Pitchers steal the show on Sunday

Alexis Castillo blasted two home runs in game one victory. The Yellow Jackets took game one by a score of 12-4 over the Blue Streaks. Although hard-fought, JCU took game two by a score of 10-7 to move to 3-1 on the season while Baldwin Wallace falls to 1-3 in their first weekend back at Fisher Field.

In their first home game in 683 days, Saint Mary's University's Ryan Wolfe turned in a pitching masterpiece and Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.) made sure the senior right-hander was rewarded for his efforts. Anderson delivered a one-out, walk-off double — preserving Wolfe's four-hit, complete-game gem, and lifting the Cardinals to a 2-1, nonconference win over Luther. The Cardinals didn't get another complete-game pitching performance in the nightcap — but they definitely got another pitching Picasso, as Jonathan Cieminski, Jacob Johnson, and Kodey Kiel combined a two-hitter, as Saint Mary's completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory.

The College of Mount Saint Vincent finally returned to the field on Sunday after a full year of no action. The team was clearly fired up to be back on the diamond, as the Dolphins swept a doubleheader against the Bears of St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn. Game one was an offensive rout, with CMSV securing an 18-1 victory. Despite back and forth action early on in the second contest, the Dolphins ultimately overpowered the Bears by nine. The Dolphins didn't waste any time on the offensive end, as leadoff hitter Jake Blinstrub opened the game with a triple and subsequently scored on an Anthony Nocero double play groundout. CMSV tacked on two additional runs in the second inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Blinstrub through the right side, bringing home Jake Pierre and Matt Albert. The contest was all but finished at the end of the third inning after the Dolphins scored 10 runs on nine hits. The Dolphins picked up right where they left off in game two, scoring seven runs before the Bears could record their first at-bat and brooms were out for the sweep.

Wilmington battled back from a four-run deficit to earn a twin bill split against Otterbein University at Day Air Ballpark on Sunday. The Cardinals took game one 14-1 in seven innings and the Fightin' Quakers won game two 9-8 in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10th. Otterbein took control with a seven-run first inning using three hits and drawing four walks and rode the advantage to victory. In the nightcap, Jesse Reliford doubled to right center to score  Brandon Smith and Cole Heger.

Marywood closed their non-conference slate with 7-1 and 13-3 wins over Cazenovia College Sunday afternoon. The Pacers (3-1) got wins on the mound from Nick Notari in the opener and Danny Becker in the nightcap. Both pitchers are 1-0 on the young season. Despite being out-hit 4-2 in the opener, Marywood managed seven runs, thanks in part to five errors from the Wildcats' defense. Morgan Theobald was 1-for-3 with three RBI while Jake Schuster (1-for-3) had the only other Marywood hit. TJ Lacey had the save on the mound after striking out six over the final three innings. Cazenovia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the nightcap in the top of the first, but the Pacers responded with a seven-run first of their own to take command. Scott Becker was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a triple and three RBI in the win. Rookie Max Slusser was 2-for-4 and the only other Pacer with multiple hits in game two. Michael Tempel had two RBI. D'Auria and Quinton Roma also tripled for Marywood. Becker struck out six in three innings of middle relief work. Tyler Quick and Michael Aronica struck out five over the final four innings, give the Pacers' pitching staff 14 K's in game two and 24 for the afternoon.

Schreiner University finished their four game series with University of the Southwest this afternoon with another double header sweep 10-6; 5-2. In the first game, the Mountaineers quickly jumped in front with a three run second inning, but the Mustangs from USW answered with a 6-3 lead going into the 5th inning. Luckily for the Mountaineers, their bats started to come around as they drove home one run in the 5th and six runs in the 6th to give them the 10-6 victory. The Mountaineers were able to get offensive contributions all around in this game with big at bats from Jeffrey Williams (Double/2 RBIs), Ryan Ragle (Double), Josh Gilliam (Home Run/RBI), Miguel Quinones (3 RBIs), Reece Hohhertz (RBI), Devin Hooper (RBI), Caleb Valchar (RBI), and Keller Driskill (RBI). In the second game, the Mountaineers once again got out to an early lead, but this time they would hold on to it for the remainder of the game. Solid at bats from Jeffrey Williams (Double/2 RBIs), Keller Driskill (Triple), Devin Hooper (Home Run/RBI), and Chance Goins (RBI) gave the Mountaineers the 5-2 victory.

one of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Middle
Atlantic Conference action. In game two of the
afternoon doubleheader at McGill Field, the Dutchmen
left no doubt thanks to a nine-run sixth inning in LVC's
dominant 17-4 win over the Lions. LVC now sits at 4-2,
4-0 MACC, while Albright slipped to 0-5, 0-4 MACC.

