After getting rained out on Saturday, the Alton Regional continued play today as the second game of the day featured the Webster (Mo.) University Gorloks and the Bethel (Minn.) University Royals. The Royals defeated the Gorloks by a final score of 7-5 to advance to the championship game of the Alton Regional. With the loss, the Gorloks will face the College of Wooster (Ohio) Fighting Scots tonight in an elimination game.
Webster was back in action this afternoon when they took on Spalding for the SLIAC Championship. The Gorloks defeated the Golden Eagles by a final score of 6-5 in 12 innings and captured their 12th tournament title in program history.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has its first repeat Div. III winner of the year, as Anna Maria College’s Nick Choate is the Rookie of the Week for the second time in the last four weeks. A perfect game and a seven-homer week captured the other Div. III honors for games played April 25 – May 1.

Webster used some clutch relief pitching and two big RBIs from freshman designated hitter R.J. LaRocco (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) in the seventh and ninth innings to remain alive in the NCAA Division III Decatur Regional as the No. 2 seeded Gorloks picked up a 4-3 win over No. 5 seeded Transylvania in an elimination game at the Workman Family Baseball Field at Millikin University.
Top-seeded Webster University was willed to a win by pitcher Matt Mulhearn in an epic complete game pitching performance in game one. Game 2 saw the Gorloks bust out for 13 runs on 13 hits with a strong outing from pitcher Jordan Smevoll to clinch the 2021 SLIAC Tournament Title.
