Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its inaugural season of recognizing the top performance at each of thirteen positions from the previous week. This is the second Team of the Week of the 2012 season.

Games of March 5-11, 2012

C  Bruce Maxwell, Jr., Birmingham Southern

Maxwell, the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week, helped BSC win all four of its games this week, all on the road. He hit .600 (6-of-10) for the week with a total of seven runs, three RBI, 13 total bases, and eight walks. Maxwell also posted a 1.300 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base percentage.

1B  Andrew Hacker, Jr., Bridgewater (Va.)

Hacker, the ODAC Player of the Week after helping lead the Eagles to a 5-1 record on the week. He had five multiple hit games in a row before going 0-3 in his final game of the week. Hacker ended the week batting .565 with seven RBIs.

2B  Nate Rasmussen, Sr., Pacific (Ore.)

Nate Rasmussen returned from an injury with a .500 batting average, .917 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage week. He hit in the game-winning run in the Boxers' 3-0 shutout on Sunday and helped lift Pacific to their second series victory over the Bruins in as many years.

SS  Marc Magliaro, Sr., Rowan

Magliaro led Rowan to a 3-0 recod last week as the Profs stayed undefeated on the 2012 season. He batted .733 with six runs scored, 2 RBI and a .867 slugging percentage. Magliaro did not commit an error in 18 chances.

3B  Anthony Even, Sr., Concordia, (Ill.)

Even, Concordia's (Ill.) leading hitter on 7-1 trip to Arizona, had five multi-hit games in seven played last week. Even batted .433, with ten runs scored. On Tuesday March 6, he doubled and scored winning run in bottom of ninth to beat St. Mary's (Minn.)

OF  David Ricker, Sr., Southern Maine

Ricker, batted .556 with a double and triple as he helped the Huskies sweep a two-game series at Farmingdale State. He had four hits and three RBI in an 8-4 come-from behind win on Saturday and had the game winning hit in the eighth inning of another come-from-behind win, 7-6, on Sunday.

OF  Trey Smith, Jr., Huntingdon

Smith led the Hawks to a 4-0 week, batting .635, with eight runs scored and nine RBIs. Smith had a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the ninth to beat Oglethorpe on Tuesday.

OF  Alex Wong, Jr., Wentworth

Wong continued his hot start to the season by batting .542 with an OBP of .600 and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Wong scored eight times and drove in nine. He had the game-winning RBI in a come from behind, 6-5 win over Colby-Sawyer.

DH  Dakota Dill, Jr., Sul Ross State

Dill went 6-for-10 with a home run, triple, two doubles and five RBIs to fuel the Lobos to a West Division three-game series win over Hardin-Simmons. Dill also scored six runs, walked twice and did not strike out. His homer was a grand slam in the opener.

SP  Blaine O'Brien, Sr., Keystone

O'Brien tossed the first no-hitter for Keystone since the 2005 season. He walked three and struckout 12 in a 2-0 win over Penn St.-Behrend.

SP  Tanner Oakes, Fr., Augsburg

Making his first collegiate start, Oakes threw a seven-inning no-hitter, striking out seven, in Augsburg's 2-0 win over Mayville State (N.D.). Oakes allowed just five batters, four on hit-by-pitches and one on an error , while not walking a batter in his first win of his career.

SP  Doug Politz, Jr., Frostburg State

Politz threw a two-hit shutout against No. 9 Salisbury. Politz had eight strikeouts and zero walks in picking up his second victory of the season.

RP  Ryan Peterson, Sr., Rowan

In three appearances, Peterson earned a win over Johns Hopkins and two saves in wins over LaGrange. Peterson pitched 4.2 innings with one walk and one strikeout. He did not allow a hit or run.
