    Salem, Mass. -- Salem State claimed its third Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Baseball Championship with a 16-8 win over Mass Maritime on Sunday afternoon at the Central Campus Baseball Field. Richard Fecteau (Newbury, MA) proved to be the difference maker, hitting two home runs in the title clinching game. Fecteau batted .800 (12-15) with three home runs, two doubles, eight runs and a 1.533 slugging percentage over the three-day tournament to earn MVP honors. Mass Maritime forced a second game on Sunday, after coming-from-behind to win game one of the double elimination tournament with a 6-5, extra-inning victory. Salem State is headed to their sixth NCAA Tournament, which will begin on May 18th at a predetermined NCAA regional site.

    Salem, Mass. -- Matt Abrain (Northbridge, MA) threw a complete game shutout as the No. 1 seed Vikings of Salem State defeated the No. 2 seed Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy 6-0 in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Postseason Baseball Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Central Campus Baseball Field. Salem State (22-17-1) advances to the championship round for the fourth straight season, which will be held at Salem State beginning at noon tomorrow. They will face No. 2 seed Mass Maritime, which defeated No.4 seed Westfield State 6-3 in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon.

The top seeded Vikings will play second seed Mass Maritime at 12:30 pm tomorrow in the winner's bracket. The fourth seeded Owls will play in an elimination game tomorrow morning at 9:30 am against third seeded Fitchburg State.

    FITCHBURG, Mass. - Salem State clinched their fourth straight, and second outright Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season championship on Saturday with a 13-6 game one victory over Fitchburg State at Riccards Field. The Falcons avoided the sweep, defeating the Vikings 7-2 in game two of the twin-bill. Salem State (19-17-1; 12-2), the defending tournament champion, will host the 2016 MASCAC Baseball Postseason Tournament beginning Friday. The Vikings close the 2016 regular season schedule with an away game with Gordon College with first-pitch slated for 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday.

However, the Vikings earned as split, as they came back behind a complete game effort from Sean Buckland (Lynn, MA) and four RBI from Mike Davis (Peabody, MA) and took game two, 5-1. Salem State is now 16-11 on the season and 5-3 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Owls go to 17-6, and 4-4 in conference.

    Salem, Mass. – Mike Richardson (Belmont, Mass.) fired a no-hitter to lead Salem State to a 1-0 victory in the first game of a MASCAC doubleheader against Framingham State on Tuesday afternoon. Richardson struck out six while allowing only one Framingham State player to reach base – Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) – with a third inning walk. Framingham State bounced back in game two behind the arm of Zach Kirby (Rochester, Mass.), who fired a complete game, four-hit shutout, as the Rams blanked the Vikings 2-0.

The Vikings, who are currently ranked fifth in New England, won their eighth straight game and improve to 12-5. The Beacons meanwhile, slip to 9-8.

    Salem, Mass. -- The Vikings of Salem State swept a doubleheader from the Bridgewater State Bears 5-1, and 4-3 on Friday afternoon in the MASCAC opener for both teams. In game one, Cato LaCroix (Hamilton, MA) pitched a stellar six innings, giving up five hits and just one run to earn the win. In game two, Salem State and Bridgewater State went extra innings before Richard Fecteau (Newbury, MA) knocked in Kevin Carens (Northborough, MA) with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth. Salem State is now 11-5, 2-0 after winning their seventh straight. Bridgewater State slips to 3-9, 0-2.
