Don't mess with Texas

The Concordia Texas Tornados won 2-1 over Concordia Chicago thanks in part to a pair of thrilling defensive plays at the plate in the top of the ninth on Sunday afternoon at Tornado Field. The Tornados entered the top of the ninth up 2-1, but Concordia Chicago threatened with runners at the corners and nobody out. Justin Traxler made an outstanding shovel pass with his glove to Gareth Hutton to prevent the Cougars from tying up the ballgame. Following a Traxler strikeout,  Hutton was on both ends of a 2-3-2 caught stealing to catch the tying run at the plate for the third and a CTX victory.

The seventh ranked Southern Maine Huskies took advantage of three hits, a hit batsman and an infield error to score four times in the second inning en route to a 5-3 victory over St. Scholastica Saints in non-conference baseball action at Lake Myrtle Field #8.

Will Martel went the distance, Jack Brancheau was 3-for-4 with an RBI-double and Occidental won its 13th game in a row with a 4-1 win over Rutgers-Newark. The Tigers earn their fourth three-game sweep in a row and is sitting in first place in the SCIAC race.

Franklin starter Christian Sullivan recorded six strikeouts in a complete-game victory to lift the Grizzlies to a 7-5 victory over Capital at John P. McDowell Field. Adrian scored multiple runs in four innings to pick up a 14-3 triumph in the second game.

A bases loaded walk by Derek Hullings gave  Sewanee a 3-2 win over SAA No. 3 ranked Birmingham-Southern at historic Montgomery Field. The victory is Sewanee's highest ranked win against a nationally-ranked team in program history.

Following a narrow victory in game two on Saturday, Trinity (Texas) head coach Tim Scannell was clear that he expects more from his team. The No. 2 Tigers responded with a 7-0 win to sweep the three game SCAC series from Dallas.

Alex Rozak combined with two relievers on a four-hit shutout, while William Keane and Kevin Troy each rapped out three hits to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 7-0 non-league victory over Emerson at Campanelli Stadium.

Taylor Serrano and the rest of Clark is off to their best start in years and have not been above .500 ths late in the season in six years.

Behind a pair of outstanding pitching performances, Clark swept Brandeis on a chilly Granger Baseball Diamond. Patrick Robinson was excellent on the mound for the Scarlet and White, tossing a complete game four-hitter in moving to 2-0 on the season. Taylor Serrano allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings. Joshua Dobratz came in and tossed the final two innings for the Cougars, retiring all six batters he faced to secure the sweep. In addition to its stellar pitching, the Scarlet and White saw sophomore sensation Kyle Bonicki extend his hitting streak to ten games.

The Castleton Spartans produced a pair of comeback, extra-inning wins this afternoon to sweep the Coast Guard Bears in a two-game, non-conference set at Nitchman Field. With the victories, Castleton climbs back to .500 at 6-6 overall, whereas Coast Guard moves to 6-7 on the year after losing their third consecutive game.

Old Westbury collected 6-1 and 6-0 non-conference wins over the visiting SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Panthers outhit SUNY Oneonta 17-12 in the two games but took advantage of their offensive chances while keeping the Red DRagons off balance all day.

Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the lead with a three-run second inning and then held on for a 4-3 victory over the University of the Ozarks in Belton. Casey Frazier scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in seven innings for UMHB to earn the win. Will Stafford and Riley Davis had three hits apiece to lead the Cru.

Pacific Lutheran pushed across four runs in the final three innings and Kyler Blades' ninth inning RBI single secured a 5-4 victory and series sweep over Whitman.  Drew Oord led off the ninth inning with a single to left field and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Landon Packard. A Cole Johnson walk and Tyler Thompson hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Blades.