The Concordia (Wis.) Falcons remain unbeaten at Kapco Park in 2021 with a 16-6 victory over Northland on Sunday afternoon. The victory sends CUW to 2-1 on the young season. The Lumberjacks were able to take an early lead with a run in the first inning but CUW tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning. The Blue and White bult the lead up to 8-5 after the sixth inning with a pair of singles from Sean Tllmon and Kyle Kosobucki. The Falcons were able to score six more runs in the eighth inning to enforce the mercy rule. Sophomore Tyler Drezek (West Allis, Wis.) had seven strikeouts in the victory.

Whitman College closed their weekend series against Lewis & Clark with a doubleheader split, topping the Pioneers 14-8 in the opener and 5-2 in game two. Whitman's bats had their way with Lewis & Clark pitching in the opener. The story of game two were the performances of first years Billy Wall on the mound, and Eric Sitzman and Beck Maguire hitting homeruns in consecutive innings.

Concordia University Chicago (1-3) finished up their weekend trip to Greencastle, Ind. by splitting a doubleheader with the Depauw University Tigers (6-4). The Cougars won game one thanks to timely hitting and pitching. They were effective at bringing home runners from scoring position and we're equally as effective and preventing the Tigers from doing so, holding on to win 9-6. Despite leading most of the game, the Cougars fell 15-13 in the afternoon matchup. It was an offensive showcase that allowed the team to flex some of their power, but they were unable to prevail in the end as the Tigers scored 14 runs in their final three at-bats.

The Pacific Lutheran University baseball team flipped the script on Sunday, earning a doubleheader sweep at the expense of Northwest Conference rival Pacific University to split the weekend series. The Lutes blasted four home runs in an 11-7 win in the opener before a Cole Trotignon walkoff single gave the Lutes' the 3-2 victory in game two. "Saturday was a tough day for us," said Head Coach Nolan Soete. "Pacific did a great job hammering mistakes at the plate and we lost a couple of close games to a good team. I'm proud of how our guys bounced back today. The offense set the tone in the first game today. Ferguson did a good job battling on the mound and Cohen was good in relief. Gormley had a huge day and Haworth and Trotignon were locked in as well. Snyder has his best outing of the year. He was extremely efficient. We played well in all three phases and it was a good day." A power surge in the opener, propelled the homestanding Lutes to an 11-7 victory after cranking out four home runs. In the seventh, Andy Schmitz reached base on a two-base error by the Boxers and eventually touched home for the winning run on a walkoff single up the middle by Cole Trotignon.

Immaculata opened its 2021 season at home on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Penn State-Abington. Immaculata dropped the first game of the doubleheader 12-6 due to a nine-run second inning from Penn State before storming back to take game two by a final of 15-3 to register a split with the Nittany Lions. Immaculata mounted a comeback in the home half of the eighth in the opener as Josh Crowding started the inning with a towering home run over the left field fence to make the score 10-6 heading to the ninth. In the top of the ninth, Penn State-Abington added two more runs via a home run to left field, which closed the book on the Mighty Mac. In the second game, Immaculata scored multiple runs in five innings to overwhelm thier opponent to a split on the day

Marian University (1-3, 0-0 NACC) fell to St. Norbert to open a doubleheader but rallied in game two for an 8-7 victory. The Loss in ther nightcap was the first loss of the season for the Green Knights. A couple of Marian errors proved to play a big factor in a 6-3 loss to open the non-conference twin bill. The Green Knights were able to score in their first turn at the plate scoring a pair of runs, but the Sabres were able to immediately answer. St. Norbert wouldn't score an earned run the remainder of the game but plated three runs in the fourth and another in the sixth to go ahead 6-2. A double from senior Jake Arens plated a run in the seventh but the Sabres weren't able to come any closer. St. Norbert looked poised for a sweep but the Sabres were able to plate five runs in the top of the seventh to earn an 8-7 win.

Franciscan would compete in their first game at Vaccaro Field of the season, their first game at home since 2011. The Barons delivered a great performance for the home fans, as they would win the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 12-6. Declan Peterson had a team high three hits and three RBIs AND Joshua Costello and Daniel Halsey each had a pair of RBIs in game one. In the non-conference NIGHT CAP, runs came early and often for both teams with Westminister coming out ahead 7-6.

