another in the seventh. Junior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on a double by sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) as the lead grew to 4-0.
  • One inning later, junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had a two-out single and scored on an error to make it 5-0.
  • RMC tallied its final run in the ninth. Junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Lubsen to push the lead to 6-0.
