2021 MAC Freedom Championship was nearly over on day one. Arcadia split the opening two games of the MAC Freedom quarterfinals with Wilkes on Saturday afternoon. Justin Massielo worked a bases-loaded, walk-off walk in the ninth inning of the opener to claim a 4-3 for the Knights. Wilkes scored the first 11 runs in game two enroute to a 12-8 victory. Arcadia and Wilkes will play a winner-take-all game on Sunday. Misericordia, Desales, and Stevens all advance with 2-0 records in their quarterfinal series.

The Commonwealth Coast Conference got under way with the first two best of three series. Endicott exploded for an eight-run seventh stanza to build a distance too much for Suffolk to make up as the Rams fell to the Gulls, 21-5, in the nightcap of the CCC POD B Finals Saturday at North Field. The Gulls took game one 5-4 and advance to play the winner of Sunday's Salve Regina-Roger Williams game. Salve Regina took a first step towards reaching its fifth straight CCC championship series with a 9-5 victory in game one of a Pod A best-of-three series with Roger Williams. The Hawks forced a deciding game (first pitch noon on Sunday) with a 12-4 triumph in game two.

After falling 6-1 in the opener, Hood College forced a decisive game in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Quarterfinal series against top-seeded York (Pa.) with a 14-11 win in game two. Widener and Eastern also split on the day with Widener winning the opener, 8-2, and the Eagles grabbing a game two win, 17-11. Alvernia and Lebanon Valley both swept their games and will face each other next weekend in the semifinal round.

Johns Hopkins made it ten straight wins with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Muhlenberg. AJ King drove in five of the Blue Jays seven runs & Peter Schaefer struck out a career-high 15 to lead Hopkins to a 7-2 win in game one. The Blue Jays scored in each of the first four innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 10-2 victory over the Mules. The NCAA platoff bid is awarded to ethe regular seasonm champion and Franklin and Marshall trail the Blue Jays by two losses. Wins over Dickinson will give the Diplomats the title, having defeated JHU earlier in the season two games to none.

Willamette University and Pacific University played a pair of extra-inning Northwest Conference games on Saturday, May 1 at John Lewis Field. In the 9-inning first game, the Boxers scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning for an 8-5 win. In the 7-inning second game, Jeff Hoffman of Willamette smacked a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 victory. With the split, Willamette moved to 26-12 overall, 20-10 in the NWC. Pacific ended the day at 24-10 overall, 19-7 in the NWC. The Bearcats forced extra innings in both games. In the opener, WU scored once in the bottom of the eighth and twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5 and push it into the 10th. In the second game, the Bearcats tallied one run each in the fifth and sixth stanzas to send the game into the eighth tied at 3-3 one inning later.

Husson University (17-5, 17-1 NAC-East) posted a pair of convincing victories over Thomas College (8-7, 7-5 NAC-East) in a North Atlantic Conference East Division doubleheader at the Harold Alfond Diamond at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Terriers by a 7-3 score in the opener and completed the sweep with a 13-4 nightcap victory. Cam Graham improved to 3-1 on the season after allowing three unearned runs off six hits with two K's in six innings. Ryan Robb pitched a scoreless seventh inning, fanning one batter. Harrison Lendrum picks up the win and is now 2-0 after allowing four unearned runs off five hits with five strikeouts. With the sweep Husson improves to 112-39 all-time versus Thomas College.

Union College hosted Vassar College on Saturday in a Liberty League double-header at Shuttleworth Park. The Dutchmen and Brewers split the first two games of the four-game series with a 9-5 Union victory in game one and a 12-5 Vassar victory in game two. Seniors Kevin Chaimowitz, Matt Toy and William Bellamy each had two hits on the day to lead the Union offense. Chaimowitz was 2-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs, Bellamy went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, and Toy had two hits and drove in two runs. Game two went a little differently for Union, as the Brewers scored seven times in the seventh and eighth innings to blow open a tie game and earn a 12-5 victory.

La Roche swept Pitt Bradford Saturday afternoon at home to improve to 15-1 on the season. The Redhawks outscored the Panthers 24-0 in the doubleheader. LRU defeated UPB 14-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two to pick up their third and fourth shutouts of the season. LRU allowed just four hits between both games. At the plate, Pitt Bradford went 4-52 (.077) in the doubleheader while La Roche went 28-67 (.418). Already having clinched the AMCC Regular Season Title, the Redhawks will await the results of the 8/9 play in game to see who they will face in first round of the conference postseason tournament. Round one will kick-off next Saturday, May 8th.

