Bruml pitches Sagehens to win

In a battle between teams with identical conference records, Pomona-Pitzer defeated Chapman by a score of 8-2 at Hart Park. Sagehens starter Jake Bruml delivered an impressive performance, tossing a complete game against the Panthers, allowing two unearned runs on eight hits while striking out two batters.

Mount Union swept Albion winning 4-1 and 12-3 at Lake Myrtle Stadium in Auburndale, Florida. The Purple Raiders have won five straight with a similar formula of solid starting pitching and timely hitting. The 1-2 starting pitching combination of Zach Carlino and Matt Murzynski each moved to 2-0 on the season. Carlino scattered six hits over 6.0 innings and struck out six in game one while Murzynski allowed just four hits and with seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings in game two. Anthony Morino and junior Evan Knott continued their hot starts at the plate for Mount Union. Morino went 5-for-5 at the plate and drove in four runs while Knott had five RBI over the two games.

Thomas More defeated Hanover, 7-3, in a non-conference game at the L.S. Ayers Complex in Hanover, Indiana. Senior shortstop David Kennett was four-for-five with two runs scored and two run batted-in, senior right fielder Ryan Darner was three-for-five with a home run, four RBI and a run scored.

Berry rallied, then held off Millsaps in the ninth inning and won by a score of 8-7. Brandyn Jackson, Zach Farmer and Stephen Gaylor all had two hits for the Vikes. The Vikings trailed 6-4 after 6 and half innings. Yet the home team plated four runs in the seventh to earn the win.

A seven-run seventh inning keyed a 9-6 win for Marian as it defeated Wesleyan (Conn.). Ty Gellinger capped the big first inning with a bases clearing triple to right field and the Sabres never looked back. A four-run third inning by Wesleyan cut into the lead, but Marian's lead proved too much to overcome. Brandon Winfield pitched a solid five innings in relief to earn his first win of the season.

Vassar held off a determined Medaille squad, 6-3 as they continue their Spring Break quest at the Chain of Lakes Field Complex. Jonathon Hong got his first collegiate start and win, pitching seven innings with two strikeouts. Dave Robbins came in as the ninth inning closer, sitting Medaille's final two batters with runners on second and first.

Castleton State broke open a close game with a five-run fourth inning and took a 9-3 victory over the Apprentice School at War Memorial Stadium. The Spartans avenged a 10-6 loss to the Apprentice on Thursday. In their second game of the day, Castleton State fell to Tufts 13-4.

Jordan Lozzi threw seven shutout innings and Cory Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as  Wesley blanked Frostburg State, 6-0, in the CAC opener for both teams. A senior from Forest Hill, Md., Lozzi allowed just three hits and struck out three to record his third victory of the year in as many starts. Andrew Cooper relieved him to start the eighth, and the junior allowed just two hits over the final two frames to seal the victory for Wesley. Both Smith and Conner Gobright collected three hits apiece while Trevor Mears recorded a multi-hit game in his CAC debut.

Mark Westdyk set the tone with a first-inning two-out grand slam and the DeSales Bulldogs opened their Freedom Conference schedule with a 9-6 win over Misericordia at Butz Field. 

Mississippi College tallied a season-high 14 hits and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over LeTourneau at Frierson Field. That would be all the run support Mack Murray would need as he held the YellowJackets to just two earned runs over 8.1 innings pitched. The Live Oak, Fla. native scattered 10 hits and struck out four.

Case Western Reserve limited Washington (Mo.) to five hits in the final six innings as the Spartans won 6-2 to tie the Bears atop the UAA standings with one game remaining for each team. The Spartans face Emory University at 11 a.m. Saturday in their final game, while the Bears take on the University of Rochester at 10 a.m. Sunday to close the tournament. Washington U. would clinch the outright UAA title with a win over Rochester and a Case loss to Emory. The Bears and Spartans would finish as co-UAA champions if both win or both lose their final games.
