Openers continue on Sunday

St. John Fisher jumped out to a 6-1 lead and held on for an 8-7 win over SUNY Purchase on Sunday in the season opener for both teams at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ. Starting pitcher Justin D'Amato pitched 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts, but was tagged for four runs.  Jordan Doroshenko pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Alvernia opened their season with a 5-4 win at Washington and Lee. Baldwin-Wallace made it two wins in two days with a second straight win over Sewanne State.

Joe Sigismondi doubled home pinch-runner Nicco Esgro in the bottom of the eighth inning, moments after New Paltz State had tied the game, to give Rutgers-Camden a 4-3 victory at the Ty Cobb Classic.

Doug Scherer pitched seven scoreless innings as the Panthers took the first game of a USA South doubleheader with N.C. Wesleyan, 3-0. It was Jake Swartout's turn in game two as he scattered seven hits 5.1 innings in a 7-0 win for the Bishops. Ciro Norzagaray pitched the final 3.2 innings for his second save of the season.

Lynchburg rode the arm of sophomore Martin Henderlite in game two to split a doubleheader with York, dropping game one 7-4, before winning the second game 3-0.

Morgan Rupp hit a walk-off home run in the opener while both Jon Carlson and Trevor Mears drove in a pair of runs in game two as Wesley took a pair of games from Gallaudet in the Wolverines season opener at Bob Reed Field.  Wesley won the first game, 5-4, before erupting for a 9-3 victory in game two.

Wendell Rodriguez and Alex Weinstein combined for a 10-inning, nine-hit shutout and NJCU scored twice in the top of the 10th to outlast Centenary (NJ), 2-0, in game one of a non-conference  doubleheader at Diamond Nation.

Neumann swept a pair of games at Virginia Wesleyan, 5-3 and 4-0. In the first game the Knights scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead and the eventual win. In game two, Mike Dicken pitched the complete game for the win, striking out five in the 4-0 shutout.

St. Mary's (Md) ruined Widener's season-opener as the Seahawks swept the visiting Pride in St. Mary's home-opener at the Hawk's Nest. St. Mary's posted a come-from-behind 7-6 win in the first half of the twin bill and followed that up with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

Stevens picked up its second win of the season with a 9-4 triumph over CCNY at the Dobbelaar Field. Nine different hitters recorded a hit, while seven pitchers combined to strikeout 13 CCNY batters.

Led by a combined 7-for-8 at the plate by Matthew Zeller and Josh Rapacz, George Fox collected 15 hits and doubled the number of runs scored by Pacific for an 8-4 victory in their final game in the Cascade/Northwest Conference Baseball Challenge at Morse Field.

Sul Ross scored six runs in the third inning to fuel a 13-5 victory over Simpson at the Ozarks Classic at Lonnie Qualls Field. Josh Vasquez finished 4 of 6 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Dakota Dill was 2 of 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
