Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its inaugural season of recognizing the top performance at each of thirteen positions from the previous week. This is the sixth Team of the Week of the 2012 season.

Games of April 2-8, 2012

C  Kyle Moody, Sr., St. Scholastica

Moody batted .750 (9-for-12) in a week where he had eight RBIs. He slugged five doubles with a 1.167 slugging percentage. Moody was also behind the plate catching Mickie Keuning's no-hitter on Friday against Minnesota Morris.

1B  Tim Wiand, Sr., Westminster (Pa.)

Wiand led Westminster by batting .625 (10-16) for the week. Wiand had five doubles and two home runs Along with five runs scored, Wiand drove in 11 RBI.

2B  Brandon Winkler, Sr., Rowan

Winkler started the week slowly but ended 7-for-11 as he batted .500 (7-for-14). Winkler knocked in two  and scored seven times. Winkler finished the week with 18 chances without an error.

SS  Tim Locastro, So., Ithaca

Locsastro led Bombers with 10 hits last week and posted .696 on-base percentage, by walking three times and being hit by three pitches in as Ithaca went 4-0, stayed unbeaten at home this spring. Locastro, who hit .250 as a freshman, has doubled his batting average and extra-base hit total in his second year.

3B  Chris Kucher, Jr., Babson

Kucher, the NEWMAC Player of the Week, extending his hitting streak to 12 games and lead the Beavers to a 5-1 mark. For the week, Kucher hit .611 with 11 hits, a double, a homer, eight runs, four RBIs, an .833 slugging percentage and a .708 OBP in six games.

OF  Chase Brown, Sr., Texas-Dallas

Brown went 7-for-10 from the plate, reaching base in his first 9 plate appearances as he sparked the Comets to a  weekend home sweep of Mississippi College. He boasted a .900 slugging percentage and a .786 on-base percentage over the series as the Comets locked up a ASC Tournament spot and the right to host a first-round tournament series.

OF  Jacob Ludvik, Sr., La Verne

Ludvik was instrumental in La Verne's three-game weekend sweep of Cal Lutheran in a showdown of the top two teams in the SCIAC. Ludvik hit .643 (9-for-14) in the three games with seven runs scored. He knocked in three runs.

OF  Andrew Rivera, Jr., New Jersey City

Rivera, the NJAC Player of the Week, had 11 RBIs in five games on the week. He hit safely in every game and had multiple hits in four outings. Rivera was the backbone of the Gothic Knights' offense in a pair of wins, batting 11-for-19 with five runs, a double, triple and three stolen bases.

DH  Adam Derner, Sr., William Paterson

Derner led the Pioneers to a 4-0 week as he batted .467 with nine RBIs. Against Drew, he hit two of his three home runs in the week.  Derner walked five times and end the week with a .600 on-base percentage.

SP  Jake Nicholson, Sr., Rockford

Senior pitcher Jake Nicholson was nearly unhittable on Saturday on the road at Concordia Wisconsin. Nicholson threw a 1-hitter and lost his bid at a no hitter with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a single into center. Nicholson also struck out nine hitters on his way to his third straight complete game victory.

SP  Jeff Spillane, Jr., Texas Lutheran

Spillane tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout against Howard Payne as part of Texas Lutheran's three-game sweep of Howard Payne.  Spillane was named the ASC West Co-Pitcher of the Week.

SP  Rick Kazigian, Sr., Widener

Kazigian threw a no-hitter on Saturday in Widener's 4-0 victory over Arcadia. He walked the first batter and then retired 21 straight hitter. Kazigian also struck out six and became Widener's first pitcher this season to toss a shutout.

RP  Aaron Schwartz, Sr., Johns Hopkins

Schwartz pitched in two of four Johns Hopkins games last week. Against McDaniel Schwartz pitched the final two innings, earning the win. In a game against Swarthmore, he pitched a scoreless inning for his fifth save of the year. He allowed no hits over three innings with 4 strikeouts and one walk.
