Roanoke gets comeback, St. Joe's stays undefeated

Case Western Reserve grabbed a share of the 2013 UAA Championship following a Washington (Mo.) loss to Rochester in the final game of the Championship. Both teams finished with identical 5-3 Association records.

Roanoke needed the luck of the Irish as they posted three runs in the ninth inning, all with two outs, to defeat Earlham, 6-5.   In the bottom of the ninth inning Mark Manthe started the Roanoke rally, hiting an RBI single that scored Brian Kluge. After a pitching change for Earlham, Clark Crutchfield's two RBI double plated Danny Creel and Gavin Pellitter, giving Roanoke the 6-5 victory.

Helped by a complete game shutout by freshman Rosario DiLorenzo in game two, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) took both ends of a doubleheader defeating the Mount Saint Vincent, 11-4, in game one and 2-0 in the nightcap. The Bears (8-0) improve on their school-record start and have now won 12 games in a row dating back to last season. The Dolphins remain winless to begin the season.

Buena Vista returned to action for the first time since March 4 and split a non-conference road doubleheader at Nebraska Wesleyan. The Beavers took the opener, 1-0, before the Prairie Wolves edged BVU, 7-5, in the finale.

James Powers and Alex Weingarten combined to limit Southern Maine to just four hits as the Farmingdale State Rams handed the Huskies their first loss of the season, 5-1, in non-conference action at the FS Baseball Stadium. Powers allowed the Huskies' lone run in the first inning and then shut down the Huskies' offense allowing only two singles after the opening inning. Weingarten came on in the sixth after Forrest Chadwick ended Powers' day with a leadoff single. Weingarten got out of the inning with a strikeout and went on to earn his first save.

Moravian split a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Catholic with the Greyhounds winning the first game, 5-3, and Talbot Field, and the Cardinals winning the second contest, 5-4. In game one, Moravian freshman Anthony Zaloga would get Catholic in order for the fifth time in eight innings to seal the win. The offensives took over in game two as Catholic had an 11-5 advantage in hits in with Nick Clary going three-for-four for the Cardinals.

Amherst pounded its way to a 17-4 win in the opener and Dylan Driscoll tossed an efficient complete game in a 9-2 nightcap triumph as the Lord Jeffs swept Westfield State on their second day of competition at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Wabash needed 13 innings to decide the outcome of their final game against Dominican. Trey Fankhouser scored the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the thirteenth inning for the Wabash 6-5 victory. Fankhauser also registered the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth after he replaced an injured Montana Timmons earlier in the game.

Andrew Mulvey went the distance in game one, allowing just two runs in 7.0 innings to earn CCNY first victory of the season, a 11-2 win over Maritime. Mulvey allowed just five hits to pick up his first win of the season. CCNY  looked to sweep the doubleheader, however, the Privateers rallied back in the final frame and defeated the Beavers, 4-3, on a two-run single as CCNY finished the weekend 1-2.

Berry used a seven-run second inning to propel itself to a series-clinching win, 12-7, against SAA opponent Millsaps. The Vikings took two of the three games in the weekend series. The Vikings were led on offense by Stephen Gaylor and Alex McGill. Gaylor had three runs, two hits and two RBIs, and McGill had two doubles and runs scored. For the Majors, Keith Shumaker picked up three runs and two hits, including a solo home run in third.

After recording his first career base hit, a game-winning two RBI single two weeks ago against Schreiner, Louisiana College utility infielder Daniel Bonadona did it again, delivering a walk-off single that scored senior outfielder Adam Broussard to give the Wildcats a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

With a 6-5 extra-inning victory in the opener of a CAC doubleheader with Frostburg State,  Wesley took the series with the Bobcats at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines dropped game two, 6-3 to Frostburg.

A pair of complete game performances by Kyle Treadway and Matt Delegato led Pacific to a pair of wins and a series sweep of Lewis & Clark in NWC action at the Huston Sports Complex.  Treadway returned to the mound to complete the second game that was suspended late Saturday due to rain. He proceeded to allow just two runs on five hits to lead the Boxers to a 7-2 victory. Delegato allowed just one run on eight hits in today's regularly scheduled game in his second complete game in a row to complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory.

Endicott opened their season with a pair of games at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational. The Gulls defeated McDaniel 8-5 and then rolled to an 18-0 win over UMass Dartmouth.

Connor Harris polished off a four-hit shutout of a suspended game and Danny Clifford slugged a tie-breaking three-run home run in the series finale as the George Fox  Bruins completed a NWC sweep of the Willamette Bearcats 6-0 and 8-4 at Morse Field.

The first inning and the last inning told the tale of Sunday's non-conference game between visiting Ithaca and host Chapman. Ithaca built an early lead thanks to a five-run first and then held off a Chapman rally in the ninth to win 9-7 at Hart Park. After winning nine straight meetings against the Bombers from 2004-11, Chapman has now dropped three in a row to Ithaca in their annual March matchups.

Nichols split a non-conference regional doubleheader with Southern Vermont as the Bison took game one 3-2 and the Mountaineers emerged with a 7-4 victory in 10 innings at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Nichols freshman Brady Boisvert collected his first collegiate victory as he allowed two runs on six hits in six and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Senior Cody Jankins picked up the save as he completed the final third of an inning for the Bison.

Penn State Behrend swept Muskingum 6-5 and 8-0 in a non-conference doubleheader. In the opener, Evan Bukowski went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI, while James Verona was 2-for-3 for the Lions. Ryan Jacobs produced the win on the mound in four innings of work and striking out five, and Chad Zurat earned the save. In the nightcap, Dante DeSantis pitched six innings, allowed just six hits and struck out five for his second win on the hill. Bittner brought out the bat in the second game, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and his first long ball of the season.

Hamilton’s Lukas Bridenbeck racked up three hits, drove in four runs and scored three times, and the Continentals swept Framingham State in a non-conference doubleheader played in Winter Haven, Fla. Hamilton (2-0 overall) won 11-3 in the first game and completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.
