D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eleventh season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the twelvth Team of the Week of the 2022 season.

Games of April 25-May 1, 2022

C  Zack Luksic, Fr., Wilkes

Luksic helped the Colonels to a 4-0 week. The first-year player hit .583 (7-for-12) with six RBI's, two home runs and a double. He scored five runs with a .615 on-base percentage and a 1.167 slugging percentage.

1B  Declan O'Hare, So., Central (Iowa)

O'Hare successfully reached base on 14 of his 17 plate appearances last week with a .768 batting average (10-for-13). He scored five with eight RBI.

2B  Tom Kretzler, Sr., Brockport

Kretzler helped the Golden Eagles finish 5-0 this past week. He finished the week going 12-for-19 (.632) at the plate with 11 hits being extra-base hits (seven home runs, three doubles, and one triple). He drew a total of four walks while not striking out at all over the course of five games while scoring 13 times and driving in a total of 17 RBIs and 38 total bases.

SS  Ryan McCarty, Sr., Penn St.-Abington

In a 5-0 week for Abington, McCarty went 16-for-21 at the plate (.762) and went on to record 12 runs, 18 RBI, three doubles, five home runs and nine walks.

SS  Paul Tammaro, Sr., Oswego

This week, Tammaro hit 9-for-10 (,.900) against nationally ranked Cortland, doing his job as the leadoff hitter. Tammaro scored five runs, had four stolen bases and a triple all in three games. Tammaro also boasted a perfect defensive fielding percentage, putting out seven batters and assisting on nine.

3B  Brett Tuttle, Sr., Rose-Hulman

Tuttle finished 7-for-17 (.412) with three home runs, a triple, eight RBI and seven runs scored to lead Rose-Hulman to a 3-1 record. Tuttle homered in both games of Sunday's doubleheader sweep win over Bluffton to help the Fightin' Engineers secure a trip to the HCAC Tournament. Tuttle slugged 1.059 for the week.

OF  Antonio Andrade, Sr., Occidental

Andrade helped Occidental to a sweep of Caltech with an explosion of offense at the plate. Andrade hit .778 (7-for-9) with eight runs scored, two doubles, a pair of homers, and nine RBI. He also walked twice, registered a .733 on-base percentage, and slugged at a 1.667 clip.

OF  Kavi Caster, Jr., Salisbury

Caster mashed Mary Washington at the plate during Saturday's C2C doubleheader, going 5-for-8 (.625) with two doubles, a triple, an inside-the-park home run, five RBIs and five runs scored. Caster accumulated 12 total bases in 10 plate appearances and boasted a 2.200 OPS during the twin bill.

OF  Jonah Landowski, Sr., Marian

Landowski did it all for Marian hitting .524 (11-for-21) over six games scoring 11 runs and driving in five more. He drew eight walks on the week to put his on-base percentage at .613, while his slugging percentage finished at .762 after recording five doubles. On the base paths, he stole four bases without being caught, and also earned a victory on the bump tossing 6.0 innings allowing just one run with nine strikeouts against St. Norbert.

DH  Evan Evola, Fr., Webster

Evola hit .650 (13-for-20) in six games with  five doubles, a home run and seven RBI. He scored eight runs.

SP  Bryce Crabb, Jr., Northwestern (Minn.)

Crabbe threw the first no hitter for UNW since 2008. Did not walk anyone in that game, but two errors lead to base runners to prevent the bid for a perfect game. Had 9 strikeouts in his no hitter. He threw 18 innings with 17 strikeouts and no runs on the week.

SP  Alek Elges, So., Webster

Elges threw the 24th perfect game in D3 baseball history in a 5-0 nine inning win over Greenville on Saturday. Also picked up the save against WashU on Wednesday.

SP  Joshua Joy, Sr., Southern Me.

Joy threw the first 9-inning no-hitter in USM history in the Huskies' 7-0 win over Keene State, helping the Huskies complete a conference sweep of the Owls. Joy matched his career-high of 11 strikeouts in the milestone win and gave up just three walks in the contest.

SP  Ian Kline, So., Rose-Hulman

Kline tossed a 9-inning complete-game shutout to help Rose-Hulman earn a key 3-0 HCAC win over Bluffton. Kline threw just 95 pitches in the game with 0 walks, 3 strikeouts and just 3 hits allowed to improve to 6-2 on the season. Rose-Hulman's doubleheader sweep allowed the Fightin' Engineers to clinch a bid to the HCAC Tournament.

RP  Christian Johnston, Jr., Wooster

Johnston earned a win and two saves over three appearances. Johnston retired all 12 batters he faced on the week. He earned the win with with two innings of six-up, six-down ball in Wooster's 13-5 win over Mount Union on Tuesday, then set down the Purple Raiders in order in the bottom of the 10th in the Scots' 10-8 win on Thursday. On Saturday, Johnston entered with the tying run on deck and slammed the door shut on 25th-ranked Denison by setting down all three batters he faced in Wooster's 10-6 game-two win.
