Cortland splits with Salisbury

No. 4 Cortland State and No. 9 Salisbury traded 4-3 wins in a test of both programs. The Red Dragons rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth in a 4-3 win in the nine-inning opener.  Bobby Sanzone lined a single to center field to score Kyle Hayman from second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Salisbury salvaged a doubleheader split against Cortland State.

Nick Bunce powered Brockport State to a 7-5 victory over No. 7 Kean on Sunday. Brockport scored five runs in the top of the ninth to come from behind in the season-opener. Bunce finished the day scoring two runs after going 2-for-5 at the plate, both hits going for doubles. Pete Wilson also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with one run scored on the day. Brockport defeated Baruch 4-2 in the afternoon.

Birmingham-Southern used two eighth inning rallies to earn wins over North Park and Transylvania at Striplin Field.  The Panthers claimed a 6-5 win over North Park and defeated Transylvania 2-1.

Webster solid starting and relief pitching, and a little go-go Gorlok offense to take a twinbill from Rhodes , 8-4 and 7-3.  The wins, in Memphis, Tenn. showcased the abundant talent Webster has returning from its 2012 squad as well as the new talent in the mix for 2013.

Keystone opened the 2013 season by sweeping a pair of games from Dickinson in non-conference doubleheader played in New Market, MD.  The Giants, ranked 12th in the country,  pulled out an 11-7 win in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader before cruising to a 9-1 victory in the nightcap. 

Austin Chrismon had a program record 18 strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to Greensboro.

Greensboro rode the arm of John Atkins, and defeated Christopher Newport 2-1. Atkins threw seven strong innings before handing it over to the bullpen to finish out the game.

Rose-Hulman opened the 2013 baseball season with an 8-6 win over nationally ranked Farmingdale State to open the team's six-game Florida trip. Farmingdale State will looking for their first win against Rochester Tech and  Rose-Hulman will face Alma on Monday.

No. 23 Shenandoah ran its baseball winning streak to four games with a non-league doubleheader sweep over Susquehanna. Shenandoah was 5-4 and 6-5 winners over the Crusaders. Both wins came in walk-off fashion as junior Andrew Creamer delivered a bases loaded single in the opener before freshman John Wilt did the same in the nightcap.

Trinity (Texas) Tigers used a four-run seventh inning to cap a 7-5 come-from-behind victory over Austin. The win also gave Trinity the three-game series win to open conference play.

The second ranked Tommies opened their 2013 season with a 3-0, 8-3 sweep of Coe  at the Metrodome. Three Tommie pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and UST's had no errors in the field. In game one, junior All-America Steve Maher threw a three-hit shutout of the Kohawks. Junior Tim Kuzniar's two-run double in the fourth snapped a scoreless tie. Senior DH Dylan Thomas added a sacrifice fly. In game two, UST had a rare Metrodome night with three home runs, solo shots by junior Ryan Gerber, Thomas and Kuzniar. Senior Jon Kinsel drove in three runs and had three of UST's 12 hits.
