Christopher Newport's Billy Steel reached base in all five plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with a walk and a pair of doubles, as the Captains cruised to a 9-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday. The 3-4-5 batters in the Captains' lineup combined for eight hits, including four extra-base knocks, while driving in six runs.

Emory started early with a four-run first inning, and kept adding on runs throughout the game, as the Eagles went on to defeat Oglethorpe 13-4 at Chappell Park.

Washington (Mo.) recorded 16 hits, including five extra-base hits, but the Bears were unable to rally after Fontbonne took the lead in the fifth inning as the Griffins earned a 12-10 win over Washington at GCS Ballpark.

Maryville (Tenn.) advanced to 5-1 on the season with a 7-6 win over Emory & Henry College on MC's Scotland Yard. Maryville fell behind 5-4 but took the lead for good in the home half of the eighth with back-to-back RBIs by Landon Talley and Zack Blonder.

The Transylvania Pioneers trumped in-state rival Centre, rallying in the eighth inning to win, 7-4. Junior Hunter Voshell capped off the Pioneers offensive rally in the eighth with an RBI single scoring pinch runner Aaron Johnson.

Lynchburg got a key fifth-inning rally and six scoreless innings by junior Brandon Miller out of the bullpen to down Greensboro, 6-4, in non-conference action. Colton Steber was solid early for the Hornets in his first collegiate start. The freshman allowed a hit in each of the first two innings while striking out three.

Three double plays and a 12-hit offensive attack supported six LeTourneau pitchers in an 8-3 win over Castleton at Conrad-Vernon Field. The YellowJackets had four players – Jordan Argabright, Ryan Bertram, Quinn Brankin and Dillon Yates each had two hits – to contribute to the 12-hit effort. Argabright also had two RBI along with five of his teammates with a RBI each.

Behind an offensive performance that included 21 hits, the Sewanee baseball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 16-8 win over Johnson, in Knoxville, Tenn. Catcher Nate Barnett, who finished 4-for-4 with three RBI, led the Tigers at the plate. Fellow infielder Grant Goodsonalso swung the bat well with four hits while Zack Suttonadded three RBI.

Capital won its second consecutive one-run game in its final at-bat, defeating Hanover 6-5 on the fourth day of the team's spring break trip at Chain O' Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla. Sophomore right-hander Jeff Small tossed three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his first career win for the Crursaders, and senior third baseman Ryan Pearson delivered the go-ahead two-out double in the ninth to score senior left fielder Taylor Branisel from first.

Franklin scored a season-high 11 runs in earning an 11-10 victory over Concordia-Moorhead at the RussMatt Classic in Auburndale, Florida. The Grizzlies concluded the season-opening Florida trip with a 3-2 record.

Shenandoah recorded its second shutout victory in three games this season with a 16-0 non-league win over Mount Aloysius. Five Hornet pitchers combined on the eight-hit shutout.

Washington and Lee scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to post a 4-2 victory over Southern Virginia Smith Field. Southern Virginia took an early 2-0 lead but could not keep the Generals off the bases in their fifth loss to open the season.
