D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its ninth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the third Team of the Week of the 2020 season.

Games of February 24- March 1, 2020

C  Jacob Greene, Sr., Emory

Greene drove in a team-high 10 runs helping the Eagles to a 3-1 week against Piedmont and Covenant. Greene batted 6-for-14 with seven runs, a stolen base, two doubles, a triple and home run in his four starts. He led all Emory batters with a .929 slugging percentage and was second with a .500 on-base percentage. All 10 of his RBI came in two wins, first driving in five on Friday at the Scots before equaling the mark in the finale game of the Covenant series.

1B  Richard Fontanillas, Jr., Immaculata

Fontanillas drove in seven runs and scored four to help lead Immaculata to split with nationally-ranked Shenandoah. He had four hits in seven at-bats for a .571 average. With a double and three home runs, his slugging topped at 2.000.

2B  Daniel Shepherd, Sr., Hood

Shepherd led Hood to a 3-0 week, going 5-of-8 (.625) at the plate with two walks and a sacrifice fly. Shepherd went a perfect 6-for-6 on stolen bases, drove in six runs and scored three times.

SS  Hunter Christian, So., Covenant

Christian batted .545 (6-for-11) with a home run, four RBIs, five runs scored, and three walks in a 1-3 week for the Scots. With two extra-base hits, he slugged .909 on the week.

3B  Jared Booth, Jr., Grinnell

Booth hit a sizzling .667 as the Pioneers split with Buena Vista in four games over the weekend. He was 8-of-12 at the plate with three doubles, one homer, three RBIs and four runs scored. Booth had a .692 on base percentage and 1.167 slugging percentage.

OF  Garrett Callaghan, Jr., Ithaca

Callaghan hit .700 (7-for-10) in two games this weekend with six runs scored, five RBI, three doubles, two stolen bases and a home run.

OF  Derek Hurt, Sr., Maryville (Tenn.)

Hurt led Maryville to a three-game sweep of Huntingdon who entered the series with a 7-1, 3-0 USAS record. He batted 10-for-15, slashing .667/..750/1.000. He drove in six, scored nine and stole five bases.

OF  Sean Robinson, Jr., Washington (Mo.)

Robinson hit .889 (8-for-9) with four walks, five runs scored and five RBI in a three-game series sweep of Illinois Tech in St. Louis. Robinson reached base in his final 12 plate appearances, with four walks and a hit in each of his last eight at-bats.

DH  Troy Tucci, Sr., Rockford

Tucci had a monster weekend at the plate and was a key piece to Rockford starting the season 4-0.  For the week, Tucci hit .615 (8-for-13) with a 1.154 slugging percentage, talling four doubles, a home run, six runs batted in, seven runs scored, and two stolen bases.

SP  Ryan Boyer, Sr., Pitt.-Bradford

Boyer threw his second straight two-hit shutout for Pitt-Bradford in a 9-0 victory over Wells. Boyer struck out 13 batters without allowing a walk. He pitched the final five innings of the game without allowing a hit. This was the second straight two-hit shutout for Boyer who has struck out 33 batters in 18 innings pitched.

SP  Zack Jones, Sr., Rockford

Jones was nearly perfect in his debut this season against Central (Iowa). Jones did not allow a hit over his five shutout innings, and picked up the win to move to 1-0 this year. He finished with nine strikeouts, including striking out five of the first six batters he faced.

SP  Brendan Ward,  Sr., Lebanon Valley

Ward tossed a complete-game shutout to help Lebanon Valley sweep Northland to open up 2020 spring break action in Florida. The senior threw all seven innings and allowed just a pair of hits while striking out 10 of the 22 batters he faced and didn't walk a batter.

SP  Garrett West, So., Berry

West threw a complete-game (7-inning run-rule) no-hitter against Oglethorpe this weekend to lead Berry to a series sweep of the Stormy Petrels. He allowed no earned runs and struck out four.

RP  Tim Tague, Jr., Washington (Mo.)

Tague picked up the win in relief after tossing four scoreless innings without allowing a hit in a 10-0 win over Illinois Tech Sunday in the final game of the three-game series. Tague struck out six and walked one, and has not allowed a hit in four innings pitched this season.