Manhattanville College opened their home schedule Sunday afternoon with a come-from-behind 9-8 Skyline Conference win before falling 9-0 in the non-conference finale against the Purchase College Panthers (2-2, 1-2 Skyline) from Manhattanville College Baseball Field in Purchase, New York. Manhattanville put together a key seven-run rally in the fifth inning to trim the 8-0 deficit to one run. With the bases-loaded, Tyler Mandel's two RBI single pushed Brian McBride and Joseph Silvestri across for the Valiants' first pair of runs. In the eighth inning, Silvestri slapped a critical double down the right field line for Parisi to score the game-tying run. Then, Silvestri scored the game-winning run off Lynch's RBI single through the right side. Purchase broke the scoring in the first inning of game two with four runs scored and padded their lead with a three-run fourth and two-run fifth to settle the 9-0 victory. Alex Miller and Elijah Diaz earned the combined shutout.

The top-ranked Trinity (Texas) Tigers finished its weekend at Sul Ross State University by taking the rubber game of the three-game series by a final score of 9-5 on Sunday. Trinity improves to 9-1 this season with the win, and the Tigers clinched the series by answering Friday night's loss with back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday. After Sul Ross took the lead with runs in the second and third innings, Jack Wisniewski tied things up with a two-run double in the top of the fourth. Mason Meredith drove in a run as Trinity added two more insurance runs in the sixth, taking an 8-3 lead into the final three innings. After Tyler Pettit finished off the Tiger scoring with his RBI double in the eighth, Sul Ross got two runs back to close the gap to 9-5 heading into the final inning. Joseph Chavana came on in relief and finished off the game in the ninth, entering with two runners on and just one out. He promptly struck out the next two hitters to close out the Tiger win.

Hanover wrapped up a busy weekend going 2-1 overall. The Panthers welcomed Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon winning game one 8-4 before trailing through eight complete innings in game two 7-2. Game two will be finished in a few weeks when the team heads to Terre Haute, Ind. Sunday's doubleheader saw the Panthers hit the road as they split with the Ravens of Anderson. The Ravens claimed game one 10-2 before Hanover captured the nightcap, 8-6. The Panthers looked to rally in the top of the ninth inning in Sunday's opener as another Ravens miscue scored a run for Hanover. However, it wasn't enough as the Black and Orange were able to retire the side and claim the win. The bats came alive in game two for Hanover as they scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Anderson would get within 7-6 before an Andrew Littlefield sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth propelled the Blue and Red to the 8-6 victory.

Wells relied on the same winning formula in a pair of wins against visiting St. Lawrence University on Sunday. In both contests, Wells spotted the opposition a 2-0 lead. The Express then put together back-to-back multi-run innings in each game to carry them to victory. In the first game, Wells combined for all 12 of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 12-5 victory and in the second game, the team scored a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings for an 8-5 win.

Mitchell College stormed back from an early six-run deficit to post an 18-9 victory over Nichols College on Sunday, completing the weekend sweep. John-John Jose went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and five RBI to lead the Mitchell offense. Jeremy Sagun also had four hits and knocked in four runs as the Mariners improved to 5-1 overall. Camren Varney tossed 4.1 innings of relief to earn the win, allowing one unearned run on one hit. Sam Majewski closed out the final 2.0 innings and struck out five to pick up the save.

Washington College baseball team split a doubleheader against Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon at Athey Park. The Shoremen won the opener by a score of 7-3 but the Eagles came back with a 10-4 triumph in the nightcap. Washington College (6-2) won three of the four contests against Mary Washington (1-5) this weekend. Chris Baker produced the game-winning hit in all three Shoremen victories this weekend. He went a combined 8-for-14 (.571) with 10 RBI's and three extra-bae hits.

Cabrini earned a doubleheader sweep this afternoon after collecting a decisive 13-0 victory in game one and an 11-8 victory in game two over the visiting Wesley College Wolverines. The Cavalier offense exploded for 13 runs on 16 hits in game one, highlighted by a seven run third inning. Senior Justin Henry paced the offensive outburst after pairing a double and a home run with two runs scored and five RBI's. The offense picked up where is left on in game as the hosts used a seven run sixth inning to storm back and seal the come-from-behind victory.

Alvernia University (4-2) split a non-conference doubleheader with Stevenson University (4-2) on Sunday at Stevenson University. In game one of the doubleheader, Alvernia trailed 2-0 after three innings before evening the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. The Golden Wolves broke the tie in the top of the fifth and a big seventh inning for Alvernia broke the game open. In game two, Alvernia fell in walk-off fashion after trailing the majority of the game. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and one out, Stevenson hit a walk-off single to right to take the 9-8 win.
