Gustavus sweeps St. John's, Roanoke does it to Shenandoah

Third-ranked Salisbury University stretched its winning streak to six games with two dominant road wins over the Southern Virginia Knights in Saturday's Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Sea Gulls used a total team effort to win the opener 14-2 and, behind a 13-run eighth inning, cruised to a 23-1 victory in the nightcap.

Gustavus handed Saint John’s loses of 9-3 and 7-2 on Saturday, completing the three-game series sweep after claiming an 8-3 win Friday in Saint Peter. The Gusties improve to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC, while the No. 22-ranked Johnnies drop to 10-4 overall and 0-3 in the league. The Gusties progressively got better as the game rolled along, scoring single runs in each of the first three innings followed two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Damon Rademacher benefitted from a five-run eighth in game two to earn the decision. Charlie Hutchinson started on the mound and lasted six innings, allowing one run on nine hits with two strikeouts. Hanson closed out the final two innings on the mound, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. Hanson also led the team at the plate, batting 3-for-5 with a run, four RBI, a double, and a home run. Hanson now leads the team with five home runs and 20 RBI through 10 games.

Roanoke played host to Shenandoah in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets came into the games with a perfect 9-0 ODAC record and were ranked 13th in the country in the latest D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25. The Maroons took a 2-0 lead into the top of the ninth but a two-run HR by Shenandoah would send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, the Maroons would see the winning run cross the plate for the 3-2 win. In game two, Roanoke would use 16 hits to score 11 runs in completing the sweep of the Hornets.

Danny Glampe went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored as the Carroll University upset No. 9-ranked North Central College 7-3 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Frame Park on Saturday afternoon. It was the second victory over three-time defending conference tournament champion North Central in the last three games for Carroll, which improved to 4-6 in the league standings and 10-8 overall. Dylan Callahan, TJ Pfaffle and Benton Holly each followed with two hits to power an 11-hit offensive attack for the Pioneers, who had three extra-base hits.

The 20th ranked Washington & Jefferson College squad traveled to Geneva College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Presidents extended their season-opening win streak to 14 games as W&J collected a doubleheader sweep. W&J posted an 8-0 win in game one behind a strong pitching performance by junior Henry Litman. Tyler Horvat allowed just one run in seven innings of game two as the Presidents recorded an 11-2 game two victory. W&J moves to 14-0 on the season and 11-0 in PAC play. Geneva falls to 5-8 overall, 4-7 PAC. Litman improved to 4-0 this season as the junior righty tossed a complete game shutout. Litman struck out eight and walked one. He scattered six Geneva hits. Horvat allowed just two hits, one earned run and had seven strikeouts in seven innings to collect his third win.

Wheaton (Mass.) swept Clark on Saturday, winning two games on the Granger Field turf. The Lyons won game one by a score of 4-1 and cruised to a 12-1 victory in game two. Wheaton improves to 4-0 on the season in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play. In Game One, Wheaton received a strong outing from senior Gavin Reily who threw 6.2 innings, and allowed one earned run while striking out six. He was relieved by Zach Clesas, who pitched 1.1 strong innings. Josh Roberge came on in the ninth to record his first save of the year. In game two, Zach Demattio led the Lyons offensively, going 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs. Stephen Quigley was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs and an RBI.

A six-run fourth inning and a complete game from Drew Ryback propelled #18 Rowan (4-2; 2-0 NJAC) to a 13-2 first-game win over No. 25 Kean (5-6; 0-2) in NJAC baseball action today, as the Profs swept the doubleheader, winning by a 4-2 margin in the second game. Eric DiDomenico hit a solo home run in the third inning to tie the score at 1-1, before Rowan went on a barrage in the fourth to give the Profs a 12-1 lead. In the second game, the Profs scored all four runs in the second inning. Eli Atiya pitched seven innings and allowed just one run in earning the win, while Connor Metelski and Zach Listro came in relief to limit Kean to just one more run in the eighth.

No. 8 Babson College homered four times in the opener and doubled six times in game two on the way to sweeping the Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Nitchmann Field. The Beavers (4-0, 4-0 NEWMAC) won the opener 13-0 and followed it up with an 11-2 victory over the Bears (3-3, 3-3 NEWMAC) in game two. The Beavers are 63-22 all-time against Coast Guard and have won 10 straight games in the series since 2016. Babson's four home runs are its most since April 29, 2017, when it also hit four in a 10-2 NEWMAC Tournament victory over Wheaton.

No. 24 Adrian edged visiting Albion 4-3 in the first game and 5-8 in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader to complete a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association weekend series sweep of the Britons, running its win streak to nine games. The Bulldogs improve to 14-5 on the season and 8-0 in the MIAA, while the Britons drop to 7-11 overall and 3-5 in the conference. In the opener, senior Brandon Cooper delivered what proved to be the game-winning hit with a RBI-single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate freshman pinch-runner Alex Joseph from second base after stealing it. That made the score 4-2 at the time. Sean Haddlesey had a RBI fielder's choice to cut Albion's deficit to 4-3 with two outs and runners on first and third in the seventh, and had a golden opportunity to knot the score. But senior Jacob Hanoian picked up his first career save after striking out Drew Olszewski to end the game. Senior Mo Hanley got the win as he improved to 2-0, striking out 11 in five innings. He worked around three walks, three hits and two runs. Hanoian struck out two and allowed a run in two innings.

Aurora University swept their Saturday doubleheader with Marian University. The Spartans won game one with a score of 3-1 and game two 5-3. In game one the Sabers bats were kept quiet as Spartan pitcher Kyle Blunt pitched a complete game near shutout. Marian would get their only run in the final frame of the game, unearned. Marian would bring the tying run up to the plate in the 9th in the second game, but Alec Strupp would strike out the final batter of the game for the win and sweep.

One day after pitching back-to-back no-hitters, Webster completed its series sweep against Eureka College by scoring 35 runs, recording 34 hits and 10 home runs en route to taking both ends of a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Henry Sand Field. The third and sixth-ranked Gorloks opened Saturday's doubleheader by recording 15 hits and hitting five home runs as they posted a 19-1 win in the opener, before recording 19 hits, including a total of 11 extra base hits as they posted a 16-6 win in the nightcap of the twinbill that was ended after eight innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
