Plattsburg walk-off higlights Wednesday's games

After going long twice today, Thomas Evans became the Hilbert Baseball All-Time Home Run Leader as the Hawks split their series with the Pioneers (19-12, 7-1 AMCC). The Hawks (18-14, 5-5 AMCC) gave Alfred State their first blemish in conference action taking the first game 3-0, and Alfred State outlasted Hilbert, pulling away late in the 9-4 night-cap win. Thomas Evans timely long hit in the 5th inning and impressive pitching by Brennen Hediger and another save by Brendan Walsh helped lift the Hawks to their first shut-out victory this season.

Plattsburgh State walked off against St. Lawrence on Wednesday evening, as Joey Di Rocco drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. The Cardinals, who led 6-0 after two innings, fended off two Saints comebacks to earn the 9-8 win in non-conference play. Di Rocco finished 2-4 with an RBI, a run scored, and a double along with his walk-off sac fly, as Nick Cergol and Alex Kornblau each finished the day 3-5. In a very important series to help determine placement in the Ohio Athletic Conference with the conference starting in just a few weeks, John Carroll split their doubleheader matchup against Mount Union. The Purple Raiders used a five-run ninth inning in game one to aid in a 7-2 victory as the Blue Streak offense failed to muster much offense. Game two provided a much different outcome, as John Carroll's stellar pitching, led by starter Maxwell Schumaker, was the difference maker as they handled Mount Union, 4-0. It was JCU's third-ever shutout over Mount Union and first at Schweickert Field in the series history.

Dickinson first-year pitchers Austin Buzza and Charlie Bien combined to allow just nine hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. As the Red and White began their two-game Centennial Conference series versus rival Gettysburg College with a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday afternoon at MacPhail Field. Gettysburg's best chance occurred in the top of the seventh when with two-out a pair of hits from Kyle Miller and Jack Pistner placed runners on second and third. A walk then loaded the cushions for Mark Seibert. He would not face Buzza however as Bien entered to take him on and got Seibert swinging through strike three to move the game to the last of the seventh. The Bullets would have one base runner in each of the final two frames, but could do nothing with them as Bien got Kirby to look at strike three to end the game.

No. 6 Endicott defeated Southern Maine, 7-6, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Ed Flaherty Field. The Cardinals put up one last gasp in the bottom of the ninth as Nardi and Johnson pounded back-to-back one-out doubles to make it 8-7. With the tying run in scoring position, Jimmy Adkins punched out Lucas Malave and Zach Burton in succession to secure the nail-biting win. Salisbury's 14-game winning streak is its longest in-season streak since taking 14 in a row to close out the 2021 slate on the way to the national championship.