The University of Dallas Crusaders took the first two games of their series against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Austin on Saturday. Dallas won a wild and peculiar game one that featured several conspicuously bizarre scoring plays. Dallas went on to win in the extra innings thanks in part to the small ball play of their 3-4-5 hitters, and the stellar pitching of Tyler Montemayor. UD won game two in a much more modest and conventional manner as Ryan Flores led the 4-0 Crusader win with a complete game shutout. In the 10th inning of the opener, Nathan Patton led off the inning with a walk and then stole second for UD's 11th stolen bases of the game. Zach Taylor laid down a sacrifice bunt to send Patton to third, and Michael Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Patton and give UD a 9-8 lead.

A busy weekend on the diamond began for the Franklin on Saturday (May 1) afternoon, with the Grizzlies taking on the Earlham Quakers. The two teams had some business to attend to before their scheduled double-header and complete a suspended game from Mar. 27. For the second game in a row, Nick Wright proved to be the hero, delivering a walk-off single in the 12th in a 9-8 Franklin (18-10) win. Game one of the scheduled twin bill saw the Quakers (18-15) power their way to a 12-8 win. Game two was headed the way of another slugfest, but senior Alex Reinoehl proved to be the stopper the Grizzly pitching staff needed in a 10-7 Franklin win.

Ursinus swept McDaniel on Saturday afternoon. The Bears used timely hitting in game one to win, 9-6. In game two, it was Nolan Graber who was dominant on the mound. The senior pitched pitching an absolute beauty in game two, striking out 10 in the 6-2 victory. With the win, the Bears earned their second series sweep of the season. Ursinus moved into a tie for fourth in the standings, a game from third place Washington College.

DePauw swept a North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan by scores to 5-1 and 11-9 to improve to 15-18 overall and finish NCAC play at 8-8. The Battling Bishops dropped to 6-22 overall and 2-14 in NCAC play. In the opener, Sam Paddock allowed just three singles in pitching the Tigers to the win. n the nightcap, DePauw battled back from a 7-3 deficit with five in the fifth and three in the sixth.

MSOE came into today's contest having dropped four of their last six ballgames and needed to right the ship in order to stay in the NACC North division title hunt. Two wins against Marian should do the trick. The Raiders offense was firing on all cylinders as they took both games against the Sabres on the road, 17-11, 7-3. The MSOE (12-12, 9-5 NACC North) bats were booming in game one, totaling 17 runs on 18 hits. Chris Barnes led the charge as the sophomore racked up seven RBIs. The backend of the twin bill featured less scoring but still a lot of production out of the Raiders.

St. Scholastica rolled to a pair of seven-inning wins on Saturday over Martin Luther College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Wade Stadium. The Saints jumped out to a 13-0 lead to begin the day, including seven runs in the third inning to win 19-5. The second game of the day saw the Saints shutout the Knights 11-0. Jake Schelonka had four RBIs, while Reed Larson and Alex Busick had three RBIs each in game one. In game two, Mitchell Novak went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. Schelonka went 2-for-3 and had three more RBIs.

New Jersey City University picked up the doubleheader split on Senior Day at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex this afternoon, Saturday, May 1, as the Gothic Knights earned the game one, 6-5 comeback victory over Rutgers-Newark in New Jersey Athletic Conference play before falling to the Scarlet Raiders 13-8 in game two. Eight members of the NJCU baseball class of 2021 were recognized during the pregame ceremonies, along with one member of the 2020 class. In the eighth, junior catcher Mitchell Leslie launched a solo blast — his first homer as a Gothic Knight — to put NJCU ahead 6-5. Junior pitcher John Pudder entered in the top half of the eighth locked down his first victory of the season and second of his career. Leslie stayed hot with the bat in the loss in game two and finished the afternoon 3-for-6 with three RBI, a home run, two walks, two runs scored, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base.

Northern Vermont University-Lyndon battered University of Maine at Presque Isle pitchers for 38 runs and 35 hits on the way to a sweep of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The Hornets, winners of seven games in a row, improve to 7-8 on the season. Lyndon also improves to 7-5 in NAC play and pulls into a second place tie with Thomas College in the East Division. UMaine-Presque Isle remains winless in 12 games, including 11 conference contests. The Hornets pounded 14 hits and scored in every inning except the first in the opener. Ryder Thornton led the attack with a home run, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. The hits kept coming for Lyndon in the nightcap. The Hornets plated runs in each of the first six innings, delivering 21 hits including 10 extra base hits.

Marymount University earned two all-important Atlantic East Conference victories on Saturday afternoon as the Saints downed Immaculata University in a pair of contests to improve to 15-4 overall and 13-2 in conference action. Thee Saints' bats came alive in the opening contest and blasted Immaculata for 12 runs throughout the contest. MU's offense stayed hot in the final game of the series which led to a massive 20-1 win over Immaculata. With the victory, the Saints moved into possession of first place on the Atlantic East leaderboard.

