Freshman Jordan Clark tossed seven quality innings and delivered a run-scoring single as Franklin recorded its first victory of the 2016 season with a 5-1 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday. The Grizzlies concluded their season-opening Florida trip with two games decided by one run and another two-run contest.
Caleb Bloye and Trenton Nobles combined for five hits and five RBIs as Covenant picked up a 7-5 non-conference win over Sewanee. Covenant has won three of its last four games
Mount Union freshman Phil Mary pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in his first collegiate start as the Purple Raiders split a pair of games with Alma in Florida. The Purple Raiders won game on 5-0 and lost the second 4-3. Mary struck out 12 hitters and took a perfect game into the sixth inning before he hit batter then surrendered a single but he came right back and allowed just one more hit in the win.
Drew won its first game of the young 2016 season, 8-4, at William Paterson with a complete team effort featuring hits by nine different Rangers. Ryan Sabbaq finished a triple short of the cycle with his first career home run, a double and two singles. He finished 4-for-5 with a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning. Bobby Miskura batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
The fourth-ranked Trinity Tigers scored a convincing 11-1 victory over Concordia-Texas. Trinity (10-2) won its eighth straight game and swept the season series with the Tornados. Jose Santos set the tone of the game with a two-run homer in the three-run first inning, his second four-bagger of the season. The Tigers added a pair of runs in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Colin Serkowski. Carter McEachern drove in a run in the fourth, and then smacked an RBI double in the sixth. Trinity scored four runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of four Concordia errors.
Al Steindel made the most of his first career start in a Messiah uniform. In a 5-3 victory over the Dickinson Red Devils, Steindel went a perfect 4-4 from the plate, delivering a three-run home run in the top of the eighth to give Messiah the lead they would hold until the final out.
Third-ranked Emory improved to 10-2 on the season, defeating No. 21 Berry 4-3. The teams played through heavy rainfall for a majority of the contest and following a rain delay of almost an hour in the middle of the eighth inning, the game was called official. Kyle Monk was awarded the win, his first of the season, after working 2.2 scoreless innings. He walked two and gave up one hit but struck out two.
Justin Marks hit a first-inning grand slam and freshman hurler Anthony Rosoline tossed six excllent innings as Rutgers-Newark rolled to an 11-1 win over Penn State-Abington. Rosoline went six innings, striking out three and walking two. He allowed five hits and just one earned run, improving to 2-0 on the young 2016 campaign.

Swarthmore improved to 3-0 with a convincing 10-2 win over nonconference opponent Centenary (N.J.) at the Diamond Nation complex. Ryan Burnett finished with two doubles and four RBIs along with two stolen bases. Joseph Jackson hit the team's second home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall, and scored once for the visitors. Swarthmore pitched by committee with Griffin Kammerer picking up the win as the pitcher of record.
Andy Kelley went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs while Rich Power and Eric Brown combined on a seven-hit shutout, leading Gettysburg to a 12-0 victory in its season opener over Hood. The Bullets piled up 17 hits, with Henry Klimowicz also enjoying a big season debut. Making his first career start at first base, he went 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Otterbein swept a three-game series with North Central (Minn.) to continue its spring-break trip, outscoring the Rams 65-5 over the trio of seven-inning contests. Otterbein set a new school-record for most runs scored in a single game during Tuesday's 33-3 win, opening a 13-0 lead after three innings before plating 12 runs in the fourth. The Cardinals sent 17 hitters to the plate in the frame.
Hampden-Sydney handed Christopher Newport its first loss on the year, defeating the Captains 5-2 behind strong pitching. Freshman Jimmy Butler picked up the win after allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings. Matthew Metheny and Dylan Gonzales each threw a shutout inning in relief, and Zach Perkins picked up the save after getting the final three outs of the game.
Texas-Dallas took advantage of six errors as the Comets rolled to a 9-2 road win over Austin. The Comets (5-3) turned early Roo miscues into a quick 4-0 lead and never needed to worry as they earned their second second straight victory. Texas-Dallas will open ASC play this weekend with a three-game home series against Hardin-Simmons.
Oglethorpe scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning at Anderson Field to come back and defeat the visiting LaGrange Panthers 7-6. Junior third baseman Austin Ferlita ripped a 2-run single to right field to provide the game-winning hit and improve the Stormy Petrels to 6-2 on the young season.
