Endicott halts Cortland

Endicott handed No. 1 Cortland St. their first loss of the 2016 season via an 8-3 decision at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Will Ferreira tossed five innings with six strikeouts to earn a premiere victory for the Endicott program.

The 17th ranked Mary Washington Eagles rapped out 13 hits en route to a 9-5 victory at eighth-ranked Shenandoah in Winchester, Va. Mitch Moynihan led the Eagles with a triple and two singles.

On a day when both the Rutgers-Camden and Washington (Mo.) program earned their way into two Division III national polls, both teams took early turns at giving away unearned runs at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The high-powered Scarlet Raptor offense finally broke into gear with a seven-run seventh inning to snap a 2-2 tie, and Rutgers-Camden went on to defeat the St. Louis-based Bears, 13-3.

Kean stunned #10 Salisbury with an eight run seventh inning to defeat the Sea Gulls by the final of 11-3 in non-conference action. Southpaw Richie Ferguson earned the win with the complete game effort.  Ferguson allowed three runs and eight hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Washington & Jefferson split a nonconference doubleheader with La Roche, winning the first game 7-2 before dropping the nightcap 8-6, in its final action before heading to Florida for six games during Spring Break.

William Paterson posted eight runs during the top of the first inning, then held on down the stretch for a 9-8 victory against RPI at the Central Florida Invitational. Freshman Chris Babb made his first career start, allowing three unearned runs and six hits over 5.0 innings, striking out two and walking four.

Manhattanville bats exploded behind a huge performance from freshman Luke Scoggins as the Valiants took down Anderson Hill Road rival Purchase College 18-3.

Earlham batted around and them some in a nine-run third inning propelling the Quakers to a 17-2 win over Norwich in seven innings. After two scoreless innings, Earlham cashed in during the third inning. The Quakers tallied three hits, drew two walks, were hit by four pitches, and used one error to score nine runs. Senior Thomas Rea provided the pop, hitting a grand slam to left field, his second home run of the season.

loss to Skidmore

Ithaca notched a five-run ninth inning to come away with a 9-5 victory at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Arce Field in Claremont, Calif.

After falling out of the Top 25, Berry traveled to Covenant and sent the Scots to a 3-2 defeat. In the ninth, Berry's Hunter White led off with a single and his pinch-runner Leo Narrison later scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Covenant was set down in order in its half of the ninth by Berry reliever JP Chamblee.

Misericordia won its fourth straight game, 7-3, at Wesley. Alec Iurato  had two hits and two RBI and while Chris Boroch and Miles Westrich both had two hits and drove in a run. Tim Burek  scattered eight hits over 5.2 innings to earn the win.

Nichols defeated Lasell 28-5 at the Centurylink Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Florida. The Bison broke a 51 year-old program-record by scoring 28 runs in the game, including 20 runs over the last four frames. Nichols had 14 different student-athletes earn a hit in the game with Cam Cook leading the way with his 3-for-4 performance with five RBI and three runs scored.

Bowdoin opened the 2016 season with a two-game sweep of Utica, capturing a 5-3 win in the opener followed by an 8-1 victory in game two.

In non-conference action at Captains Park, the 15th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains stranded a season-high 14 runners and suffered an 8-5 setback to Stevenson. Stevenson took an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first three innings, and never looked back.

King's (Pa.) sophomore Sean Padden was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs to lead the Monarchs to a 10-5 victory over visiting Summit in the team's home opener at Lipo Field. Padden knocked in five runs and was just a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
