Davis Mikell smashed a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning and tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings on the mound to help lead Castleton to a season-opening 6-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. Mikell, Dillon Benham, Jonathan Lindau, and Matt Braman each recorded a hit apiece in the win. Aaron Smith scattered six hits and two unearned runs over 3.0 innings of relief to pick up the victory on the mound for the Spartans.
Catholic opened the 2018 season in style as it earned two wins over Cabrini, with both coming in the bottom of the seventh on walk-off hits, 3-2 and 6-5. In game one, senior Brennan Cotter ripped an RBI single to walk off with win No. 1 before senior Jack Hennessy added an RBI single of his own to close out the second victory. Catholic pitchers combined for 22 strikeouts in the two games.

Washington University dropped a pair of games in Conway, Ark. falling 14-4 to No. 22 Texas-Dallas and 3-2 to Hendrix in extra innings at Warriors Field. A six run sixth for the Comets was fueled by four Washington errors and broke game one open for Texas-Dallas. The Bears added three in the eighth but Texas-Dallas responed with four runs for a run-ruled victory. Hendrix came out of the gate with tough intensity as they took one from the Bears by a score of 3-2 in ten innings. The Hendrix offense totaled eight hits in the game for their first win of the young season.
Taking on No. 7 Birmingham-Southern, Piedmont won a dominant 17-2 game against the Panters. The win clinched the series against the top-ten Panthers and moved the Lions to 3-4 overall. The turning point for the Lions was a bases clearing double in the sixth inning by Justin Grober that built a 6-2 lead for Piedmont. Brady Ballstadt, Andrew Burden, and Wes Snyder all had three hits in the contest.
Justin Teague's pinch-hit, two-run triple fueled a three-run top of the 14th as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated 18th-ranked Salisbury, 9-6, to complete a weekend two-game sweep of the Sea Gulls. The game last four and a half hours and was the longest for the Red Dragons, in terms of innings played, since a 16-inning victory over Division II Wisconsin-Parkside on March 16, 1994 in Florida. With one out in the 14th, Wyatt Myers walked and Garrett Heaton reached on a bunt single. Teague followed with a triple down the left field line to plate both runners, and he scored on Colin BeVard's double to right center.
Bridgewater (Va.) opened its season with a doubleheader split at Brevard. The Eagles took the opener 21-1, but Brevard salvaged a split with two runs in its last at bat to take a 6-5 win in the second game. In the opener, Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning and broke the game open with six runs in the sixth and 10 more in the eighth. Bridgewater was unable to hold the one-run lead as the Tornadoes won the game in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and no one on base, Brevard strung together three straight hits to win the game. Ryan Roon's two-run base hit provided the winning runs.

Junior Colin Selby hurled five hitless innings with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap after junior Nick Roth allowed three hits in five scoreless frames in game one, as the Randolph-Macon baseball team swept a season-opening doubleheader from RPI at The Diamond. The Yellow Jackets took the opener 3-1 and claimed the nightcap 5-3 against the Engineers.

Gallaudet flourished in its season-opener with a doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge on a cool and sun-filled afternoon at Hoy Field. Gallaudet shut out the Patriots in the first game 6-0 and won 5-1 in the second game in the non-conference twin bill to begin the 2018 season. Four Bison had two hits on the day with Kyle Gumm adding three walks and three stolen bases with his two hit performance.
Methodist defeated Christopher Newport 4-1 to pick up its fourth straight win and finish their weekend tournament with a 3-0 record. Davis Cass was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Ethan Carmack finished 3-for-3 and also drew a walk and stole a base.
Berry took down the LaGrange Panthers for the second time this season, earning their fourth straight victory. Berry now sits at 4-1 behind the arm of Trey Rampy who went 5.0 innings allowing just one run and striking out eight to collect his second win of the year. Dylan Beasley was also strong in relief, earning the 4.0 inning save allowing just a pair of baserunners and fanning four.
DeSales rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory over Keystone in day three of the Armstrong/Diamond Invitational to finish the tounament 2-1. The Bulldogs took advantage of an error and a passed ball to score two unearned runs. Junior Charlie Barebo drove in the tying run for DeSales with a double, moved up to third-base on the passed ball, and then ended up scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Three runs on three hits in the 10th inning led visiting Pacific to a 10-8 win over host Whitman in Walla Walla, Washington. The Boxers pulled off the series sweep with its second-straight, extra-inning win and extended its winning streak to seven. The series sweep over the Blues is its first since the 2015 season. Pacific had 13 hits for its fourth double-digit hit game of the young season. Five-different Boxers had two hits, including its one-two punch at the top of the order in Derek Legeza and Dylan Wright. Both Legeza and Dylan Wright each had two RBI in the win.
A monster offensive weekend culminated in a sweep of Lewis and Clark as George Fox took the opening series of Northwest Conference play with 12-10 and 10-2 victories. The Bruins scored double-digit runs for the sixth time with the two wins. Jerred Seamons was the hitting star with four hits and four RBIs on the day for George Fox.

Guilford and William Peace split a non-conference doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games at McBane Field. The Quakers won game one, 8-4. Guilford picked up its first win of the season after Mitchell Stumpo went 2-5 with a double and five RBI to lead the home team in the opening game. The Pacers edged Guilford, 2-1, in the rubber match of the three-game weekend series.
A darkness delay, the threat of snow and a rematch of last year's Northwest Conference championship game made for an eventful the three-game series between the Willamette Bearcats and the Linfield Wildcats. After a 20-run drubbing by Linfield, 'Cats starter Cater Buuck stuffed the Bearcats order by tossing a one-hit, complete game shutout Sunday at Spec Keene Stadium.
Oglethorpe got the bats going early and rode them to a 14-4, seven-inning victory over MacMurray. Oglethorpe senior right-hander Matt Davis earned his first victory of the season, allowing two earned runs on three hits over five innings of work. He struck out four MacMurray hitters and walked three, with a hit batsman thrown in. Sophomore first baseman Andrew Mink led the way for the Petrels, as he went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a double.
While No. 20 Centenary (La.) failed to score in the first 17 innings the past two days, they made sure to make the 18th count. The Diamond Gents scored four runs in the ninth for a win in their first true road game of the season as Centenary knocked off No. 15 Texas-Tyler 4-2 in the Jack Clement Classic in Tyler, Texas. Trailing 2-0 heading to the top of the ninth, key walks, a hit by pitch, and two fielder’s choices helped net the Gents four runs without getting a hit.
