Top seeds win in NJAC, Kean too

The top two seeds in the NJAC tournament won on Tuesday as only Kean was the lower seed to come out a victor in the six team tournament. On campus sites it was top seeded Rutgers-Camden with a 4-0 win over William Paterson. Rowan squeaked past The College of New Jersey 7-6, while Kean posted the second shutout of the day with a 5-0 win over Montclair State.

No. 8 Heidelberg jumped out to an early lead and coasted to an 11-6 victory over Wittenberg. The win was the 30th of the season for the Student Princes, the ninth time since 2000 that Heidelberg has had 30+ wins.

WPI senior relief pitcher Sam Miraglia earned the win for second straight day as WPI closed out the 2014 season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Brandeis on a crisp afternoon in Waltham.  The Judges tied the game in the top of the ninth, but the Engineers scored in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Occidental lost a must-win game at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-1, ending its season one win short of the SCIAC Postseason tournament. Occidental finishes the year tied for fifth at 14-14 in SCIAC play while La Verne, one of the teams tied with the Tigers at the beginning of the day, beat Caltech 21-2 to jump one game ahead and secure the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.

Junior designated hitter Dean Beshansky went 2-for-5 with two RBI as Rhode Island College lost, 9-3, to Salve Regina in the Anchormen's home finale at Anchormen Field. Dominic Di Sano was the game's offensive star, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and a walk.

Wheaton (Ill.) offense pounded out 14 hits including five extra base hits en route to an 11-1 run-rule victory over Benedictine at Lee Pfund Stadium. The teams will meet again on Wednesday night at 6 PM at Benedictine.

Wheaton (Mass.) junior infielder Justin Peluso delivered a walk-off, bases loaded infield single to propel the Lyons past UMass Boston, 5-4, in 12 innings at Sidell Stadium in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

he Springfield College baseball team picked up a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win on Thursday, beating visiting Emerson, 12-2 on Berry-Allen Field.

Springfield was led by the bats of Keith Cotnoir (Westhampton, Mass.), Jared Hopkins (Cranston, R.I.) and Shane O'Leary (Kings Park, N.Y.) in the win. Cotnoir drove in three runs while Hopkins and O'Leary drove in two each. Frank Calabrese (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Steve Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) each tallied two hits.

Tyler Kelly (Absecon, N.J.) earned the win on the mound in his first collegiate start for the Pride. Kelly went five innings, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out four.
