Shenandoah hands Salisbury pay back

The Piedmont baseball team split a road conference doubleheader at Brevard losing the first 4-2 before a 9-2 win in the second contest. It was a pair of seven inning contests Monday moving the Lions' record to 18-11 and 4-2 in USA South play.

No. 15 Shenandoah University returned the favor Monday afternoon in downing No. 3 Salisbury, 12-1, in non-league action
. Shenandoah (20-6) hit four home runs and Calvin Pastel tossed a complete game three-hitter to give SU the split of its two-game set versus Salisbury (14-3). Keegan Woolford, the Hornets all-time home runs leader, hit his seventh and eighth home runs of the season with a solo shot in the fifth and a three-run blast in the sixth. The 11-hit, 12-run attack, which was finished off with Woolford sacrifice fly to left in the eighth, was more than enough for Pastel (3-1). Pastel threw 69 strikes in his 108-pitch complete game performance, struck out two and walked two while facing the minimum in the first, second, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth. The sophomore retired the final 10 hitters in order.

The first game didn't go well for Geneva College at Saint Vincent on Monday afternoon, losing 10-1, but the Golden Tornadoes bounced back for a 4-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader. Geneva's record now stands at 8-15 overall, 5-13 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Saint Vincent is 13-10 overall, 12-6 in the PAC. In game one, senior Dylan O'Rourke took the mound and put together a solid outing, but he didn't get any support from the Geneva offense, who were stymied by Saint Vincent starting pitcher Tom Bash. Joshua Kearns took the mound in game two for the Tornados and held the Bearcats early on. With support by the Geneva offense, Kearns made those runs stand up, finishing the complete-game effort in seven innings to move his record to 4-0 on the season. He gave up just four hits and two runs, while walking three and striking out three.

La Roche University (10-0, 10-0) kept their perfect record in-tact with a conference sweep over Pitt Greensburg (2-16, 1-7) at home. LRU shutout the Bobcats in game one 7-0 and won game two 11-3. The Redhawks have outscored their opponents this season 98-17. Senior pitcher Jake Seymour got his second shutout of the season in game one. Seymour pitched his second straight complete game and improved to 3-0 on the season. In 7.0 innings pitched, Seymour struckout five, walked one and gave up no earned runs. Seymour is one of only two pitchers in NCAA D-III who has pitched at least 15.0 innings without giving up an earned run. Mike Nuzzo got his second win of the season in game two. In 5.0 innings, Nuzzo struckout six batters, had no walks and gave up just one earned run. Nuzzo ranks second in the AMCC, behind teammate Jake Seymour, with a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched. Michael Rapneth, Dante DeLillo, Shane Murphy and Mason Brooks all pitched an inning.

UMaine-Farmington took the final two games from Thomas College on Monday afternoon with a 6-5 win in game one and a 17-6 win in game two to close out the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) series. In the opener, Hunter Labossiere went 2-4 at the plate with three RBI's and one run with a home run while Jordi Valls picked up the win on the mound and went 1-2 with one RBI at the plate. In the nightcap, Riley Bartell went 3-4 at the plate for the Beavers with five RBIs and two runs with Ryan Simard going 1-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Riley Bartell started on the mound for the Beavers, going five innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs. Brice Springer went two innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs.

SUNY Brockport won its 10th straight contest in convincing fashion as the Golden Eagles rolled to a 23-4 victory at home against Cazenovia on Monday afternoon. Brockport scored 16 runs over the course of the first three innings on its way to a dominant 19 run victory. Brockport's 23 runs came on 23 hits as 13 different players registered at least one hit for the streaking Golden Eagles. James Houlahan went 4-for-5 at the dish with three runs scored and two RBI's. His two-run homer in the bottom of the first gave Brockport an 8-0 lead. Senior Skylar Orvhall went 1-for-2 with four RBI's and one run scored as his second inning grand slam gave Brockport a 12-0 lead. Sam Law registered his first collegiate hit in the contest, but he did not stop there and finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI's and one run scored. Ryan Voight was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's, while Nick Debrino went 2-for-3 with two RBI's as well.

Castleton University earned its first sweep of the
season, defeating Western Connecticut State Monday
at Westside Field. The Spartans won 10-4 and 7-3.

Penn State Behrend split a non-conference doubleheader with Pitt-Bradford on Monday afternoon. The Lions won the opener 6-3 and fell 9-8 decision in the nightcap. The Lions scored four runs on four hits in the fourth to erase a one-run deficit and collect the non-conference win in the opener. The Panthers used five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good and capture game two. The sea-saw battle went in Pitt-Bradford's favor thanks to N. Hall's RBI single up the middle to score Fragela for the eventual game-winning run in the top of the sixth.

Today's doubleheader set up a matchup of unbeatens, when Mount Aloysius will take on La Roche. The Mounties swept Hilbert, 11-0 and 13-7, on Monday, winning their eighth straight game and improving to 8-0, in AMCC play. Their win streak includes six wins that came on the road, including Monday. Starter, Dylan Coyle, continued his strong start by adding more consecutive scoreless innings, on his way to a shutout. In game two, Nick Lagnese earned his second win of the season, in Game 2, going 5.2 innings out of the bullpen. The appearance was his longest of the season. Troy Emert led the Mounties with four RBIs on the day, with three of them coming in the back half of the doubleheader.

St. John Fisher College stayed unbeaten in Empire 8 play on Monday after taking both ends of a conference doubleheader against the Houghton College Highlanders. With the wins, 10-2 and 15-2, Fisher, which has now won its last five games in a row, improved to 17-4 and 8-0 in Empire 8 play while the Highlanders fell to 10-9 on the year and 2-6 against conference opponents. The Cardinals banged three home runs in the opener and RJ Kuruts earned his sixth win of the season on the mound as Fisher overwhelmed the Highlanders in the top of the first after Luke Duffy mashed a three-run home run before Houghton could retire the side. After falling behind by a run leading into the second inning, Fisher took the lead for good in the top half of the frame with five runs on four hits including a two-run single by Graham.