Manhattanville College split its Skyline Conference Senior Day doubleheader versus the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (12-8, 8-8 Skyline) Saturday afternoon. Manhattanville claimed victory with a 5-3 decision in the opener before Mount Saint Vincent solidified the series split with a 18-9 win from Manhattanville College Baseball Field in Purchase, New York. The Valiants now move to a 10-8 mark overall and 8-7 in conference play.

St. John Fisher College clinched the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship and home field advantage throughout the conference playoffs after sweeping both ends of a doubleheader against Utica College on Saturday afternoon at Dugan Yard. With the wins, the Cardinals, who are receiving votes in the most recent D3baseball.com national poll, improved to 24-5 on the year and 15-1 in the Empire 8 standings while the Pioneers fell to 13-13, 6-7, respectively. After plating a run in the top of the first, Utica was unable to hold its lead in game one. The Cardinals sent 12 hitters to the dish and scored nine runs on nine hits as Fisher never looked back. Leading by seven runs late in the second game, Fisher gave one back in the top of the eighth and again in the top of the ninth, but buckled down and ended the threat with a pop up to second base to close out the win.

After falling in game one of Saturday's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader, Elmira College rallied in the final three innings to earn a split with Houghton College. The Highlanders (18-11, 10-8 E8) held on for a 9-6 win in the opening contest, before the Soaring Eagles (4-24, 2-12 E8) came from behind to secure an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.

Covenant concluded its season with a doubleheader split at Maryville on Saturday. Covenant won the first game, 15-11, before dropping the rubber game of the series, 8-2. Kenny Mills hit a grand slam, Joseph Ridenour had three hits, and Conor Austin threw a career-high four innings out of the bullpen as the Scots took game one, 15-11, over Maryville. Maryville scored seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for an 8-2 victory and a series win.

Senior Andrew Wasilefsky had a huge day at the plate to lead Plymouth State University to a sweep of Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference doubleheader at Parish Field on Saturday. Wasilefsky went 3-for-3 with a double and homer while driving in five runs as PSU took the opener, 13-3, in seven innings. In the nightcap he added a 2-for-4 performance with a double, triple, three runs scored and three more RBI. 

Springfield battled their way to a pair of victories over Emerson in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference doubleheader at Archie Allen Field on Saturday. The Pride cruised to an 8-1 victory in the opener before rallying late in the second game of the twinbill for an 8-6 triumph. The victories evened the Pride's conference record to 3-3 on the season as it now stands at 3-5 overall. The setbacks dropped Emerson to 1-9. The Pride erupted for 15 hits as it raced out to a 6-0 lead through three innings to coast to the conference win. Noah Bleakley allowed just three hits in five innings of work on the mound, while Michael Barrett and Jack Simonetty each produced three hits. In the second game, Brendan Kirck started on the mound and tossed four innings, allowing on earned run off three hits while striking out three batters. John Daley was credited with the victory for the Pride as he pitched the final two innings in relief. Cadin Maynard recorded three hits while Nick Fazio, Ryan Smith, and Conor Santoianni all collected a pair of hits on the day.

Mount Union swept the Wilmington Fightin' Quakers in a Saturday doubleheader at Rafeld-Rogers Field, winning game one 9-2 and game two 12-2 in seven innings. The Purple Raiders have now won nine games in a row and run their record to 22-6 overall and 20-6 in the OAC, while Wilmington falls to 7-21 overall and 6-18 in the OAC. Thomas Gallant got the game one start for Mount Union and went 6.1 innings, surrendering four hits, one run, and one walk, while striking out seven to pick up his fifth win of the season. Senior Carson Davis got the start in game two and threw six complete innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, while striking out eight.

Catholic University defeated Susquehanna University 9-0 and 6-5 on Saturday during Senior Day. Senior first baseman Nolan Lundholm went 5-for-8 on the day with a double and two RBIs as the Cardinals improved to 11-9 in the Landmark Conference. Sophomore second baseman Derek Zelesnick also had a day at the plate where he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Penn State-Altoona capped its regular season schedule with a sweep of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field. Prior to the games, the team honored its four senior players. The Lions (11-13, 9-7 AMCC) continued the celebration during the doubleheader, winning game one 11-1 and storming back in game two to prevail 14-5.

Edgewood College entered Saturday's NACC North road doubleheader at Wisconsin Lutheran College in desperate need of two wins. The Eagles made sure they got those two wins by scoring 15 runs in each game, highlighted by record-breaking performances from Cooper Holewinski and Jacob Slonim, in a sweep over Wisconsin Lutheran. The Eagles won both games via the run rule, the opener 15-3 and game two, 15-4.

Brevard College (13-13, 7-5 USAS) completed a three-game sweep over Huntingdon College (13-19, 4-10 USAS) by taking both games of a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. Brevard College's senior class was honored in a special ceremony in between games. Brevard claimed the first contest, 7-3 before surging past the Hawks with a big 11-2 victory in which all 10 seniors saw action.
